Yamauchi talks 3D, PS Move for GT5

"If it's interesting, we'll support it," says Polyphony boss
Polyphony Digital is open to incorporating new tech such as PS Move and 3D into Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed.

Rumours are rife that the game offers support to both sets of tech - and Yamauchi has not taken the opportunity to say the big 'no'.

When CVG sister mag PSM3 asked Yamauchi if GT5 would incorporate 3D or motion control, he said:

"We're always attuned to new technologies. If there are display devices or peripherals that seem interesting, I'm sure we'll work to support them."

Yamauchi said earlier this year that GT5 was '90 per cent' complete.

His new comments come as part of a eight-page racing preview spectacular in May's PSM3, which also features F12010, Modnation racers, Blur, Split/Second and more.

PSM3 will hit stores next week. Subscribe to PSM3 and get it posted to your door.

they have got to be the slowest developers in the world!!! gran turismo 4 was released 5 years ago!! either release the damn game or don't. if GT5 doesn't get critical acclaim he has to be fired

It'll be perfect.

Worth the wait.
wildhook2 on 5 Apr '10
"If it's interesting, we'll support it,"
Why don't you just support the fans by giving them the damn game who cares about motion control and 3D we're talking about a bloody PS3 game here and you want to make it a Wii game, I really don't care about the game myself and really don't care much for the PS3 cos mine just sits there gathering dust in between my Wii and 360 but it p**ses me off to see a game being held back for so long and the fact they want to put motion control in it seems to go against the whole PS3 core gamers view on things.
I agree with invisiblekid91 this is a disgrace, I wonder if they have taken into consideration how much money they have missed out on over the 5 years it's taken, Fifa and Pro Evolution are proof that you can sell the same game every year and people will buy it, that's all they had to do and just tweak it each time, DLC sales would have been huge too.
rayzer69 on 5 Apr '10
i can see people are gagging for this game me being one of them, all i can say is itl be worth the wait, should get a date at E3
Miss_Wacy on 5 Apr '10
It's understandable how peeved people are getting over the wait for GT5. But I was thinking the other day that GT1 was awesome but GT2 was the game that GT1 should of been. Same with the third installment which was sorely lacking in many respects and then GT4 was the b******s. Maybe this generation they decided to not bother making one inferior product first. I fully expect this game will be amazing and once it's released everyone will quickly forget the delays... hopefully anyway.
chunkyboymania on 5 Apr '10
I'm hoping for day/night cycles for every course offered in GT5, hopefully weather effects will be added soon after the game goes on sale, I can't wait, well actually I can. I play FM3 to keep me occupied for the time being, but I miss cars that are detailed to reflect real life counterparts, FM3 no moving parts on cars such as the SLR, Murcielago, Veyron and Enzo to name a few...that just confuses me at times. I wonder if it will support transmission and engine swaps, realistically of course. Will probably plunk down the change for a new HD set, the super flat LED LCD's, mine is about 3 years old Full HD Aquos, thinking about GT5 5.1 audio blaring , oh yes.
SavageEvil on 5 Apr '10
yeah 3D & motion control, this is just a ploy for the GT5 - collectors super limited diamond edition of the game, that comes with a actual car.

nobody cares about 3D or motion control for it, yet another delay tactic.
alan666 on 5 Apr '10
there is no date at e3,

as its releasing june1st.
purple101 on 5 Apr '10
im sorry if you read that and got excited,

iment june 15th, another ten days..... delays delays eh>?? hehe

day of 3DE3. truth
purple101 on 5 Apr '10
ARRGGHH! Talking about incorporating new technology into a game that was supposedly near completion six months ago just means even MORE DELAYS.

Let's face it, after five years of development, they're not just going to 'bolt on' 3D or motion tech... it'll take them bloody ages to incorporate it. Months. Years. Decades. My children may never even get to play this game.
mkwuk on 5 Apr '10
FFS, this will mean nothing more than more delays!! Give us the fecking game already, the game will no doubt already have Sixaxis steering so what the hell could it gain from PS Move? 3D I can understand would look cool but the game has been delayed enough already.
Sonic_Freak on 5 Apr '10
I always find it hilarious when fanboys claim they have a PS3 and that it collects dust beside their much played Xbox 360 lol

From Gears 2 until now, Xbox has released Forza, Mass Effect 2 and Metro.

