250GB 360 hard drive out now

Despite previously 'confirmed' April dates
All those April release dates reported for the 250GB Xbox 360 hard drive? Forget them. The hard drive's actually out now - says an actual Microsoft press release in our actual inbox.

Yes, it's still £79.99 - the other reports got that right - but you don't have to wait to get your hands on one. With 250GB slotted into the top of your console you should have more than enough room for the "13,000 pieces of gaming content, and more than 25,000 movies, TV episodes and music videos" on Xbox Live.

Will you be forking out for one?

250GB = 25,000 movies/TV shows/video's does it?

Please tell me how you encode your video files, thats works out at 10MB per movie.

A decent quality movie weighs in at around 700mb to 1GB depending on lenght, using xvid/divx formats.
EDIT: I have no idea how big a movie download from Live is, but is likely to be a lot more than 1GB, more like 3 or 4 if you are downloading HD content

An hour TV show is around 350MB.

I swear this site is written by idiots

I think someone needs to re-read the article. It says that there are 25,000 movies and 13,000 pieces of game content on Xbox Live.

£80? I wouldn't expect anything less from Microsoft.

You can pick up a 500gb 2.5" HDD for under £60 quite easily.
Squall5005 on 26 Mar '10
maybe they took the smallest file sizes (music videos) for the 25,000 figure. but even that wouldnt work. I filled my 250GB PS3 drive and belive me there wasn't even 500 films/shows let alone 25,000.
moss66 on 26 Mar '10
Will be picking up one of these beauties real soon, my current 20GB drive is a bloody joke!

Lol so your right. aint it funny how missing the little word 'the' changed how the sentence came across. Our bad Embarassed
moss66 on 26 Mar '10
Well it looks like MS are not going to rip-off people quite as much this time. I would have expected a £200 price tag when compaired to the 120gig HDD.

Still a lot of money for what it isp

Haha. He's embarrassed himself.

Now be the bigger man, admit you are the real idiot and apologise to Mr. Jackson.

Not at all...

"With 250GB slotted into the top of your console you should have more than enough room for the "13,000 pieces of gaming content, and more than 25,000 movies, TV episodes and music videos" on Xbox Live. "

Meaning 250GB should be enough room for the 25,000 movies that are available on Xbox Live.

I know what they meant, but they wrote it incorrectly

It's harder to take someone seriously when they use things like 'lol' or 'lmao' as punctuation.

Besides, how was he being a fanboy?

I just want a reasonable upgrade to my 20gb drive for a reasonable price. Give me a 60gb drive for £35 at retail and I would bite your (metaphorical) hand off. It's a shame that to get the most out of this generation of xbox (i'm thinking game installs to save my dvd drive from burning out and getting disc read errors at inconvienient game points) I have to throw money at it over my initial investment. This money will no doubt (in my mind) prove to be wasted down the line when the NextXbox comes out and uses a different proprietory save format. Serves me right for being an early adopter I guess. I'm not intested in digital downloading stuff so don't want a 50tb drive or any other sh!t, just something reasonable, for something reasonable.......
ubera on 26 Mar '10
Even though this is a lot of money for what you get and a rip off I may look into this before or after I upgrade my PS3 HDD.

It is a shame you can't just use any HDD like PS3 but hey a bussines likes to make money infact we all do so fair play to Microsoft.

Really? fair play to microsoft? basically they hold a gun to your head if you desperately need a upgrade. Xbox could of easily been designed like the PS3 to take any compatible drive, but instead decided to milk their loyal fan base for all its worth. Different strokes and all that but not for me.
moss66 on 27 Mar '10
Typical rip off Microsoft. I upgraded my PS3 HD to 250GB and it cost me 37 quid! Saying that I will never fill it and the 120GB you get on the Elite will do me for now.

Lol, the Naked man is the Hoff, I am a Knight Rider Fanboy, greatest show of the 80's, but you are probably too young to know that.

I am a PS fan, yes. But as a gamer who buys every console, and have owned Wii/X360/PS3/DS/PSP, I personally think the PS3 is the best, and yet its the only one I didnt buy at launch, cuz of its high price.

Newest ally? No. Ive been on this site since it was released in 1997 as gameonline.com and occasionally dip into the forums when I get bored.

Back then I was a Nintendo fanboy

I remember it when it was gameonline.com, I remember spam refreshing the site on the day the Dreamcast was first shown. Ah memories!
