Pictures have emerged apparently showing the innards of new Xbox 360 model.
They appear to show the console's CPU and GPU combined in a single, small chip for the first time, Kotaku reports.
If the images are genuine, the site suggests it would represent a complete redesign of the console.
Their Chinese website of origin goes as far as to claim that testing of the new model was recently completed in the Land of the Rising Sun.
As Sony did when those dubious PS3 Slim pics emerged last year, Microsoft will probably say it knows nothing about these images. But then Sony released PS3 Slim, didn't it.
Plus Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer spoke recently about the potential for more Xbox 360 "form factors".
I have no doubts that they'll release a slimmer model, they must have noticed how it worked wonders for Sony and with Natal coming out this year, it's as good a time as any to release one.

To be fair, those pics did look fake! - just goes to show that you can never be too sure.
It wouldn't surprise me - as the earlier poster said, it worked wonders for Sony. I'm not personally sure quite what the attraction is myself - I can't really see me desperately wanting a slightly smaller version of a console I already own and I doubt too many people are holding off buying a 360 in the hopes that a Slim model would be released.
Still, they do sell, so there must be some people that would want one.
I think the xbox could do with a redesign. The current one is looking a bit dated now. Give us a nice looking, slimmer, quieter machine with no huge power brick and I'd be interested. Bluray would also be nice

If they can get the reliability & heat sorted whilst still making a 360 Slim then all is well and good.
And no there won't be a Blu-Ray drive - if they were to release one for this gen, it would have to take the form of the HD-DVD player add-on as a BR 360 would alienate those without (if it were needed for designing games etc.)

Possibly, but make all existing HDDs redundant in the process (including the new 250 gig one)? I doubt it's likely they'd redo it to be honest, which would tie their hands somewhat.

They won’t include wireless N, they released a new adaptor covering that a while ago so they’d just expect you to buy one of those if you wanted that functionality. Unless they wanted to boost sales of a new version that significantly that they make them more desirable to old model owners in an attempt to get them to upgrade…but I think they probably make to much money from peripherals to do that.
I am not keen on the look of the 360 myself. It looks rather dull. I would not be surprised at all if they are planning a slimmer version. A makeover wouldn't go amiss.

I took it into the kitchen and tried to do toast on it, but i had to wait ages just like when you wanna download a demo,so i melted it down into an ashtray and it works wonders now.
- Onboard optical out - 2-3 USB ports on the back (most likely 1 extra for Natal) - 1 Memory Unit slot instead of 2. And if there are 2, they're stacked. - HDD will be internal (why else would there be 2 SATA headers on the mainboard?) - I have no idea what those other headers are meant for (the wite ones)

I do belive that MS are working on a slim model, I don't think this is it.
1) The only reason this claims to be the new chipset is because there is a 360 badge like on the old chip-sets. Here is the Jasper chipset http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/4/2008/11/f3c460fe.jpg But on the Jasper, look how many other things a MS branded. Have a good look and you'll see quite a few. On this new chipset the board is not branded or any other componant.
2) A Coolmaster fan? Really?! You sure MS would use that brand? Anyway, look at the size of it! I doubt MS slap a monster like that on when even the Jasper didin't need a monster like that! Is that really how you go about making a 'Slim' machine?!
3) Not enough ports! There are no direct ports for memory cards on this motherboard. I doubt MS would link them another way. So this would mean they are dropping support for memory cards which I very much doubt.
I could be proved wrong, but until then I don't think this is a new 360 slim, just an internet joker.
Being brutally honest I really don't think they should even contemplate a redesign unless they have a) totally fixed the RROD, or b) are planning to fix it with this new model...
Not trolling...I myself have honestly given up on the 360 due to the hassle of repeatedly sending it off - three times in my case!
I could handle the several week wait but what really rubbed salt into the wound was the months of it whirring and chundering in the build-up to the inevitable heart-attack - not a bad analogy really as it felt like I was watching the death-clock tick on some incurable illness...
If, however, they have fixed the problem entirely then I eat all my words with a big dollop of humility! I know the Elite I last had (18 months ago perhaps) lasted me for almost a year and is still serving the buddy I sold it to.
EDIT: In reply to the above post: it would surely stand to reason that a smaller casing would require a bigger fan to keep it from overheating. Personally, I would prefer to have a 360 the size of a pc tower if I knew it would absolutely not conk out on the second day of my week off - which actually happened to me previously!
The sales boost would be only in case they could lower the price ,something dubious.PS3 Slim sales boost would have been short lived if it hadnt been accompanied of a big price cut.

