Quentin Tarantino isn't interested in video games - and his consoles are gathering dust.
In a surprise admission, Tarantino - long seen as a fan of Japanese culture - said he'd rather use his TV ports to watch obscure, special region DVDs.
Speaking to The Telegraph back in February (yes, okay, we're slow off the mark), Tarantino said:
"I cannot get myself interested in video games. I've been given video game players and they just sit there connected to my TVs gathering dust until eventually I unplug them so I can put in another special-region DVD player."
Perhaps it's got something to do with 2007's Reservoir Dogs game which, erm, didn't do very well at all.
I cannot get myself interested in video games. I've been given video game players and they just sit there connected to my TVs gathering dust until eventually I unplug them so I can put in another special-region DVD player
Has this movie "giant" got loads of DVD players for specific regions? Has he not got the concept of 1 Multi-regional player will do the trick?
Don't get me wrong, it is a god damn crime that Tarantino didn't win best director at the Oscars, "oh yay, a female director finally won" so? who cares what gender they are, the Hurt Locker was p**s f**king poor, Inglorious should have won a lot more than it did, but regardless of that........well i've forgotten the point I'm making but I'm sure you see where I was going with this
I love QT but I'm surprised anyone thought he'd be interested in making video games or have time to play them. He is one of the biggest film geeks around and that's what makes him so awesome at making films.

Hmmmm, don't really agree with your comments about The Hurt Locker, which personally I thought was a breath of fresh air amongst the waves of crap movies that have been around for the last few years.
I have yet to see Inglorious, but I will watch it when it comes up on my Love Film listing.
I think too much can be read into comments like Tarantino's here. He isn't interested in making games, so what?

I went to see Inglorious 3 times. I just couldnt believe that someone could make a film that good. Its the best film ive ever seen, and ive seen some good films in my time.
I'm starting to find games pretty dull myselflately. As I get older they hold less appeal. I can only play a game for about 45 minutes now before I start getting bored. That goes for all games such as God of war 3, Heavy Rain, Mass effect 2. I just find the characters shallow, the plots uninspired, and far to often graphics are used to try and carry the game forward instead of gameplay. Most games released are just mindless flashy shooters that are boring as ****
as others have mentioned he can write a good story, so it wouldn't be out of hand for him to write one for a game, he has re-written quite a few screenplays for movies where he hasn't received a credit.
Wow, he's not interested in games so all the gamers come out with pitchforks ans start insulting him, like he's just insulted your momma, or accused gamers of being obese antisocial homicidal maniacs. All he said was "Not interested". At times like this I'm ashamed to be a gamer myself.
He doesn't play computer games, good for him. Stick to what you do best.
When Tarantino burst onto the scene in 1992 with Reservoir Dogs it was nothing short of a breath of fresh air (and its still in my Top 5 Faves of all time). Since then he has went onto to make some truly oustanding movies, as a Writer/Director to me he has very few peers of his generation and I for one would Love to see him change his mind and try getting into the Game making industry.
If you think that Bioshock is regarded as having one of the best storylines in a Game in recent memory, it kind of puts things into perspective when you look at the movie counterparts.
Gaming still has a long long way to go before it can tell a story like a movie, a long way.

Nop it is one of the best war movies out there and deserved the oscars but ya basterds was sweet too and I wouldnt argue that much if it did win but Hurt Locker is by no means p**s poor man (only that sniper scene was a but suspect), maybe it being branded a war movie and had minimal shooting got to you?
Anyways, good gaming stories are worlds apart from film and I doubt he'd do a good job, why do you think all game movies suck?
Gaming still has a long long way to go before it can tell a story like a movie, a long way.
..and vice versa, when a movie tries to explain a lot in such a short time frame you get movies like LOTR which is the most boring piece of crap you can ever watch. Films cant tell stories like games and games cant tell stories like films but games are at least getting closer and closer which films cant even try.

This.
On top of that, Metal Gear Solid 2 did the Bioshock thing waay before Bioshock. Raiden is supposed to an empty character, following the prompts of the AI system. His personality was nonexistant, like Null in Portable Ops. People always Bitch about Raiden, but they missed the point in the character.
Actually I think it was in a CVG MGS special (acronyms ahoy) that I read Kojima talking about it. Granted, it wasn't especially clear...

Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain and Mass Effect etc all tell a story a lot better than a lot of modern movies.
Dont get me wrong, those 3 Games you mentioned are excellent examples of the way Games are progressing and show that that stories in Games are becoming more important.
However it goes back to that old question, 'Can a Game make you cry?', I have never felt so emotionally attached or connected to a Game (havent played Heavy Rain) that I have even come close to getting a tear in my eye whilst playing through the story.
Remember, movies have been doing this for over 100 years and Games have only really been looking at the stories in them for about the last 15/20. I hope that in 10 years time we can look at more than a handful of Games where the story telling is the key factor and who knows, they might even make me shed a tear.
'In a surprise admission, Tarantino - long seen as a supporter of new media'.
Who was he seen as this by? You didn't make that up based on your own opinion did you?
Tarantino's references have been more from the pulp B-Movie past than from anything else. The only media he's entertained and excelled in is TV and cinema - hardly new media.
In Reservoir Dogs a lot of the shots seemed to be fixed frames. It was shot like a play, which it will be presumably very easily be made in to at some point.

When the modern movies are Avatar and The Hurt Locker (both of which I didn't enjoy..though the Hurt Locker was at least watchable) that isn't saying much.
Show me a game that comes anywhere near The Third Man or the first Godfather film in terms of narrative and construction..and then we'll talk.
And Uncharted 2? Really? Its a great game with great V.O, but the plot was awful. It started well, then went into a rejected Indiana Jones script.

I completely agree with you. Never has a game made such an emotional connection that it actually made me shed a tear. Some movie's stories can just grab you in a way that nothing else can. I never get emotionally tied to a video game character mostly because the story is never up to par. Also because its missing the human element.
When playing Heavy Rain it was a different situation. The story was told very well in a way that I truly wanted to see my characters succeed. It would actually give me a stressful feeling when one of my characters was in a deadly situation. Except for jayden, I'm glad I let him die , But never did I ever feel sad or sorry for the characters

What hes not got blu-ray yet?
Ah that is also true. And he can also get a multi-region one to boot.
