Shuhei Yoshida, head of SCE Worldwide Studios, has promised PS3 Move will deliver a range of experiences that will appeal to hardcore audiences.
Speaking to Edge, the exec said that the company's focus is split "50:50" between making Move appeal to a wider audience, and making traditional games work in a different way.
"The precision of the Move system allows game designers to create games as simulations and games with much more depth than other motion-based game experiences," he said.
"We are sure that hardcore gamers will appreciate and enjoy the challenge, with a much finer control over how they interact with the game and achieve greater success in those games.
"It was very interesting to hear comments by a certain journalist who tried Sports Champions' table tennis, who clearly enjoyed playing the game but complained about the lack of perceived one-to-one control at certain times," he added.
"During the GDC event we were showing the game's entry-level mode, which includes a lot of assists to ensure that everyone who plays the game for the first time can enjoy it. However, we plan to have in the final game a more simulation-based mode, which will allow expert users to really try out their skills. That promises to be a hardcore experience."
SCEE's head of developer services, Kish Hirani, also told Edge that the arrival of Move means he won't be playing RTS or FPS games on PC any longer. There's more through the link.
E3 is going to be a battleground this year and Move, Natal, 3DS (and surely a WiiHD) are going to be the soldiers on the frontline.
Not sure who is going to be a fatality and who is going to get a bravery medal but it will certainly make this years conference a lot more interesting.

This really is going to be one of the best E3s for years. So much each company has to show, and each one has a lot hanging on making a good impression.
Natal, Move, WiiHD and of course the 3DS.
The only two things more important in June are the World Cup and my birthday. Heh heh
Did i just read that right? Did that guy just refer to ping pong as hardcore?
I mean unless there's a mode in which the move elctrocutes your genitals every time you fail to score a point, i doubt hardcore will ever sum up bloody ping pong.
Give up Sony. there's nothing you can say that will make your wii sports clone seem like anything else. revel in it, show it to be the better beasty in its class of easy to play family friendly fun. Not that its wii sports for the hardcore.

I think a few pro table tennis players may want to smack you in the face with their paddle after that ignorant comment.
Are you really saying that a table tennis videogame can't be made into a hardcore experience?
well duh, he works for sony, what else is he going to say? he's not going to say that its a load of pap aimed at getting money out of ten year old girls and old women is he

I'd have to say, I found the Rockstar Table Tennis game a little more challenging than the version on Sports Resort. I'd say the WSR version is more fun, but RTT can be a tough game at certain points - certainly harder than something like Virtua Tennis.
I really cannot wait for E3. We've heard all this stuff about Move and natal, but seen hardly anything.
After my sheer dissapointment with the Wii (odd to think that 4 years ago I was a devout Nintendo fanboy), I'm on the fence with MS and Sonys motion controlled efforts, but keen to see what they come up with.
I think Move could be good. Its not about who does motion controls first, its about who does motion controls best, and as a development platform thats taken a lot more seriously by 3rd parties, i think Move could easily trump (in terms of critical acclaim, at least) the Wii.

Are you one of them mark? I find combatting ignorance with knowledge to be a better way of defeating it rather than violence. Just breads more ignorance. If someone could show me the hardcore thrills of table tennis i'd change my mind.
If someone hit me with a table tennis paddle i'd probably swing for them. and then i'd not only still be ignorant but also feel justified in my ignorance maybe colouring all hardcore table tennis enthusiasts as violent little buggers with no sense of humour.

It could be hardcore ,if it was Dead or Alive ping pong ,it could be described as softcore , then with a little DLC ,,Viola . Co incidently ,i remember glancing in a catalogue of adult featurettes a few years back ( i was forced at gunpoint) And whilst reading the synopsis on each movie (as in les, dogging, domination etc) came across one vid which featured "Tennis Racket", so if a tennis racket can officially be hardcore ,so can a ping pong bat. Actually i love ping pong, and wasnt there a 360 ping pong game which scored very highly in all mags and was deemed serious ,made by rockstar (GTA etc) so maybe it can be.
what a load of chav's in this thread. Hardcore does not mean the game has to have violence/swearing/sex.
I am a hardcore gamer. This means i live to play games and the games i play have more depth to them and are a challenge. A hardcore game is one that caters to a hardcore gamer. Rockstar's table tennis is hardcore, so if what he says is true them this will be a hardcore game.

Yeah like people that describe themselves as hardcore gamers. Isn't it about time you moved out of mother's basement or attic.

t**t.
It is the game industry who have seperated the public into casuals and hardcore, If i have to fall into a bracket, then I am hardcore, and my wife is casual. The PSmove could be huge for people like me, who want to play games with their other half, as well as play 'HARDCORE' games, without having to buy more than one console.
Wii table tennis = casual = lack of depth, lack of accuracy/skill Move table tennis = Hardcore = more depth/modes and increased accuracy
The fact you made a post just to insult someone shows you have alot of growing up to do, so I wont take too much offence, but I think it is you who needs to get a life
