Crytek: Crysis 2 'looks best on PC'

Studio CEO confirms PC stands tall over console versions
Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli has confirmed that the PC version of Crysis 2 is graphically superior to both PS3 and Xbox 360 editions.

Yerli make the confession after CVG asked him why Crytek decided to show the Xbox 360 version of the game at its recent New York showcase.

"PC is the best looking version, yeah," he answers. "But if I had shown it on PC, it would have been like... okay, Crysis 2 is on console, but they're not showing the console version. So we wanted to go with console."

Crytek showed us the 360 version of the game - which we crowned the best-looking title ever to hit the system.

At the same event, we saw a just a glimpse of the PS3 version running alongside it - and the few minutes we witnessed looked identical to the 360 version.

However, Yerli himself would later admit that the PS3 version looks "slightly" better than the 360 version.

The studio has previously revealed that it overcame problems squeezing the game's massive CryEngine 3 onto console.

Well obviously it'll look better on PC, just like every other game on PC Laughing

LMAO, seriously this was a no brainer, and would hope that pc version was superior..

Gotta love Crytek: First, it's being developed for Xbox460 and runs best on that. Then they say that it actually runs best on PS3, but really it's best on PC. Which everyone knew from the start anyway.

Damn, my first sarcastic post on an internet forum... i've become one of those people.
Triffic on 15 Apr '10
lol really? no sh!t crytek
Miss_Wacy on 15 Apr '10
Wow, as far as revelations go that is a doohicky.

More news in.. the sky is blue....

That's an obvious statement it was always going to look better on the PC, the real issue for Crytek was making it look good on the consoles

Be interesting to see how the game shapes up in the future

I'm quite fed up with all Crytek's talk about the graphics now. Sounds like the prettiness is the only trick they've got up their sleeve, otherwise they'd be sounding off about how good the gameplay is too.

Might be one for me to miss, this.
altitude2k on 15 Apr '10
Well i dont think they would get any PC sales if it looked the same as the PS3/360 version on a 2K PC, so talk about stating the obvious.
lmimmfn on 15 Apr '10
^ If only there was a way of checking, some of the comments made here, well, wouldn't have been made.

All Crytek have ever done for any of their games is talk about the graphics, they are proud of how far they can push things, rather than being sinister marketing types.

They're games usualy turn out top notch, even if the original Crysis has some issues in parts they sorted them in Warhead which was far better.

Something to finally stretch my graphics card.
In fact, if this is anythingm like the first game it will suck all the life out of my latest graphics card.......
FinalBillybong on 15 Apr '10
i have a good system with a 5870 and still aint buying this game, as with the first you will get pretty poor framerates.

Shudder to think how it will run on consoles. 20-30fps?

The demo was pretty boring of the first game, valve games are much better.

If I get rought frame rates with my card then god help EVERYONE else. Only people with mega SLi and CrossfireX setups will have a chance. Still buying it though.
FinalBillybong on 15 Apr '10
lol your damn right it will be the best looking version, at least it bloody well better be haha. I just played through crysis again this week. Still a great game and still looks incredible. Hope the console version is "low" and pc gamers get medium, high, highest and finally ultra awesome high. Come on crytek, show us the gap in power. Feed me damn it!!
runadumb on 15 Apr '10
I dont care I'm still buying the PS3 version since my pc lost respect as a games machine since Crysis 1. Bet the pc version still sells the least amount of copies contrary to its "superiority". Its funny people say that though. For the Ł1500+ difference for a decent enough pc to run this it bloody well should look/play better I mean its common sense.
gogo65uk on 15 Apr '10
aww crytek just f**k off
bunneyo on 15 Apr '10
Hmm, no s*&% Crytek. If you've got the budget for a decent rig than of course any P.C game will look slightly better, but unless you're running them side by side you'd still be hard pressed to spot it.
sonic_uk on 15 Apr '10
it will look better on PC when it isn't crashing Laughing
alan666 on 15 Apr '10
Ishould be 10x better than on PS3- coz to experience it you'll be paying that much more.
hi0marc on 15 Apr '10
This just in from Crytek ''No joke Crysis looks the bestest on Wii!!''
jamie1 on 15 Apr '10
There seem to be an error in the article, it was Carl Jones how made the comment about performance not Cervat Yerli, and neither made this comment "PS3 version looks "slightly" better".
alucardx23 on 15 Apr '10
With everything in life, it's costs to be the best. If you want a gaming machine that is ahead of the crowd, you need to be prepared to spend the money. This is the nature of PC's. With that in mind, developers have more grunt to work with. Games should always run better on PC... Obviously that is not always the case. Look at Halo 1 and 2. They were pathetic on the pc. You needed a higher spec machine at the time to compete with the XBox version which was a much lower spec console. Lazy ports eh? It's always going to happen sadly.
kimoak on 15 Apr '10
really? wow I wasn't expecting that. or was I? ofc I was. wtf is this? ofc the PC version will look better. it ALWAYS does. also, this is Crytek. they love making PC games so it's only obvious. jeez.

Dammit I was going to say a few things like this but I guess you and a few other guys have beaten tht horse to death by now.

Seriously do they even have to mention that to the press?

Indeed.

*walks into thread*

*slips comically on the steady following stream of fan-spunk, crawling slowly like some kind of translucent lava*

On another note, I do like the fact that Crytek have taken into consideration the Gay SM fraternity with their hugely homoerotic protagonist.

Judging by the size of those pants, he's packing a respectable sausage.

All that processing power for a meaty crack and gimpy camel toe.
boskersrevenge on 16 Apr '10
This game is running out of things to look better on.

Platform graphical one-up-manship notwithstanding, is there any gameplay or something like that?
zombiesinmyhead on 16 Apr '10
More importantly, can we still kill people by throwing chickens at them?
daviddanut on 17 Apr '10
Ehm, thats.... really... something? Haven't we always known this? C'maan!!!