Although it is long overdue a redesign (proper) and believe a new model will come this board looks alittle strange for just a New Console Sku design. One thing is their are way to many jumpers on the board and other Power Supply/ I/O ports??
Looks like the DVD drive would go next to the Large Fan (where the 3 Gold Holes are with a hole in the middle of the board). Ethernet port moved to the middle at the back would mean that the outlet for the heat would be the side of the console so would assume that the top would have vents on (where the fan is).
This may well be one of the designs that have gone through or a new PC/Xbox combi machine to be released at E3 as their seems to be alot of scope on the board for additonal I/O way beyond a normal console (dual Sata at the back among the others options )??? Interesting though as these pictures usually come out of some kinda fact!!

Sony are the ones most guilty of it recently, but I distinctly recall the Sega Master System II, the Megadrive II, and previous to that, the rubber keyed Sinclair Spectrum 48k, then the 48k+, not to mention the 128k and 128k+.
If this news is true, it is not a case of them copying Sony ffs, it happens all the time...

If it's more reliable than the current POS I'll definitely get one. There are a lot of good games that I'd love to play on the XBox, the only thing stopping me is that mine has died and my brother's has died twice. Pretty much all of my friends have had to replace theirs as well. I don't know what the failure rate is on them but it must be 1 in 2, if not more, from my experience. A more reliable system would be a definite buy for me.

Although I was one of the few that thought the PS3 pic's were genuine and since proved correct, these pic's just dont add up. As already stated there's to many headers, the fan certainly would not be a retail brand and its also in the wrong orientation for a console. Yes i know the PS3 fan is also this way round, but that fan is designed to be and this one isn't. Also what about the hard drive connector? Maybe fits onto one of the headers? The DVD drive is also usualy connected by a ribbon cable and i can't see this type of header on there. Who knows, but my money is on a slim version just not this one.

It would seem that would be logical, but this is not the case. Redesigned chips normally produce less heat thanks to better engering, also look at the PS3 slim. The fan was taken out and a different cooling system was put in, reducing size and noise.
I recon its probably some sort of prototype for a smaller 360 or at least a new redesgin of the boards and components, but putting the Cpu and Gpu on one chip is a bad idea - the standard 360 mobo suffers from overheating issues as it is. If the Gpu and Cpu are on a single chip then it would get very hot indeed when running a demanding game. It would certainly need a hell of a lot of cooling and the case would also need a good design with heat extraction properties. Still, that Coolermaster fan looks big enough!

Although I agree with you, how you have worded that is not very nice, and makes you look a bit silly. I think trophies are better becuase than achievements becuase its clear to any person just how hard a trophy is to get by its colour. Bronze, silver, gold and plat are things that people are used to already even outside of videogames. So by using them even people with less games experence can understand what they mean.
But this is just my opinion, as is yours. Neither are by no means 'fact' as you put it.
If I was you, I would think about what you write before you type it. Explain your reasons, and don't confuse fact with opinion.

Hello Vermin - I take it you can afford a PS3 again now and played/completed all the latest games and got collecting them there trophies?? and of course you play every new game on Xbox too and are qualified to make the comparison for yourself??
haha you know f**k all about achievements, trophys are s**t :L wow i got a platinum trophy wow, saying you got the full 1000 on left for dead or the full 1000 on ninja gaiden 2, now thats bragging rights there than a stupid leveling system. and achivements boost sales of games FACT, im very proud of my be online with 1000 people achievement on nba 2007 which i got before the servers closed now that is now unatainable so thats better than a s**tty platinum trophy. and diffrent kinds of trophys? dude its the same lists they just replace points with bronze silver or gold and give u a platinum for full completion, the 360 has a similar thing it gives you the picture of the game in ur completed section which is much cooler to show off as they are grouped together

BTW... XBox 360 'slim' = true. Expect an announcement at E3. Don't expect the RRP to be lower than what it is now though, All XBox 360's will come bundled with Natal in future.

