3D better in games than film - Ninja Theory

Enslaved dev excited about the 3D revolution
Stereoscopic 3D - the new much-hyped tech that makes images appear to leap out of the screen at you - will be better in games than it is in film, reckons Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades.

We asked Antoniades, who's team's currently working on action adventure game Enslaved, if he thinks 3D will be the next big thing in games.

"Yes, I do," he replied confidently. "And I think 3D is going to be way more awesome in videogames than in movies. I think movies still look a bit strange when you cut cameras and you've got depth of field. You don't know where to focus and it kind of throws you."

He went on: "When you're in a 3D game I think it'll make so much sense with controls and depth perception."

You can read the rest of our interview with the Ninja Theory boss man right here.

3D will only catch on if they find a way to cut out sitting around looking like a prat in massive glasses looking at a blurry screen. I suppose that's the advantage of gaming.........

too much alone time

No glasses and a wide viewing angle is the ONLY way I can see it becoming mainstream.

Now whether that is physically possible, I don't know, but it's the only way I'll sign on the dotted line.

there are a few TV's out this year which you dont need the glasses for 3d as there are filters on the screen or something like that, however for the price you'll pay for one i'll stick with the nerdy glasses. 3d TV = £7,000, looking like a nerd = 85p from cineworld woohoo

3D better in games than film...That's like saying dog crap on your hand is better than on your mouth, still don't want it.

I am sure they could design better looking glasses than the dodgy ones we have now. It's all about functionality as opposed to style. they don't care because you are in a dark movie theatre.

Anyway £d will be better on games because of it's interactivity.

3D gaming could benefit from high tech screens (the Nintendo 3DS will probably start the trend by using a small, cheap screen) and eye tracking webcams that would record eye motion and use it to improve 3D rendering. Students from Imperial College London have developed a $30 headset that can be used to play Pong with eye motion! If eye tracking is so "easy" to implement, I think 3D gaming without glasses is not so far away.

Seriously. f**k 3D. I've had enough. It sucked back in the past and it sucks now.
