American Heavy Rain players have been reporting issues with game freezes.
Worse than that, the official PlayStation forums thread where the problems are being reported has also seen some players reporting corrupted save data.
It's hard to know how widespread the problem is, as almost every high profile release seems to have some players reporting similar issues, but the problem is big enough to warrant the appearance of a Sony rep to calm everyone down.
"Hi folks, this is just to let you know that the issues reported in this thread and elsewhere are being looked into," he says.
"One word of advice we've had already is to avoid switching off your PlayStation while the game is in black screen as this may be affecting your save game. There have been a few reports of incidents where game saves have taken longer than would normally be expected - and with a black screen present it may leave the assumption that the game has crashed. In these circumstances we recommend you wait at least 5 minutes before rebooting."
So if you have read our Heavy Rain review and decided to pick up a copy when the game hits stores this Friday, heed those words of advice.
Anyway, lets see if this affects the PAL release too. It could just be limited to the USA relesae, hopefully I'll find out today as I got an email yesterday saying that Play had already put my copy in the post.

Like Gambini said. Those games all got great scores regardless if you like them or not. At least Sony try something different with their own exclusives, unlike M$ who just shove a new Halo, Gears of War, Forza or Fable in our faces every couple or so years. Besides, its not like those games (a generic FPS, a glitchy shooter and another average game from Mr Overhyped among them) are worth the praise and scores they get

Really hope this doesn't effect UK release, screen freezes are bane of my gaming life, gave up on Fallout3 on PS3 because of them, even had a freeze in Uncharted 2 in later stages. Began to wonder if it was a faulty console I had but its only a very few games it happens with. It does sound like a save problem rather than screen problem though. I'll wait till price drops for mine. I hate having to get a patch to make the game work properly though, I buy a cd and get the finished product, same with a dvd/film, I fully expect a game on the shop shelves to be finished. Gaming companies seem to get away with it though.
One pitfall of the popularity of the internet. Developers take their foot off the gas when it comes to quality. Release a game with a few bugs knowing they can patch at a later date. It should be perfect from the start. It had to be when games were on cartridge and CD etc. But I guess games are much more complex now. They have a tougher job.

Ha ha, no its just that I don't see anything in them that is remotely interesting. All their products on the whole are average or of less quality (including their service). The fact they pat themselves a little too much on the back too is even more daft considering how average their product is.
I'm not saying I never had fun with my 360 at the time. I did. But those games (their exclusives) for me grow boring very quickly and I don't care so much for online gaming on the whole anymore(especially when paying for it). Most of the games for it bar Dead Rising I can get for the PS3 if I so choose in the future. I was just saying that Sony's (and even Nintendo's) exclusives are more varied and interesting. M$'s games don't really push the bar of imagination enough for me

Forza is brilliant. I've been making my way through it over the past few weeks (slowly, I might add) and I'm really enjoying it. I'm not going to get into the whole debate about whether it'll be better than Gran Turismo though.
I do agree about games being ready on release. My brother owned a PS3 for a while and found all these updates tiresome - it was pretty much the only complaint he had about the console, but I think it'd bug me too. I'm just not sure why the PS3 can't have the same update system as XBox Live, where they literally take seconds.

I was in the same boat but was going to get it due to it being something a little different to the norm, and lets face it you can trade it in after a couple of weeks or so and not lose too much cash on it. But dont think i will be getting it now due to some artard on here who left a huge spoiler pretty much ruining the point of murder mystery game for me really.

Yeah, I've been filled with doubts since playing the demo and reading some reviews/opinions. IGN's second opinion article has me concerned, as one them mentioned the game is great up until the end, when it leaves some big plot-holes.
I'd have cancelled my order if it wasn't for the CE from HMV to be honest, as it comes with the first DLC chapter free if you pre-order.

stop sitting on the fence and be part of something that actually matters in gaming, something very rarely done. something that makes you happy and the next scene makes you cry.
it may not be a game in a traditional sense, you don't jump on people to kill them or shoot "bitches" in the face. but what is here is a game, a journey and an experience.
the first hour alone got my adrenaline up sky high and gave me genuine feel of what having a family of my own would be like.
I never enjoyed indigo prophecy much so i know what to expect with this. I think waiting a bit before i play it will help sort out some of the teething problems it seems to have as well.
I'm slightly put off by a couple of very poor reviews of it of late as well. The 2 sites that gave it a terrible review are not that well known(got the link from metacritic), but then again there's a bucketload of good scores for it from sites i've never heard of as well. It only got 7/10 in Edge magazine as well, i usually like their reviews.

