God of War 'pinched Prince Of Persia players'- Ubisoft

'We're trying to get our audience back,' says Ubisoft man
Ubisoft animation director Jan-Erik Sjovall has told CVG that the publisher has "lost so many Prince of Persia players to God of War" - but is hopeful it can get them back with new release The Forgotten Sands.

Speaking in an interview with CVG, the PoP man said that many players miss the challenge and brutal moves from the Sands of Time games - but Ubisoft's trying to tempt them back with its next instalment.

"When we make questionnaires and we ask, 'what did you play in the past?' The answer's 'Prince of Persia'. 'What do you play now?' 'God of War'. 'Would you play Prince of Persia again?' 'No, it's not hard enough'," Sjovall told CVG.

"So the idea [with Forgotten Sands] was clearly that we'd try to bring our old audience back, but also we're winning a new audience."

When asked why he thought Prince of Persia players switched over to Kratos' adventure, the animation director said: "Partially maybe the animations - the death animations.

"A lot of people ask, 'will you have gore in the game?' It'd fairly interesting. We want to have interesting fight sequences in there but not indulge in the violence like God of War does. We want to keep it interesting so the acrobatics, the story and the whole look are all supporting each other and people go, 'yeah, I want to play that game'."

Forgotten Sands - which is due out in May - will "expand the Prince of Persia universe with a new storyline, the introduction of new characters, and new powers over nature and time," says Ubisoft.

Don't blame God of War. The original Prince of Persia & The Sands of Time was the best in the series. It just went downhill from there.

Whereas the God of War is not just about tons of platforming and fancy acrobatics like PoP. Its got a gripping storyline and over the top non-stop action, as well as some platforming and puzzles. Every installment gets better and better, with PoP its the opposite.

And overall Greek mythology is wayyy more interesting and commonly known about. Its not all about the gore, yes its a major factor, but the main appeal comes down to the story and the characters. And truthfully its been a while since PoP has had a decent story.

Don't blame other games, its your own faults. PoP could exist in the same world as GOW if the game was truly good enough. Its just not, at this point in time. Also the PoP they have coming out still looks like a ps2 game in my opinion.

The sand of time trilogy is brilliant the worst thing that happened that messed up the prince of persia is the game that came out in 2008 it was one of the worst games ever.

Thankfully it looks like the prince of persia series is back on track with the forgotten sands looking forward to it and the movie.

I play anything based on art, style, fantasy, cinematics, & story. I'll take PoP, GoW, DMC, Bayonetta, Darksiders, etc. I feel blessed to get anything that's not based on modern/realism/warfare (WE DON'T NEED A BILLION 'CALL OF DUTIES'). As for difficulty, I play all games on VERY EASY, I don't play for any sort of challenge, just the experience...

Me too funnily enough although just tonight I finished my titan playthrough of GOW3 kinda annoying but I wanted the Trophy. Also I liked the last P.O.P. and I was always gonna get the FS anyway so I don't think that comment is fair.

Well maybe they should work on the fact that PoP gets worse with every installment. I mean they even took the fun out of platforming in PoP 08'

I'm not surprised, God Of War has stuck to its guns and kept the same concept going with just a few small tweaks to the formula. PoP is a very different beast from its early days. Maybe that's why... old schoolers have been put off by the direction it has gone in?

I picked up the latest PoP for cheap a couple of weeks ago from ebay. It was dire to say the least, there's your problem. It got old fast and I felt like it was constantly trying to hold my hand the whole game.

Ubisoft is stupid. Now they are blaming GoW for their failures just as they blame piracy on the PC. It's not a simple as they put it. Considering these are single player games, if they were making anything decent ppl would play both GoW and PoP. Its not like ppl only play one shooter, or only one action adventure game. You just have to make something worth their time. Not to mention, gow is on ps systems alone. What happened to the other platforms? Whats their excuse there?

Ubisoft simply sucks
