Epic's new shooter revealed: Bulletstorm

US magazine unveils shooter due to be announced by EA
Gears Of War developer Epic has unveiled its new FPS, due to be announced by EA in the next two weeks.

US magazine Game Informer has put Bulletstorm on its cover this month, which you can see below.

CVG understands the title is a super-violent FPS, and has been developed by Polish studio People Can Fly, which Epic bought a controlling stake in back in 2007.

The story, written by Rick Remender, is set in the 26th century, and players take on the role of Grayson Hunt - part of Black Ops unit Dead Echo, bossed by General Serrano.

Hunt's mission is to assassinate a man responsible for thousands of deaths. When he refuses to kill him, Hunt in turn becomes the most wanted man in the galaxy. Silly beggar.

A decade later, Hunt is washed up - living on the outskirts of space with cyborg Ishi Sato. When Hunt sees the warship that his old boss General Serrano uses, Ulysses, he drunkenly decides to destroy it with his own vessel. We've all been there, right?

Following the collision, both ships go spiraling towards a planet below, which is described as a ruined Las Vegas-like playground.

This world is jam packed with flesh-eating creatures, mutants and many more evil foes. And that's where the action really begins.

People Can Fly revealed the game will offer online multiplayer, but not co-op.

GameInformer reports: 'As the name suggests, players will take on hideous mutants in a flurry of lead, all the while racking up combos that encourage variety over headshot after headshot.

'It's impressive stuff, and after reading our 10-page feature you'll have an idea why Epic Games bought a majority stake in People Can Fly after seeing it demoed for the first time.'

We revealed yesterday that Epic had two new projects to announce in the next fortnight: Bulletstorm and Gears Of War 3, which Cliff Bleszinski is set to unveil on the Jimmy Fallon Late Night show on US TV on Monday.

Bulletstorm is due for release in Q4 this year on 'console and PC'.

Looking good happy that it's coming to PC as well.

Was the story for this game written by a schoolboy? It sounds so immaturely conceived and pathetically over the top. It's probably no stretch of the imagination to assume it'll be full of overly macho characters. I know it's a different medium but it's not hard to imagine how s**te a movie this story would make. And to think people complained that MW2 had a poor story. Surely it's safe to assume gamers who have left school aren't interested in this.

Sounds interesting. That cover pic looks incredibly similar to Doom!

Agreed.

This is one of those titles that has its sales pitch work cut out for it if I'm to bite.

If the gameplay is solid gold then the story could be about a pilgrimage to find the last of the gay pterodactyls for all I care.

Gears story was s**te, Halo's story is a convulated mess, Bayonetta's is just damn off-the-wall but they all make up for it by having amazing gameplay mechanics. People are getting too obsessed with story in videogames when only a handful have actually managed it properly so far.

Now that is a funny story if I've ever heard one.

Thank you Rick Remender for that

Someone is taking the p**s I think lmao

This x 2.

I know games are primariyl about the gameplay, but just another FPS (regardless of graphics) just isn't exciting.

I doubt this will drive my interest form CCPs new shooter.

While I agree a story isn't necessarily important in an action game (or most games in general) as long as the gameplay is good, when they try to make the games like a film (like they try to all the time these days) I think the story should have more thought put into it
JuiKuen on 10 Apr '10
EA instead of MS as publisher for Epic, and we get PC version, no surprise here.
SynTerro on 10 Apr '10
I'm not sure how much more info I'll need before I start calling this game s**tstorm.

I for one will be watching anything coming out of People Can Fly, Painkiller was awesome and I have high hopes for this.

Still not quite getting the whole deal about a good story. Sure, it's a bonus if a games story is good, but why does it matter if the gameplay is solid to excellent? I rarely play online games, but the number of people who do is testament to people who don't need a story to enjoy a game, right?

That would explain why I tend to shun online-only games and much prefer single player games. Fair do - different people may gravitate to different games. This sounds pretty dire so far though and at present seems more like an Unreal Tournament clone to me. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong (in a positive way).

This x3. But then, what do you expect from a game backed by Epic? It's probably all in brown and grey too, and the main character likely has no neck.

A gun that shoots shuriken and lightening.

It could only be more awesome if it had t**s and was on fire! one of ZP's best lines.

You should take a look at the scans that are on most sites, you'll be surprised!