This was mixed with "bit titles" such as the add on Halo ODST (same mp maps from Halo 3? Thanks a bunch MS) and the DLC for GT4 and the online only LFD series.

In comparison PS3 has released Resistence 2, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 2, MAG, Heavy Rain, Yakuza 3, White Knight and God of War 3 not to mention you can import the US version of D Souls.

Seriously Xbox 360 fans, come back down to earth, MS are ripping you off and you're thankin them for it. Get a PS3 and stop pretentding you have one Smile

Enjoy!!

It will blow Microsoft's "definitive" driving game out of the water. Someone said Yamauchi ought to be fired because this game is taking so long to produce? Wrong. Dan Greenwalt should be fired for talking sh*t and failing.
Lloyd12 on 5 Apr '10
You're never going to get this game Laughing
horngreen on 5 Apr '10
starsail when will you learn? haha you fail with that list, did u know that your add on halo odst has outsold all that list combined bar uncharted 2 and killzone 2? most of those games struggled to sturggled to sell 500k
dorian2011 on 6 Apr '10
Wow, what a bunch of whiny bar stewards.

Some of you should look for news & post elsewhere just to broaden your macho-bodied, little head's - tiny minds.

Post all the guff you like but it won't make any difference except to CVG's ad revenue, unless you block CVG's ads that is... Wink
LordVonPS3 on 6 Apr '10
UM since you want to bring sales into it, God of War collection sold more than Halo ODST.

Anyway ODST was a cheap add on, 4 hour campaign with mp maps already available to Halo 3 players at FULL price ... keep paying dividends to MS, Im afraid if you support titles such as ODST then I cant help.

Im not being biased here, Im getting another Xbox 360 when Halo Reach comes out but to defend Halo ODST with sales rather than quality (which I can do with the PS3 games listed) as an argument shows me how deep Xbot fanboyism delves. MS are laughing at you.

Ahhh, poor we Dorian

3D on GT5 could be awesome. MOVE controls will be gash surely?

@starsail

why do you have to roll out the lists in this thread (or any thread for that matter)?

i own a few on your list...

Resistance 2 - a below average shooter

Little Big Planet - great idea, poor controls and WAY too floaty to feel right. massive let down for me

Killzone 2 - solid but average shooter, nowhere near as good as you Sony fanboys claim it is

Uncharted 2 - one of my favourite games this gen, simply fantastic in every way.

Heavy Rain - playing it right now and massively disappointed. utterly stupid controls ruin it for me and remove you entirely from the action as you have to concentrate on the icons popping up and not the action behind it.

God of War 3 - played the demo and enjoyed it. just the same as the previous versions but on steroids. The EDGE review was spot on actually.

You missed wipeout from your list which is worthy of mention.

I can't comment on the others as i've not played them.

don't go rolling out lists bigging up Sony with some decidedly average games on it. it makes you look like an idiot.
shellster2 on 6 Apr '10
so what the f**k is taking them so long?
i think its quite embarrassing and pathetic that some developers have released 3,4, some times 5! games in the time they have released none!
come on PD for f**ks sake i know your perfectionists but we all know what happens to them.
look at duke nukem forever.
delaying your game, and delaying it, and delaying it, and delaying it can only result into one thing.
people loosing interest, the tech gets out dated and ends up flopping in the end.
for the love of GOD! just release the f**king thing, than make some changes you want in a freaking patch.
god at this rate by the time GT5 comes out my great grand kids will have great grand kids!

Im criticised for making lists by your wonderful self yet its fine for others to make silly claims like "my PS3 collects dust" when its clear they dont own one. How can I make the claim that the PS3 is the best gaming kit there is without makin the odd list, I dont BS when defending PS3. Decidedly average games though? Who made your opinion the overall conclusion?

Resistance 2 metacritic score based on 79 reviews 87%
Little Big Planet metacritic score based on 85 reviews 95%
Killzone 2 metacritic score based on 95 reviews 91%
Uncharted 2 metacritic score based on 105 reviews 96%
Heavey Rain metacritic score based on 104 reviews 87%
God of War 3 metacritic score based on 94 reviews 93%

Wipeout HD was download only and not released in the same way as the others but it is a great game indeed, much better than antything on Xbox 360.

firstly can i just say thank you for calling me wonderful, i really don't hear that often enough.

i can't believe you trotted off to get those metacritic scores. i have no interest in those scores. guess what a reviewer does?....that's right they give you their personal views and attach a score to it. with regard to my views on the games i mentioned to you, that's right they're my personal views and if i didn't like them or thought they weren't the best thing since sliced bread i told you why.

i'm not asking you to agree with me because quite frankly you have some major sony love going on and wouldn't dream of being objective. but that's ok, it's all about personal opinions but there's a limits you know.

i also own a 360 but thought Halo 3 was crap, you know, the flagship title. see what i did there?
shellster2 on 6 Apr '10
Dido lol

Halo hasnt been great since Halo Combat Evolved.

