BioWare's Ray Muzyka has said that Mass Effect 3 may exceed the "quality bar" that Mass Effect 2 set.
"It's all about the quality, and we are going to innovate in all of our products," Muzyka told Joystiq. "Each one we're striving to make better than the last and the way we do that is to listen to fan feedback and, yeah, we're going do some innovative things in future instalments of Mass Effect."
"But it's all going to be about quality, you know, so that's the governor on everything we do. It's striving for quality. Mass Effect 2 set a really high quality bar for us as a studio group, and, hey, we want Mass Effect 3 to exceed that."
Greg Zeschuk, the other half of BioWare's founding duo, added: "There's quite an evolution from Mass 1 to Mass 2 ... I don't imagine [Mass Effect 3] will be quite as dramatic as Mass 1 to Mass 2... There's an incredibly opportunity for refinement and I think one thing we talked about is, if you look at the evolution of the shooter experience from 1 to 2, that's a huge step. I think, realistically, we can have yet another step, maybe refine it another level."
Oh i hope their not starting the hype machine now cos if they do my puny mind will expload when it doesnt exceed expectations of a year of hype- mania. Take Avatar for example; years of hype only for it to turn into Fern Gully meets the Smurfs.
The Mass Effect saga is one of my all time favorite game series. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ANYTHING BLADERUNNER-ESQUE. The smooth polish of ME 2 made the experience so much better. Any enhancements to ME 3 will be amazing. I simply can't wait...
Typical hype from the industry. I don't care what representatives say about their next game.
I still stand by my previous comments that the planet scanning part of Mass Effect 2 is one of the dumbest, most boring things I've ever seen in a videogame! Seriously who would have thought hours of watching a spinning globe would be fun? And worst still that instead of a driving section. I really can't be bothered to mention the loss of RPG and the fun customising weapons and load-out.
It's rare that a sequel gets so much wrong and takes such a step backwards, but Mass Effect 2 certainly takes the prize for that one.
If Bioware had made ****ing CRANE SIMULATOR I'd have bought it. With a manic grin on my face and tears of joy rolling down my apple'd cheeks.
They only make Triple A, 5 star, all time classics.
If this guy says 3 will be better, I don't care. He could have said 'Hey we spend all day at the local cat house doing the do on HUUGE piles of money, then in 2 or 3 years we wave this magic wand we found a while back and out pops the latest blockbuster'. I'd be just as happy with that.
For all future Bioware stories, all I'll ever be interested in seeing is a release date. This will make me happy.
The mining parts aside, ME2 was just quality and the series is the best I've played so far this generation. As long as they can deliver a great conclusion to the trilogy and create a better way of gaining resources, I'll be satisfied.
The entire game was much more streamlined and just better. It put the story and action at the foreground and got rid of all the endless inventory tinkering that just got in the way. I'll agree that customising your gun was good. But once you'd made yourself a decent weapon you didn't bother with it anymore.
I think how they could improve the sequel would be to make a gun upgrade system like the armour one in two and drop the mining. or at least make itless of a chore.

I have to say, I do agree with many of the points you've made, Jenson.
The problems with the second were that, unlike the first where every single enemy you killed made a difference as it gave experience and dropped items, the 2nd absolutely murders this aspect as all of the fighting sections are almost exactly identical. Yes the physics were improved greatly over the first, but the level lay outs are so dull and easy, I started to dred the combat rather than revel in it. Why were the battle parts always seperated from the exploration parts? It caused the second to be choppy and didn't flow nearly as well as the first.
Also, why did they get rid of the Mako? Why not just improve the vehical sections, and make it easier to handle?
The 2nd ME was far superiour in many aspects, but ultimately the first is the better game.
Mass Effect 2 was superb- though I thought Saren made a good villain in the first. But as far as RPG's go it pi**es over everything else (bar Dragon Age) this gen.
Actually it pi**es over just about everything this gen... well, until Mass Effect 3 anyway.

Since when have video games started p*ssing? Did I miss what the last update was for? If your 360 has red ring does it burn when it pees?
Woooo, easy girl. No need to get so defensive, eh? T'was a figure of speech is all.
Fortunately I'm yet to have my 360 RROD so I couldn't tell you if it was burning or not- but if it does maybe it'll encourage me to hurry up and finish Uncharted 2.
