Sony has pledged to avoid an avalanche of party game 'shovelware' being released for PS3 Move - calling the prospect "a concern".
Third-party releases on Wii have swamped the market in recent years - as critically acclaimed titles like Sega's MadWorld have been 'drowned out' at retail.
Sony Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde said the firm was working to ensure PS3 Move does not face the same problem.
"It's obviously a concern of ours as well," he told Joystiq. "But, we've taken advantage of the fact that it is a PS3. Sports Champions, for example, has been in development for a while. We're not announcing it yet, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the scope that's offered in that title.
"These are not just one-off, "hey, play table tennis for fun." There's an overall objective that crosses over all the different events in that title, and there's a lot of long-term play value in there."
I don't think move will have half the problems with shovelware the wii has for the following reasons.
1) the ps3 is much more difficult and expensive to develop games for than the wii.
2) It's currently not the most popular console. while as the wii is. Most of its shovelware problems are based on an the wii being the market leader and therefore many companies jump on with a me too attitude.
And its going to stop them how exactly. Console makers get money from every game sold on their platform whether its God of War or Imagine Babiz party 6.
Last time I heard people dont say no to free money.

I came here to post that oddly enough but I see I was beaten to the punch.
That's themain problem for me. If they don't release some " real"games for it I'm not guna buy it, I've had enough of the party games on thhe wii. I woulent mind if they patched a couple of games to support the move like resi 5 abd killzone. Socum 4 is a start but IMO it luks dumbed down to the previous ones, but i've only seen 1 video of it.
So many people on here knock the Move. Not me, i can't wait. I don't want a Wii. I'm happy with my PS3. I'm desperately trying to get my wife enthused about gaming and she's just not having it. However, she can see the appeal of a Wii and now my PS3 will be able to play the part as well as all the other fantastic things it's capable of.
I don't see how people can see Move as a negative. If you don't want it don't buy it. Sony isn't holding a gun to your head. Fair enough you may be worried about the amount crap ala Wii that ends up being produced for it but it won't stop / hinder developers from producing the usual 'hardcore' games and just adds another string to this already superior products bow.
In addition, i've read alot of comments about people saying 'it's going to be crap'. Have you tried it? No. So wait and see. Of course it's a blatant attempt on Sony's part to earn some of Nintendo's market share and why not. They'd be crazy not to.
Roll on Autumn. I know what i'm asking for for Christmas.
The idea of Sports Champions doesn't bother me too much, mainly because Wii Sports was one of my favourite Wii games, despite the simple approach.
The fact that Sony's games will most probably have online components, such as leaderboards and the usual online modes, already puts it ahead in my book.
If nothing else this is what should concern all devs. If a ton of crap games gets released every month, then it can only hurt the industry. It will turn new buyers off gaming all together if they feel they are getting burned(E.T. on Atari anyone?),and lessen the potential of good games to succeed. Gaming might be the biggest entertainment industry at the moment, but if its not careful with its direction for the future,it could very well go the way of the arcade industry.
While i agree that a massess of crap games are bad for the industry. to say that The games industry on the whole will go the way of arcades is just plain dumb. The arcade industry went belly up as a result of home gaming becoming much cheaper and easier than going to an arcade with games being to the same or better standard than there arcade counterparts.
It could crash again. An influx of poorly conceived junk was what brought it toppling down in the 80s. However it is also a much bigger industry now so it might should be able to weather storms a little better.
On a sort of relevant note though. Anyone else find it funny that MS and Sony seem to be promoting more casual games this year while Nintendo are definately catering to long time fans and the core.

