Modern Warfare 2 DLC 'shatters XBL records'

One million gamers download content on day one; 2.5 million during first week
The Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus map pack has got off to a storming start, according to Microsoft.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package shattered Xbox LIVE records as more than one million gamers worldwide downloaded the new map pack from Activision and Infinity Ward in the first 24 hours alone, surpassing the 2.5 million mark within the first week," said the platform holder.

The DLC includes five multiplayer maps - Crash, Overgrown, Complex, Compact and Storm, three of which are completely original. Its success comes despite some gamers' reservations about its relatively high price point (£10.20 / $15) and its re-use of two maps from 2007's Modern Warfare.

We recently grilled popular Infinity Ward community boss Robert Bowling to get the lowdown on the Stimulus map pack and find out just why it's worth the cash..

The content is a timed exclusive on Microsoft's console, but is expected to hit PS3 and PC in the not distant future.

Blast. I was really hoping this would flop big time and good ol' Activision would be forced to drop their ridiculously over inflated, unrealistic prices. Guess theres a lot of sheep out there with wallets as thick as their brains.

Problem is they've made it bad for all of us now as other devs will no doubt see whats going on and try something similar in the future, and I have no-doubt Acti will charge even more for future dlc. 25 quid a map anyone? I'm sure the Mw2 brigade will lap it up.
sonic_uk on 7 Apr '10
I love pretty much all the cod games but the dlc is stupid, I was hoping it would flop to but I guess if people enjoy the mp, there guna get the extra maps. Even at a crazy price
4everutd on 7 Apr '10
yea baby! i mean who doesn't love free night vision goggles for your avatar, 7 extra days on live, 3 new crap maps, and 2 old maps!?

i hope call of duty dies

this whole mindless action shooting no strategy gameplay is killing me. and now it has bled over to my splinter cell. thanks!

cant wait to see how they butcher max payne and ghost recon with this.
EddieNES on 7 Apr '10
Well done you muppets!!!

You just paid Activision another £24million for 3 maps and two old ones you already had on the last game!!!

Well smegging done indeed.
OptimusFrag on 7 Apr '10
Did all you keyboard warriors really think all your man tears would stop people buying this DLC?. Since this game came out all you've done is cry about it like massive babies. Nothing you say matters, people will buy whatever the hell they like. Same way you buy all the crap you want with your money.

I suggest you step outside your house and forget all about Modern warfare and all the terrible things it's done to you and your loved ones. No I didn't buy it, I sold the game, but I don't give a **** what people do with their money. Some buy drugs with it, some buy hookers or food, and some buy video game dlc. It's life deal with it and grow the **** up

MUGS

DLC free or not at all, especially map packs.
Barca Azul on 7 Apr '10
same idiots who will by the next game for £80 then spend another load of cash on some more DLC maps that should have been in the game in the first place, bet the people who downloaded are the morons who complain all the time about how games are to expensive Rolling Eyes
alan666 on 7 Apr '10
haha stoopid c**ts
bunneyo on 7 Apr '10
I think this shows just how small a minority we who visit Gaming websites actually are, if you had read the threads about the MW2 DLC you would have expected it to sell a few hundred units, not 2.5 million.

I didnt buy the map pack but i wont say the people who bought them are idiots like some will, it is after all, about choice.
StonecoldMC on 7 Apr '10
2.5 million idiots.
DaRockwilder1 on 7 Apr '10
I proudly announce that Activision have no COD dollars from me, on MW2 or any DLC.

hurray an excuse for loads of publishers to put up their price on DLC! Ok lets get 1 thing straight Mass effect 2 sold for cheaper than average for a game of its calibar. 2. Its given me 5 Free DLC and 2 DLC which only = 800M$ points. Where as COD 6 sold for higher than retail price and the DLC is being sold for higher than normal price. why the hell are people putting up with this shiz Evil or Very Mad

I bought the map pack, not bad at all, well done on the huge sales, shuts alot of the muppets up on here.
FK1983 on 8 Apr '10
Despite all the hate MW2 gets, I still enjoy playing it online (even though I personally think it's not as good as CoD4). But, I'm not paying a tenner for only 3 new maps I'm afraid.
ginsin on 8 Apr '10
Oh well, shows you that some people really are tards.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 8 Apr '10
i expect that 99.9% of the buyers where 10-12 year olds who persuaded mummy and daddt to buy it for them.

