The original Xbox Live servers were supposed to have died early this morning but Microsoft hasn't turned them off yet.
Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson, was running an official countdown on his site that had Microsoft pulling the plug at around 7am GMT.
However, that time has long gone and the servers are still running, with players squeezing in final games of Halo 2. Major Nelson's official Microsoft countdown has now been replaced with: Xbox Live on original Xbox ends: Today :(
So the servers will be shut off today if his latest update is to be believed but now that the official countdown has been and gone, no-one actually knows when it'll happen. Even Microsoft doesn't seem to know. Good news for those Halo 2 players who are squeezing in those last few games then...

Yeah GiantBomb gave up their live stream at 12:18, about 4 or 5 hours after it should have gone down I believe. It was meant to go off midnight there so those guys were pretty darn tired by then I guess.

Dude, this is how it works: CVG has to report these stories cos their main competitors do. People won't go to CVG, and they won't get the traffic to compete if their not reporting the same stuff. People will go elsewhere if they will think they're not getting all the news.
If you don't like it you can just use a different site for your news. Its likely you'll end up just getting the same stuff though and complaining. Some people are just never happy. I think CVG does a good job.
