They look a little uncomfortable to hold to me, like they don't fit the hands like Nintendo's do, I'll pass thanks.

Wii fanboys unite! Laughing

No batteries. No wires. Virtually lagless response.

I can feel the bitterness from here... Wink

nintendo need to release a updated version of the wii remote, it too needs rechargable batteries.

just think of all the batteries that people have spent money on and dumped in landfill sites........hell of a s**t load.

I've had a Wii for over a year, no problems with the batteries, I've had a gba and gbc so rechargable batteries are a second nature, personally I rather have changeable batteries than ones that I can't change and will conk out some day.

Me too.

Also, this has nothing to do with the design of the WiiMote itself. If you buy some rechargeable batteries and a charger, then there's no problem.

jesus! did nintendo forget to apply for a patent for the wiimote and nunchuck style of controlling games? or were they just unable to?
i mean, motion control adoption by all the console makers was inevitable, but at least microsoft are trying something different...
with all this flurry of publicity has anyone noticed if sony have at least thanked nintendo publicly for the design???Smile
tmten on 11 Mar '10
Uh Natal different? Its an eyetoy.... Sure it has voice features but that doesn't mean eyetoy can't do it after all, it has a mic. A software update and it will be just as good if not better than natal. If it isn't already. Rolling Eyes
gogo65uk on 11 Mar '10
I think for the same reason you can't patent a joy stick, analogue stick or joypad.

Anyhow, when Sony shipped 11 million EyeToy units, they practically started the Mainstream Motion Control Format on consoles, but then realised they needed buttons as games can become limited to hand movements alone. This is also why Sony didn’t have the market flooded with cheap party games on PS2.

The new PS Move has been in development for years not and is ready to be released, Nintendo in got there though after Eye Toy with their motion controls but Sony are just expanding on their initial Eye Toy idea.

Microsoft has gone back to basics with Natal by copying Sony's initial Eye Toy idea.

Bonkers!!!

See I dont want to jump into the weird flame wars going on across these forums about which is better but I competely agree with that quote. Im a gamer so to me touch screen gaming (mostly) sucks, the Eyetoy (had it on ps2) doesnt interest me although I find it a novelty.
I find it odd how people are jumping at natal and saying how "Its something new" no it isn't. I dont want to play games like that and how much control can you have anyway? I want a controller so "To Me" sonys version is much more appealing. Best of both worlds. Saying that, its failed horribly in the gaming department from what ive seen so far but the tech is there.
There's something people see in Natal that im blind to. For causal gamers or even for non gaming uses I do see potential but gaming??? Actually playing a proper game?
runadumb on 11 Mar '10
Personally I like the look of it. I like anything with LED's and this one is going to look cool in the dark haha!
Sinthetic on 11 Mar '10
We'll wait fot Nintendo to be as classy as always and just say that they are flattered.

First time I have seen these close up pics. Aye, they are rather similar to the Wiimote. Testament to a great design in the first place then. Smile

so many people are ill informed. Natal aint just a standard camera, its a sensor. It scans the room from its perspective and maps out a 3d environment in real time. when you move its detects your actual movements in real time. (regardless of current lag issues)

where as eye toy scans a 2d image for movement. any movement detected and it will say, "ooh something moved! lets respond!" E.G. Trials of Topaq camera game, mesmerize, and basically any other eyetoy game, you can get a stick or a cushion or anything you want and wave it in front of the camera and it respond.

where as natals technology IS different. It has facial recognition (which standards camera can do), voice recognition (which any good piece of software can do) and it scans the room in 3d, (which only natal can do)

the PS Move only tracks the ps3mote. it doesnt contain and motion sensors like accelerometers, gyrators or IR cameras.

I wish people would do some research before posting fanboys slurs.

and for you sony whores, the eyetoy was not a new idea, I had a PC camera back in 1999 which came bundled with some games on the drivers cd. like juggling, whack a mole etc. all basic eyetoy tech. what the Move does is track the glowing light. same premise people. but as a bonus, it has buttons on the device. nothing stopping Natal from letting you hold original controller or natal telling you to hold a torch etc. the natal is capable or head tracking which is where I think it will shine.

eg, I play Trials Hd LOADS and I tilt my head to the right some times naturally. there is nothing stopping natal from registering my head tilts and learning from that and saying, hey, on this jump, he like the view from this angle. let just change the camera for him before he gets there. or in CoD, you sneek up to a room but dont want to expose yourself, you lean you head or body to the right and it will lean the camera for you to peer into the room.

I got buckets of ideas and if I have came up with a few in so little time, imagine what the devs have come up with.

please everyone, research your facts before you embarrass yourselves.