Thing is, it's always been that way - this is not just something that's started happening since the Wii was released.
There have always been rubbish games that sell by the bucketload. The worst game that I've ever had the misfortune of playing was a big seller (Rise of the Robots) - then there are all the terrible movie license games that have always been stinking up the shelves.
There will always be people that will rely on a few pretty screenshots on the back of a box, rather than read a review - and, while those people continue to buy games, there will always be publishers looking to cash in.
On topic: Well, I guess we'll see. However, I do think that it'll be truly unusual if Sony don't allow the likes of Carnival Games on PS3, considering how much it has sold. Sony didn't get to be that big a company by knocking guaranteed revenue back.

wouldn't say it was dumb. The Arcade industry is still there,in cinemas, bowling allies etc, it's just that it dosnt really cater to hardcore gamers anymore. As you say whos gonna spend pound after pound to be master of a machine when you can get the same experience at home. But i used to love arcades as a kid. Going to places like blackpool and climbing into a starwars x wing c**kpit was really cool and made lots of friends in these places(really wanted a go on Segas R 360 looked mental but cost a fortune). By the time the mid 90s came arcades started catering more towards all this motion, dancemat simulation machines rather than games that gave you that,"just 1 more game. i know i can beat it" feeling. Arcades are full of games thats ideas will eventually make it to the home, motion control being 1 of them. Arcades could be a stomping ground for hardcore gamers once again if they intergrated with home consoles aswell. Imagine the clan wars.
I think i miss understood you. I read it that you were implying that the decline of the arcade had nothing to do with the rise of home consoles.
I remember going to the arcade a as kid too. I used to love playing Metal Slug and king of fighters. Its sad that they no longer really cater to gamers, but its the way the industry has evolved.
I think Sony would be wise to keep the party games as PSN only, the developers can then keep the costs down (no blu-ray) when developing their mini games for the family etc whilst the more hardcore/costly game is kept for a wider audience utilising the PS3's graphic capability. No-one wants to see copies of Wii games just with better graphics.
Thats cool monkey no foul. Just wonder what it would of been like if it had stuck with the hardcore rather than casual. Saw a good doc on youtube called chasing ghosts last week thats got me all nostalgic about 80s arcades lol. want to get a cabinet for myself now, maybe donkey kong or pacman. Try for some of those records lol. BTW for anybody who hasn't ever seen the SEGA R 360 google it,now tell me thats not a game machine that would get you in a arcade again. Not bad for early 90s,puts motion control in the shade lol.

I'd love to get into arcade cabinets, but they seem to be more expensive now than they ever were.
I once had the chance to get a SF2 cabinet for about Ł100 - no chance of that now.
One day, I will own that hydraulic Space Harrier cab....oh yes, it will be mine.

Your not wrong there! The new limited edition 25th aniversary pac mans knockin on 3 grand and good knick originals about 1 and 2 grand. There is some good sites that offer DIY kits for a fraction of that(if your after a new hobby) And you can have hundreds run on 1 cabinet(just make sure the control panel matches closely the game button config) and your away.
Got ideas floating round my head for making a cab for gt5. could be cool if i can afford to implement everything in my head(motion tracking/bucket seat/beer fridge maybe a smokin pipe built into the roof for calming hits/7.1 sound and eventually 3D. Doubt it but we will see.
ARS Technica's thoughts on playing SOCOM 4 with the PS Move... http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/03/socom-4-played-with-playstation-move-our-thoughts.ars
As long as the PS Move supports the core gamer, offers motion control in games for core gamers and offers an alternative for "Operation Wolf" style / light gun type games, then I see no problem with that.
What I am intrigued to see how well devs will support it. I mean, they struggle to make decent motion stuff for the Wii and resort to the shovelware we're all talking about (cos in my opinion they're just not smart enough to make something new and different). What sets this apart other than better graphics? We're just going to get HD shovelware now? Cos we have plenty of that with all the FPS junk and other crap out there now already
It didnt happen on Eyetoy (11 million units sold) and Sony kept a tight restriction on the games released for it. Lets hope they do the same for Move.
?? All the games involving the Eyetoy are nothing but crap. Shovelware or not, and just like the Wii it's a novelty that will wear off just as quickly.
The same goes for Natal but at least there is more scope for more innovation to keep it fresher for longer.
If everything (including sports champions) has good online functionality, it might actually be decent. However, I myself am still much more interested in traditional means of controlling my ps3.
