Greenberg: Natal will sell 'millions and millions'

Xbox product boss has high hopes for peripheral
Microsoft product director Aaron Greenberg has predicted that Project Natal will sell "millions and millions" this Christmas.

The claim will be music to the ears of third party publishers - 70 per cent of whom are creating software for the game.

Sega West boss Mike Hayes that he hopes Natal will hit half of Microsoft's European installed base.

"Our focus for launch [for Natal] is on original experiences, built from the ground up," Greenberg told Edge's April issue. "We believe that's important because the first impression has to be a magical one.

"But because we expect millions and millions of these things to be sold this Christmas, over time developers will know millions of customers have these sensors so they can add functionality to their games.

"So you may see hybrid approaches, but our initial focus is on those unique experiences."

Issue 213 of Edge is out now.

I desperately need to see games first.
wildhook2 on 5 Apr '10
Well there are a load of mugs willing to buy anything microsoft. Still have yet to see anything worth while on Natal.
Even Sony has shown us what Move is capable of doing with an impressive demonstration, but Microsoft has shown nothing thats made me even remotely interested.

Seconded... I would like to see the games before I make a decision. I'm sure Fable 3 will be awesome- but it's going to take more than that.

I don't need to see any games, I know I'm going to hate it. I hope it flops to be honest, I like the 360 I just hate this gimmick crap.

A big claim from a desperate man.
jamie1 on 5 Apr '10
ffs sake dont sony fanboys have anything better to do
dorian2011 on 5 Apr '10
ye the sweets are pretty bitching man!
bunneyo on 5 Apr '10
It's a little early to make that claim yet. We need to see a price, a REAL demonstration of the final product rather than some smoke and mirrors prerendering, and some actual games that it will work with. Good ones, preferably, because I've yet to be convinced that Natal can do anything that the Eyetoy couldn't do in 2003.

As the viper say's

''Smart talk from a dumb man''

Hardy bucks a fine show on youtube.

Until we get to June Im sure we will keep getting these kind of press releases rom Greenburg and MS, however, once E3 comes around we will all have seen exactly the type of Games we should expect to see for the launch of Natal.

No one can its shoite, ok or amazing as no one has seen any Games for it once E3 has been and gone then any of those 3 descriptions will be warranted but until then ...
StonecoldMC on 5 Apr '10
I'm looking forward to E3 with all this new tech on show. Hopefully it will all live up to the hype and eveyone will be happy and smily.

As long as it actually works, and we get some original experiences as well as a low price point, I will probably get one. Saves me buying a wii for my girlfriend once she moves in..
monty_79 on 5 Apr '10
Well, if it doesn't sell millions and millions it'll be cheaper than HD-DVD add-on drives after Christmas.
tmulford on 5 Apr '10
The pricing will be what makes or breaks this. I can imagine this hitting a maximum of 1m units this year due to the Christmas rush, and then to have steady sales thereafter, but "millions and millions" is a tad optimistic.
BattleMoose87 on 5 Apr '10
@ sammikid,
The move demo's were FAR from impressive hence why ps move is now the laughing stock of the internet!
FK1983 on 5 Apr '10

Not everyone that speaks negatively against Natal is a sony fanboy. Natal is a very skeptical subject mostly because they haven't shown a single game that makes it worth buying. I mean would you seriously buy a Natal just to play 'Ball Wall' and 'Milo' for twenty minutes?

Everyone is against it at this point because they've shown absolutely nothing thats worthwhile. All M$ and Greenberg do is talk, now its time to see some action. "millions and millions will be sold" well prove to us why, because so far I'm unconvinced.
Focker420 on 5 Apr '10
It will sell a few hundred at best