Anyway, on a more serious note, well done to all you that bought it as now we will have to put up with MW3 crap.

Your the only muppet mate, £10 quid for 3 maps. lmao. Can i come round yours and steal a loada stuff? You obviously dont mind day light robbery
EvilWaterman on 8 Apr '10
Thats really surprising considering that 5 of my COD addicted friends have been convinced by the stimulus pack to buy bad company 2 and sell modern warfare 2.

I think the problem people have is that this has proven that you can overcharge for some content and people will buy it. This could easily set a precedent for every company out there following suit and taking advantage of the consumer and putting prices up. I don't want to see snowballing prices any more than anyone else.
kimoak on 8 Apr '10
I bought the map pack, you know why? It's because so far I have 12 days playing time in online multiplayer and many more to come, all that time is spent playing the game with friends and having fun. So call me a sheep if you will but I'll just turn around and call you a sheep for following the opposite crowd in not buying it. It's all down to choice and when I make my choices I take all things into consideration, for example in this case I had microsoft points that I had already purchased sitting there doing nothing, with nothing of interest to me on the marketplace other than this map pack.
I bought it all the maps are good, yes two are from CoD4 but most games we play use the same engine and put it in a different setting, I traded CoD4 in before 5 came out so I can't go back to it to enjoy those maps again.

I agree. all the wingers about the 10 quid price tag and it makes no difference what 20 or 30 c&vg posters think. This was always going to sell and when you look at say the price of bowling, £15.00 for one frame which lasts maybe 30 minutes, it just goes to show what value for money this is when it will be played for hours on end by the likes of me and countless others. I for one cant wait to see where I can tactically insert in the old maps Wink

YOU FOOLS, YOU WEAK WILLED FOOLS. CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE? YOU HAVE OPENED THE DOOR FOR EVERY DEVELOPER TO CHARGE WHAT THEY WILL FOR DLC. SOON YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE MAIN CHARACTER.
THIS IS THE TIME WHEN THE COMPANIES TEST THE WATER FOR WHAT THE CONSUMER IS WILLING TO PAY AND YOU'VE PAID OVER THE ODDS MY FRIENDS. WHEN THE INDUSTRY SWITCHES TO DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION GAMES WILL BE 60 QUID AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT, THERE WILL BE NO SECOND HAND MARKET BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO PHYSICAL MEDIA TO TRADE IN.
BEWARE THE SEEDS YOU SOW NOW, AS THE CROP YOU REAP IN THE FUTURE IS LIKELY TO BE TOUGH AND BITTER.....

no need to shout! turn that caps off mate. if you really think you will only be able to download games your as sad as your typing. it would be the death of the games industry, for people want something in their hands and always will. the download contect is only worth the price people are willing to pay for it. dont like the price, dont buy it. cant afford it, dont buy it. simple. i play cod online most evenings so for me it's great value.
roger4000 on 8 Apr '10
Its a shame that these obtuse fools have been brought up so selfishly. Yes it is upto you what you spend your hard earned on. But when its possibly going to start a trend for higher prices across the board, then expect name callings as its not possible to grab you to slap some sense into.

And yes it is obvious that most people who paid £10 for the unlock code and 2 old maps never read games news sites. If they did they would of seen exactly what Activison think of their customers and how they mock and milk them for all they are worth. Those that do read on a regular basis and still comment on how tastey Activisons man fat is are 10x worse than the uninformed.