Yeah i agree if the spoiler was true then its pretty stupid twist but at the same time i did play Fahrenheit so maybe some truth in it, guess the only way i will find out is getting the game as i really dont want to search the internet about it and ruin any twists completely.
I was pretty stupid to read comments in the review section but wanted to gage opinion and how it related to other reviews wasn't expecting the ending to have been potentially given away to me. Shame as its really split me on whether to get the game now when it was previously a certain buy.

Have to agree, i mean i just don't see the point in collecting cars to store in my garage. Am sure online is great but racers should be moving forward in single player - i thought Toca Racing Driver did a good job for others to build on storywise etc alas no-one has picked up the batton.
For me an F1 game including all the controversies that go with it story wise would be fab, having a team mate that hates you and constant pressure on testing sessions to develope your car and catch up with ur rivals etc. tho am probably in the minority and others want to see shinier cars and better weather effects.

----I have the update!---- I can confirm that the update is 226MB, and it took me 4 minutes on my Virgin 10mb Connection at 1:15pm. I encounted no problems installing, loading, saving or playing the game on my 60gig PS3.
As for the game, its ace! Can't wait to finish work and get stuck in. Roll on 5pm.

220mb patch this is why Sony should stick to making hardware the update process is such a joke on the PS3 . The maximum update allowed for any 360 game is 4mb.
If only there was something that somebody somewhere could do to fix this most heinous problem! Perhaps a method of somehow, say releasing a small self-executing file to "patch in" fixed code over the problematic, broken parts...

filtymonkey, shut up you assclown. i've got the game, there is a 220mb update as soon as you load it up and trust me, there are no issues at all having played it for most of the morning. always trying to find something to fanboy about in here.
220mb patch this is why Sony should stick to making hardware the update process is such a joke on the PS3 . The maximum update allowed for any 360 game is 4mb.
I thought the limitation on 360 patches was due to the fact that not everyone has an over priced hard drive

So many asswipes to choose from...I'll pick you, firstly, I own both machines and I just happen to prefer the Xbox. It's not fanboyism but if you want to pideon hole me thats fair enough. The only reason I'm holding on to the PS3 is for God of War 3 and not the likes of MAG & White Knight Chronicles which have only received mediocre reviews.

I'm not playing a half-finished game, and with various glitches in the game aswell as this.. It is starting to worry me how lazy Quantum may have been in the Games Testing stage.

I have seen before that when preorders run out it's removed from the website. Once it's the day of release you get more unreserved stock. When that's used up they don't remove it, just say "out of stock". Kinda like they don't want to say "out of stock" for a product that isn't yet released.

If this is the case (and yeah, I agree about the out of stock thing, they don't actual delist just back-order it) However if this is the case it has to be one of the serious gaming flops of the previous years... I mean so much hype and excitement surrounding this game.. Only to fall down on its feet due to bugs.

I've phoned my local Game and they say they have got the copies instore ready to put on the shelves. However another local game store said they have copies but have been told not to put them on the self until they get confirmation from head office. Hmmm the plot thickens.

I am not reading all there comments in this thred as it is the same story everywhere. Fangirls moaning at each other and comparing who ahs the smallest penis. Truth is no one cares and yes I own both PS3 and 360 because I can. I don't own a WII as it is not for me but I don't troll on WII games. Grow up kids.
Anyway back on topic. Most new games these days come out with people having some kind of issue with them so there is no surprise here and I think a simple patch will fix the issue. I will be buying this a week after it comes out and I see this as a good thing as it gives them time to make a patch just in case.
all these issues with console games has only started to happen since they were connected to the internet allowing developers to release unfinished games & then try & solve the problems once customers are having problems with a game they have paid for yet doesn't work, console gamers are now having the same problems PC gamers have been having for years with game patches, updates, firmware & drivers etc.
if a game doesn't work straight out of the box customers should be entitled to send the game back to the developer/manufacture with proof of purchase & get a full refund by law, that way they would make dam sure that the games works on a standard system like a PS3 or Xbox.

Sony needs to get this sorted. I got the patch and its a great game, but this will really hurt both QD and Sony if this is not sorted by the end of the week.
got my copy from GAME this morning, played 6 hours straight and no problems here, no lock ups, slight bit of screen tearing, but thats been it, but loving it so far.