I loved all those games listed and I still think Killzone 2 is the best of the console shooters with Resist 2 being more arcadey.

I'd like to get Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake and Halo Reach (hopefully living up to the promise which made the first so great) on Xbox, see Im totally impartial. I think the PS3 gets a hell of a bashing despite a superior release schedule between the gulf of Gears 2 and Mass Effect 2.

To be honest, I think the Gears series is too clunky and despite some fantastic set peices, isnt all that good. Shush though, don't tell anybody I said that.
starsail on 6 Apr '10
Very Happy GT5 is going to be the best racing game to date....even for years to come...i read many people complaining about delays but big-up the 360. QUESTION Question can anyone...and i mean ANYONE name one game on the 360 that looks and plays better that let's say UNCHARTED 2...RATCHET & CLANK: A CRACK IN TIME...or even...GOD OF WAR 3..now remember and i'm not making any list here but sony still have title's that's going to really make 360 fanboys do a 360...like KINGDOM HEARTS 3...UNCHARTED 3...FF13 VERSES...JUST TO NAME A VERY FEW...and let's not forget about 8 DAYS..where is that game .....who knows?????????

but really 360fanboys..wake up. Cool

(warriorpain) greenberg what do you think about the gt5 delays...and how that can effect microsoft in the marketing there and planing for upcoming titles like allen wake..crackdown 2..halo-reach..and other title's coming this year..(greenberg) well first i would love to thank you for your greatness mr. warriorpain..now gt5 delays could only mean one thing for microsoft which is unpredictable marketing from sony....now gt5 is going to blow everything 360 has out the water for years to come...(warriorpain)..gosh.. Razz did you read my post...(greenberg) no it's the truth..(warriorpain)...well i know that but..(greenberg) IT'S THE TRUTH Mad (warriorpain) ok..(greenberg) the title's we have here a microsoft internal studio's are all pure cow dun...(warriorpain)..excuse me..(greenberg)..PURE s**t..(warriorpain) ok...(greenberg) and because of these s**tty ass games we have to rely on third party devs to make us look good....DAME I WISH I WAS WORKING OR SONY Mad ...so now these game's gotta do it for us or were cooked...to be continue.

they have got to be the slowest developers in the world!!! gran turismo 4 was released 5 years ago!!

I understand why you think 5 years is a long time, but I dont think you understand why it's taking 5 years.

First the game will ship with about a 1000 fully modelled cars, with an insane level of detail in each,I think the budget per car is up to 500k polygons per model.
Each car can take 6 months to create.Thats a crazy time sink there.
Tracks can also take up to a year each.

The main factor is they've created the engine from scratch, this hasn't happened since GT1,and guess how long that took? 5 years Smile

The new engine is designed for a easier transition onto the PS4 (as proven when 4 PS3's ran GT5p at quad hd res)because even by today's standard,PS3's CPU has a high core count,it would be stupid for the team to create the engine without considering that PS4 will likely increase that number, and when it happens the engine will be ready for it,and a full rebuild for PS4 won't be necessary. The groundwork now will pay off in the future.

Once 5 is out there is nothing stopping 6 launching within 18 months, that would put 6 on target with previous sequels in terms of follow-up time.

I would add that even now we know little of what kind of features 5 will have, apart from headtracking and HD uploads for Youtube nothings been said,si i'm sure there will be a few things that could be genre defining.

either release the damn game or don't. if GT5 doesn't get critical acclaim he has to be fired

He won't get fired, based on his $60m development estimate in december 09,the fact prologue has sold enough to cover that cost means GT5 is almost free money for Sony. They stand to make millions if sells even 75% of what GT normally does.

Also in those 5 years they've realised Tourist Trophy,GTHD,GT5p and will likely release 5 this year.
