'Battlefield a potential Modern Warfare killer'

Analyst hails the potential of EA's "mega franchises"
Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey has been telling investors good things about the 'new' EA.

Encouraged by the publisher's current franchise portfolio, Hickey said EA has a number of "mega franchises" on its hands and potentially a "Modern Warfare killer" in the form of Battlefield.

"The company has been plagued over the last several years by franchise fatigue and new IP market fragility; examples include: Madden, NFS, Mirrors Edge, Army of Two, Spore, etc., which we believe they have stabilised and / or eliminated from their forward game slate," he wrote in an investor note.

"In addition, we're encouraged by the strong sales performance from emerging mega franchises like Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Battlefield (we believe a potential Modern Warfare killer).

"Finally," he added, "we remain optimistic for potential upside from games like Medal of Honor (a prior power franchise), Bulletstorm, Dead Space 2 and the unannounced new IP (potential fiscal '12 release) from the newly formed Respawn Entertainment studio through EA Partners."

You have to agree with the man to a point - EA's got a shedload of tasty titles on the market and in the works.

erm.... only because developers who aren't EA themselves make the games.

Not gonna stop Craptivision from continually trying to milk Call of Duty and Guitar hero however

Activision need to learn a few things from how EA have changed. It seems all they care about is Money, whereas EA have focused on quality games and new IP's.

Have to agree, Battlefield BC2 has me more plugged to online gameplay then MW2, which my 12 yr son has permanently nicked from my collection....well...its full of kids glitching and boosting....Battlefield is blastastic
skidpro on 15 Apr '10
You're quite right, BC2 is fudging awesome.
MPH on 15 Apr '10
Remember guys, EA bought out most of these developers... but still... they are doing a decent job. MW2 came across as one of the most arrogant games ever. Prancing around like Megan Fox thinking she could flutter her eyes at any silly dope to get what she wants.

I'd have to agree. I traded in MW2 for Bad Company 2 last week and I'm LOVING IT!! It takes no skill to play MW2 whereas BC2 really makes you think about strategy. Plus I love blasting a hole in the wall to expose some stupid camper. Or just level the whole building Laughing. I love how theres little to no camping, you camp and you die, end of story.

"Snowmobiles are for p*ssies" "Heartbeat sensors are for sissies" You gotta love that. Wink

It's been said before but Activision really did have it coming with their bullish attitude.

The COD bubble seems to have burst in epic style.

yep I traded in MW2 at HMV and got Ł22 for it so got BFBC2 and so glad I did. I have been playing online shooters from day one of Halo2 and I have to say BFBC2 is the best online shooter I have ever played. Anyone who is thinking about swapping COD for BFBC2 do it you will not regret it. And for everyone else watch out for me as I will be in a tank or a attack helicoptor or a quad bike or a speed boat or I may just be on a jet ski. Yes its that good Very Happy

BF has always been > COD

Look how good BC2 is, if they build on that then its gonna destroy COD
gils on 16 Apr '10
This aint no cat bottomd snow mobile ride!

Why is the fact that Battlefield is better than COD such a revelation.

Battlefield has always been more fun than any COD game... Right back to the begining of the COD franchise.

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat was ripped by COD MW in the 1st place!

BFBC was better,

BF1943 gave you a taste of what was to come,

BFBC2 delivered in every regard!

You let your 12 yo son play an 18 rated game? Wow mate, you are a piece of work! After all the press on this issue too.

She is probably right though...