Very Happy Sooo greenberg tell me how you like your salad (greenberg)..well i love my salad tossed..(warriorpan)..O.K...then.....so you predict that natal will sell millions on millions of unit's this holiday season....is that true????? (greenberg) HELL-NO...this s**t isn't going to sell more than 500,000 unit's tops...it's just to rope in the extra stupid...OH...i meant loyal fanbase...you know those that brought the hd-dvd add-on...those stupid jackasses Very Happy ...(warriorpain)...do you love woman..(greenberg)..NO...NOT AT ALL...(warriorpain)..men...you love men..(greenberg)..little boys...(warriorpain)..LITTLE BOYS...(greenberg) yes indeed...yes indeed...i love rubbing on there chest....(warriorpain)...O.K..(greenberg) you know the microsoft xbox360 was made for ....LITTLE BOYS... Twisted Evil .........to be continue.
warriorpain on 5 Apr '10
If a few games that I like use it then sure I may be interested.

As some posters have already said the price and games that use it are the key factor here. I don't think I will buy any motion controls at launch because there won't be any worthwhile titles until at least next year that use them.

Less talk more action. Smile
wwinterj on 5 Apr '10
warriorpain are you a peaodophile? your obsession with lil boys is scary
dorian2011 on 5 Apr '10
Cool @ dorian2011...what you didn't like my interview with greenberg...that's cool..we all have opinions Razz ...and NO...little boy's-girls or anything in that range of thing's isn't my cup of tea...I love WAR.

He asked to join... but even peado's have certain standards.
Suivatam109PS3 on 5 Apr '10
It's official. The Natal hype has gone too far. Too much, overexposed, yawn-inducing. It's to the point now where this thing had better give me a happy ending as it's powering down, otherwise it will never live up to it's own smacktalk.
Lloyd12 on 5 Apr '10
Embarassed it's like microsoft is afraid to show what natal could really do...funny because sony doesn't have that problem with the playstation move.alsoooo...sony already gave us...the gamer's something to look forward to with there new toy...SOCOM 4 with full move support. a real hardcore game with full motion support..oh yeah i forgot fable 3 is using natal...but the fact remains fable 3 isn't really a hardcore game Laughing
microsoft need's too show us something before E3 just like sony did...OH yeah i almost forgot...althought microsoft said that natal will be used for fable 3....there is nothing...not a trailer..not a demo...nothing what are they waiting for E3 to show off fable 3 with natal support...and if that's the case...then what is really new that microsoft can announce...this E3 is going to be one to remember.
warriorpain on 5 Apr '10
oohh you love war? so you like people dieing? (classic sony fanboy violent) hahahahaha socum better than fable? wasnt socom on ps3 a total flop and sucked sooo bad? haha exactly, and ps3 move is a dildo and buttplug that is a cheap rip off off the wii nothing that impressive about it and it will be s**t for boxing games and no fighter has a dildo in there hand when there fighting
dorian2011 on 5 Apr '10
haha exactly, and ps3 move is a dildo and buttplug that is a cheap rip off off the wii nothing that impressive about it and it will be s**t for boxing games and no fighter has a dildo in there hand when there fighting

When are 360 boys gonna learn that the Move is wayy more advanced than the wii?? So what if its 'like' the wii, at least it has buttons, unlike Natal.

Tell me dorian, how are you going to pause your game when playing with Natal? Phone rings while your working over a really tough boss, how do you pause? Yell at your tv, ya thats fun. How are you going to turn the camera, reload, throw a grenade, look down your sights, and then climb over something while playing a FPS??

Also the 2 fighting games for the Move already look awesome and they're still only in the pre-alpha stage. So what fighting/boxing games does Natal have?? What was that?? Oh ya I forgot, they haven't shown any.

As for Fable 3, the only thing you get to do with Natal is give occasional voice commands. You still have to use a controller to play the game. So much for innovation.
Focker420 on 6 Apr '10
I expect games that...

... are only playable with Natal will be mediocre (reviews <= 7/10).

... include Natal functionality to be fully playable without Natal.

In other words, I see no good reason to buy Natal. Can anyone plausibly contradict any of these statements? Note, the topic is Natal, not the Wiimote, not the PSMove - but Natal. Leave your fanboy rattles at home or incur my wrath (or maybe I'll just have a little kip and drop by to have a little chuckle instead)... Wink
