Whilst this does look good, 99p every week would come to a lot of money. Or discounted stuff, so £35 a year...which is just that tiny bit cheaper than Xbox Live, where you get more for your money.
beta was pretty kool and its alot cheaper than opm and more up to date. will be buying 3 months package for £8.99 not bad since if i had the mag it would cost me £18 for 3 months
The beta was 1156mb download in total & took a while to instal but once you are in it its a well rounded show of sorts. Kind of like a post modern pick & mix version of gamesmaster with without Patrick Moore with Borg implants!
The voice of the presenter is a little patronising but I believe this is due to it being a voice over artist reading from a script rather than being a genuine gamer telling your their own opinions. & its a girl who "sounds hot" for all you boys out there & like a "cool new best friend" you dont know yet for the girls!
The reviews of the games are good & seem honest & its always better to see a video of a game rather than stills in a mag.
You have to watch adverts that are at the beginning of reviews etc but once they have been viewed once they can be skipped if they are repeated.
The most useful thing is that it gives a good overview of all things available on the PS3 including mini's which I have not bothered with so far as there is little coverage of them & demo's are rarely available.
Over all its a cheaper alternative to buying a magazine once a month & could offer some good dlc freebies which, at the end of the day, might be the only reason to buy it as you can get most of everything else it contains by going to CVG, IGN or Gamespot for free!
Tried the beta thingy last night, looked good. However, this kind of service will stand or fall depending on the content - what will it offer that you cannot get already for free elsewhere? Videos etc are good quality, but you can generally pick up decent footage on youtube / gametrailers etc. What it really needs is bonus DLC that's not already available on the PSN- but not sure if 3rd parties are going to be happy selling their stuff via firstplay, if it means that they'd end up making less money this way.
Will see what kind of stuff they offer before giving them my hard-earned 99p.
What a blatant waste of money. You can play demos for free, watch reviews online via the internet and buy games on the cheap via playstation store. Why would I want this? Pointless if you ask me. Also, I bet their reviews are really biased. I have both Xbox and Ps3, and I know how far some people are willing to stick their tongue in order to sell their product.
You all say you would never pay for that, but, monthly it costs roughly what an OPM mag costs. So think of it this way, four episodes of first play a month or one OPM magazine a month? Assumeing you buy at a least one of them.
