Test Drive Unlimited 2 announced

See screens of PS3, 360 and PC title here
Atari will release Test Drive Unlimited 2 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this year, the publisher has announced.

The title has been developed by Eden Games, and 'expands on the traditional racing experience providing gamers with M.O.O.R.: Massively Open Online Racing'.

As well as this online racing, TDU2 will feature vehicle damage, weather effects, day and night cycles, and a brand new island to explore.

"After the highly successful Test Drive Unlimited which redefined the genre with massively open online racing, Test Drive Unlimited 2 will be an innovative evolution in racing games, expanding its unparalleled multiplayer experience and immersing players in a world full of new online content and lifestyle customization." said Jeff Lapin, CEO of Atari, SA.

"The game fits squarely into our strategy of moving online and generating new revenue streams while maintaining our current retail business."

Players can define their online persona through the customisation of their vehicles, and the acquisition of property, clothing and more.

Check out the upcoming issues of Official PlayStation Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine for exclusive first looks at Atari's game.

If it can improve upon the first Game (like the Devs say) then this could be a real cracker of a Game!

Ah, Test Drive Unlimited. I've fond memories of playing this with a real life friend on Xbox live. We owned virtual apartments just around the corner from each other, would meet up, and just set off on a 'follow the leader' type journey. Whoever lead at any particular moment would determine whether or not to turn at the next junction, usually at the very last second. We never set a particular destination or anything, we just took random routes around the island. Good times.

If they can remove the "50 pence piece" road modelling, I am sold.

TDU was a great game, but the shoddy modelling of the roads let it down.

i mind seeing the first game (as my first HD game) while on magic mushies.

retina-burning colours, bright orange lamborghini ripping through lush tropical highways.

great experience. game was good too.

will be getting this unless something catastrophic goes wrong with it.

I loved this game too. I manage to finish everything but it took me ages. The driving the models around made me laugh but some of the challenges were brutal.

Il keep a close eye on the new one.

And there i was complaioning that it was a slow news day on games, then i hear my beloved TDU is coming back - YEEEEEEEEEES. Definitely one of my fave games i have bought for my 360 without doubt. something different then all these other driving games that u just drive round tracks over and over. riding around the island in a 15 man ruff ryder crew on bikes was absolutely brilliant - definitely good times, just hope u can cut off abusive racist people from your chat easier then in the first one

YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I loved TDU, all of my friends hated it but one, me n that dude would just blitz round the island every chance we got. Loved it.

Great news. Love this game. You could meet up with friends and just drive for fun around the island, a real good community. The one race track near the airport is where you settled some scores. I still play it now and again. Due to Atari closing its french office a while back, it slowed down the progress of DLC packs, and ultimately TD2. But hey its coming back. Defo get this one.

Wonder where it will be? Hopefully a new place like Taiwan or Jamacia or something. Hope that the cars handle a bit better when off road - Atari must surely be aware that most players want to drive to the top of mountains and stuff. Hopefully they'll make it truly open. Not too bottomd about vehicle damage but weather and especially day & night cycles are welcome in my book.. Cant wait for this!
