Activision's released the first screenshots and details for its new True Crime, which was originally announced last year.
After a five-year break, the free-roaming crime-em-up returns this autumn in a "more serious" entry, according to developer United Front (which is also working on ModNation Racers).
The Hong Kong-set instalment follows the hijinks of undercover cop, Wei Shen as he aims to infiltrate and bust a dangerous triad. Firefights, car chases and kung-fu kicks follow.
The instalment's recreation of Hong Kong is described as "accurate", with more than 27,000 photographs used for reference. However, though it looks similar United Front is keen to stress that the city has been "tuned for gameplay", which probably means there'll be some stunt ramps stuck at the end of particularly large streets.
This is probably as close to GTA: Hong Kong as we'll ever get. More soon.
I must admit that I grow less and less excited by sandbox games with every passing one.
I don't know, there are certainly some good ones on the horizon - the reviews look very positive for Just Cause 2 (not tried the demo yet) and Read Dead Redemption is looking very good.

I'm sure that they'll both be fun, but I'm sure that both of those games would soon become tiresome if they relied on being 'open world' games too much.
I mean, how much fun can riding a horse for miles be? Not much, I'd wager.
Also, the demo for Just Cause 2 sort of put me off the game, to be honest. The main character was poorly realised, the driving seemed a bit slack and shooting was last-gen stuff.
The only fun part of the demo was shooting the gas cannisters and watching them rocket into the sky. For 10 minutes.

Well, I'm a bit of a sandbox fan - but, I know what you mean.
I'll certainly be giving JC2 a go, but I am really looking forward to RDR - I'm a sucker for a Western.
wouldn't really call RDR a sandbox, even if it has that layout.
its an open-world shooter.
the unwritten rules for sandboxe games is that they need automobiles.
horseback doesn't cut it.
and just cause 2 looks gimmicky and shite.
roll on rockstars next two sandboxes.
nuff said.
Sandbox means having a map and getting to do whatever you want without explicitly having missions to complete (like a child in a sandbox). Pharaoh and Simcity have sandbox modes
Why do people keep going on about gta when this is different and unique. Thats like saying every sandbox game is gta with a different face. Saints row 1 and 2 were in some aspects better than gta
im looking forward to this as i throughly enjoyed the last two games in the series
The original was ok, and the sequel was absolutely awful. This looks good so far and I do really like the new setting, but I think I'll wait to see more before taking any risks.
I personally thought the sequel was much better than the original, there were more things to do aside from the story itself. The first one was returned to the shops within hours. TC3 looks like it could be an improvement but not by much. The screenshots make the game look lifeless.
Aw, dude! I remember back in '07 walking around in downtown Central, near the HSBC building, thinking how amazing it'd be if somebody made this game!
I've never been one for GTA games or anything similar. The only sandbox game that ever grabbed me and didn't let go was Spider-Man 2, but this game is exciting!