Didnt Sony state PS Eye can do recognition? Anyhow, I think Id be mainly washing vitual windows and kicking air ball on Natal they way I was with Eyetoy. I've yet to see any reason to show otherwise.
starsail on 11 Mar '10
@gogo65uk/starsail/runadumb:

as paulhudd has explained, natal isn't just an eyetoy ripoff, there is a big difference. and as he alluded to, it's akin to the difference between 2d and 3d. if you took off your sony branded goggles for a minute you may see that it has a lot of potential.

also, i don't really care one way or the other about the origin of moves design. i was merely poking a little fun at sony. and no, i'm not a 'fanboy'. i don't currently own any of the current gen consoles, nor do i have any immediate plans to buy one. however, i'm a long-time gamer and like to keep up to speed...
anyway, i'm sure there'll be some excellent games for the move, just as there will for natal, just as there is for the wii. i may one day own all three, although i struggle to find the time for gaming as it is. 13 years after it's release and i still haven't completed mario 64!

Geez relax pal Rolling Eyes I love how overly agressive people get on the internet at times haha.

You were right though I had forgotten that natal's tech is based on 3d positioning and didnt know that the sony wand was missing G-sensor and whatnot. Im in work so only picking up bits.
Still, my points still valid. Now to your (Kick people in the face) post. Yes nothing is stopping you from holding a controller in your hand and using it with natal. The ideas you mention are poorly thought out though. How still do you sit when playing games? If your looking to change camera with a mere head movement how sensitive would it have to be to be A)easy to do and B) not go off at random thus screwing up your perfect time?
The idea is there and in the best case i can see your thinking but I think reality will be a brick wall to the face for you. Natal support wont be needed for most games so at best it will be an addition. Thats maybe not a bad thing, could mean that those using natal have an advantage against those that dont due to the added control...if its used well.
So, as is you need both hands on a controller to play many modern games, so really your looking at your body to do these extra moves. Again it comes down to how accurate natal is (I believe this to be high) and how little you move during games so as set off actions by mistake. During a frantic MP game this could be really tricky.

Look I see Natal as having some great software behind it, I just think that "Real" games wont see any benefit. I will be happy to say Im wrong if it's the case. Now go have a wee lay down and relax

What an idiot. Ive more or less read the same post from you in multiple threads, you are obviously very passionate about MS/Natal, however I think you should get your facts right. The PS Move clearly does have sensors or accelerometers in otherwise some of those demo's would not be possible. I dont know the facts, and to be honest, I cant be bottomd to find out the tech specs to satisfy you

All I care about are the games. At the moment PS Move shows more potential as a game controller, I dont care how old the tech is (oh and you keep banging on about Voice Recognition - which is demo'd in a PS Move video)

I wish everyone would stop bitching about consoles they dont own/like when this is a great time for gamers, so many options for so many tastes.

I was thinking the same about the COD idea though, used to love the leaning around corners in Soldier of Fortune and wish someone would put into a PS3 game by tilting the controller.

Why am I wearing sony branded googles? I have given my opinion on why I dont see Natal as being the 2nd coming of Christ and stated that im so far unimpresssed by Sonys Move. I just think it has more potential for actual games but again the ones shown aren't worth a s**t.

Also, seriously get your ass on Mario 64 this Weekend. Its one of my favourite games of all time and I play through it every few years or so. Last play was about 5 months ago and I only managed 117 stars Sad couldn't get the snowmans head/body star, the Red rings on the clouds star (lost patience) and one seems to have eluded me completely.

fair enough mate. it's just people are so partisan on here, it's often difficult to distinguish geniune objective opinion with fanboyism. also, no offence was intended by any of my comments. it's the age old (well, the age of the internet old!) problem of online commenting; passion + anonymity = offence. we're all entitled to an opinion, and we're all passionate, which i guess is why we're here.
anyway, as for mario 64, yeah love that game. i guess i mentioned it as it always niggles me that i've never completed it, especially as when i was a kid i dedicated my life to completing mario world on the snes. you're right, i might have to get on it this weekend, although i've just got a new graphics card for my pc and i'm itching to spend some time doing some serious gaming on that without my games looking like low-res slideshows... still, nice choices to have:Very Happy:

So in case you don't though it looks like yet (read: wierd)

It's spelt WEIRD. Get it right Evil or Very Mad

That's probably the one spelling mistake that p**ses me off more than anything else. I hate the whole f**king "i before e except after c" rule which is a load of bullocks, especially now that it's even ended up being used by journalists who are supposed to be paid for their English skills.

I know CVG have a reputation for bad spelling and grammar on occasion, but this one has just taken it too far. Seriously, sort it out guys Mad