There is more you can do with achievements. You can use them as gamerscore points on AC2 and a trophy is just sony's take on Achievements. Id rather have 1645 G on Halo 3 than 51 trophies on Assassin's creed.
Svd is a "smart" fanboy who uses "logic" to fend of people who respond to him. In the past few months it's become clearer to me that Svd's a massive fanboy. Most people who own/have owned both prefer the 360 AND Achievements. You just can't take it cause your a fanboy who hides behind his PS3.

This is the only point I don't agree with. I believe achievements are an excellent idea - they've certainly encouraged me to play games in different ways, or play it through multiple times. Were it not for the achievements, I wouldn't have collected all those feathers in Assassins Creed II, or played through Resi 5 on Pro (which was BLOODY hard), or be contemplating a 3rd attempt at that damn Gates of Hell achievement on Dantes Inferno (seriously, anyone got any advice?)...
I love them, and think they are one of the greatest ideas to hit gaming in years.
Highly likely to be true,as Intel have a 6 core chip and intergrated graphics and cpu core on chip too,would save them money , and help with the japan market ,as small is key there.

rite i mod 360! from what i can see this photo has been taken by some workers in the assembly line some chinese retard it is "GENUINE" "GENUINE". rite lets go technical! straight away i can see that this 360 is shorter by a big margin to the original thus why there is no second heat sink, side fan or air tunnels cause it has PC style CPU "DIRECT" cooling "TOP MARKS FOR MICROSOFT" already. this 360 can only go on its side its too thin i guarantee you, if you want to know how thin open up your 360 and take out DVD drive and its as thick as that DVD drive, give or take 1 cm for casing. from this photo i can definitely say that it has a "built in HDD" and "boom there Microsoft just lost its versatility"(as you can see on the pic there is 2 "TWO" SATA plugs which means 1 for DVD drive and 1 for HDD thus making it cheaper to just put standard stock laptop HDD than encasing it in fancy pop out HDD case with MS tag on it at triple laptop HDD price)who cares i have already got 250GB. it is possible that it only comes with a 250GB HDD to cater for "games on demand" microsoft way of screwing game and game station. now thus it can only go on its side because on top of it guess what? its going to have project natal "1 sensor 2 cameras" screw PS3 this now has got more gadgets than stupid six axis magic wond, who cares about blue-ray, the guy who invented blue ray should be shot. who needs blue-ray when we have got HDD to download 1080p films and games, Microsoft is thinking outside the box already they will never have blue-ray its owned by stupid Sony they will never get a patented license to make it 4 the 360 and so games on demand pops out of no where why? new next gen console no DVD drive 1080p games straight on to HDD problems sorted (just like mp3 player to i-pod)."just to let you know it only cost Sony 1p for every ten pound profit they make for selling blue ray player the only major difference between DVD drive and blue-ray is the "laser". now back to the picture, its going to have 1 mem card slot, 2 usb in back 2 usb in front not side to side but 1 on top of the other to cut space thus to accommodate 4 wired controller stupid microsoft only put 3 on old one, 1 ethernet port, the video/hdmi ports, one special plug for project natal and one power plug i am sorry to say that.... we still have the legendary old brick wheyyyyyyy! lol we need to keep it to power the CPU! not like the ps3 running at fix voltage, it needs high electricity demand for hard core gamers (just like a gaming PC the bigger the power supply the faster the CPUs and GPUs run the better the gaming performance). on average ps3 freezes more than 360 as it cant extract enough voltage to run the nvidia gpu, games like errrrrrr eg assasins creed, no wonder there is not much cooling involved on it just like an ee-pc, we have got the gaming pcs while they have got the eeee-pc lol. dont worry about all the extra plug on the mother board they just for testing other components and to plug it on to pcs for testing so they wont be there when they are on sale this "autumn" what did i just say this autumn whatttt! summary: much thinner, much shorter much much much quieter its going to be epic! screw my ps3 my 360 is getting a new upgrade for cheaper screw 250 price tag for 160gb ps3 when i can get 250gb screw blue-ray when i can play 1080p with out going to the buy the disk screw blue ray dvd films when we got net flix. screw sony for wanting us to buy blue ray film in block buster. if we do have blue ray we can ditch ps3 why do we need 2 blue ray console? obviously 360 with blue ray is the shizel! but i rather stick to my HDD thank you very much. 5 star me people thanks for reading.
