Super Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono has told OXM that there are no plans to continue the series.
While Ono keeps the possibility of future updates via DLC open, he also admits that he doesn't want to repeat 'mistakes Capcom has made in the past'.
"I have no intention of carrying on Street Fighter IV into Hyper Street Fighter IV or Ultra Street Fighter IV, because I'm aware of the mistakes Capcom has made in the past," Ono explains.
"So whether it would be a different IP or another Street Fighter, we'd like to keep options open. But in terms of Street Fighter IV, this is definitive... Super Street Fighter IV should be the distinctive end.
"Obviously there can be updates via DLC so perhaps in 2011, we could upload a patch for Super Street Fighter IV 2011 edition that would have tuning and balancing. But as a packaged product, I think this is the last."
Hopefully that's true. Give it a few months to get played and find faults, release a balance patch and give it a few years to have its time in the tourny sun before releasing V with a new fighting system and new look.
As much as I'm looking forward to ssf4 I really can't get enough of blazblue since it's uk release.
I think they're really going to compliment each other really well.
The best thing about the pseudo sequel is the lobby option, something that was curiously missing from the original. Hopefully with the influx of new characters balance won't be an issue because that will make or break the game.
Bring. It. On.
Oh and for all you self confessed fighting fanatics, you really owe it to yourself to play blazblue. It really is sensational.
Yeah blazblue is pretty great but what you forgot to mention is how steep the learning curve is compared to sf4 and that just like most people choose ken online in street fighter 4, the character you will tire of seeing online in blazblue is Iron Tager.........
I found Blazblue a lot easier than SFIV to play. Mainly because there aren't really any links in BB, and holding the button down repeats the input for five frames making combos a lot easier to pull off. The main difficulty in BB is memorising each character's combos, as they're pretty long and tend to have different break-off options as you go through them, that and knowing what to use when are the toughest things... And it's pretty fast too On a pure execution level it doesn't really come close to SFIV for difficulty though, SFIV's way too link-heavy to be as noob friendly as they said it would be, though being able to mash out reversal shortcut SRKs so they hit if you miss a link kind of helps beginners a bit.
If you see too many Tagers switch to Nu... He hasn't got a chance against her
The majority of games out are shooters, which get so boring after 20 secs. Walking around with a gun, how fun. Maybe its a brain washing thing?? SFIV brought back fighters and the one on one intense competition...not a monotonous shooting, you actually have to use links and cancels to combo. SSFIV should be fine for a while, as SNK among others plan on releasing more fighters. Shooters are just way overly saturated its ridiculous! Fighters are a breath of fresh air in a world with 85% of new games being lame shooters.
It's fine by me, and there's no longer any excuse for several versions; with online gaming so central to both the industry and the series, Capcom can't get away with small changes per game.