He's going to put me through to his superior in networking.
This guy is a little better but still useless. I explain to him that I feel irate for purchasing a product that lets me play for a few hours and then freezes and won't let me load my save game.
"Is it a patchable issue or a corrupted save game?" - Me He doesn't know.
"If it's a game issue, once 'they've' been made aware of a problem the developer will probably patch it soon." - Network guy I had already assumed this and it does nothing for me.
"If it's on the developer to fix the problem, then why is their faulty product being sold by Sony?" - Me No answer.

I think its innovative and great and if I wasn’t so deeply involved with the characters and story I could probably put it down for a couple of weeks and not care. But that’s just not the case and dammit I’m upset and I have a right to be. I just dealt with all of that MAG server nonsense a couple of weeks ago, but I digress.
If we let this stand we’re letting Sony know that it’s alright to release buggy unfinished products and not only will we put up with it, we’ll even pay for it. It’s time to let them know, that it’s not right. As loyal and (most importantly) paying customers, we deserve better.
I hope everyone reads my personal experience and is motivated to inundate the he!! out of Sony with phone calls (1-800-345-7669), e-mails and forum posts until these problems with Heavy Rain are fixed.

I decided to take the risk and can say it hasn't frozen on me yet, I've just reached the part in the demo where you play as the FBI agent.
I did have a few glitches, one when you're looking after your son; he went to grab some crisps and got stuck in the table and I had to restart. The audio also cut out a few times in the beginning, but it seems to be better now.
Lastly (and the biggest problem for me), is the load times. This game has the longest load times I've experienced this gen, which really doesn't help the overall game experience.
just finished up the game. didnt freeze once. great game, go buy it. only thing about it is i dont c myself playing it again. its a great story, but when u know what happens at the end, theres no point playing it again imo.
Just to let Aussie gamers know that I've picked up a copy of the game and I haven't had one freeze or issue with the game and I would say that I've just about finished it as well.

I dunno you can pick up a Megadrive quite cheaply these days.
Taken me 4 attempts to download the update as it kept giving me an error message everytime it went to install. Tried playing it without the update and at the start of every scene the sound was out of sync and the picture would judder. Finally got the update and it sorted all that out. So far the games only froze up on me once through about 3 hours of play and that was at the end of the crime scene section that was in the demo.
Loving it so far, such a different type of game, but i have to say its pretty shocking that they let the game go out in such a state that anyone without access to the update may have to put up with the problems i've noted above.
Sony and MS really need to start cracking down on developers that release games with such glaring errors. Start hitting them with fine's for these updates and maybe we'll start seeing some games that are actually complete on release.

You know what, I'm not even remotely concerned in getting involved in a flame war of fanboy fight (dont see the point personally, who gives a fu*k which console is this and that as long as YOU like it) but I imagine the reason you get 360 fans commenting here is thus...
Xbox players have put up with crap from Sony fanboys for so long about RROD and reliability issues. So to see a famed PS3 exclusive fail (I mean come on, 200MB patch on its release. I dont care if its a game on Xbox, PS3, PC, Wii, that's crap) I imagine for some its simply payback time. But if you cant take what you give out.....
Its not a bad idea but to an extent Sony and MS are the casue of problems like this. They want the games out as soon as possible, ship dates must be met and they do fine companies for not making those.

More Arguments and put downs by Xbox fans and PS3 fans.HILARIOUS!. All ofcourse based on 'facts' being shouted about by both sets of 'fans' or as i like to call them 'Console Hooligans'. Both bad mouth eachothers games, because of a certain score they have been given by a person with and 'Expert Opinion'. Yet if a game on Xbox gets a higher score than the same game does on PS3 then they are used, to say that its another game better on Xbox than on PS3. But how is a game 'better' on 1 console than the other?.
It seems to me alot of the 'Experts' with their 'opinions' are just that. And like every one of us on here. We all seem to think we are an 'expert' and give our own views, but mostly it is used on here to belittle a owner of the opposite to what you have. Aswell as that, Some people who own an Xbox360 say how bad the PS3 games are, without even buying a PS3 in the 1st place, so those opinions are just viod and childish, because they havent experienced what the other person has and uses their 'Blind' intellect to form an opinion on a system or even a game they havent even tried. Ofcourse this happens the other way around too.
I don't like the Final Fantasy games, never have done and never will. But does it mean it's a bad game? just like alot on here talking about the likes of Gears of war, Heavy Rain, Killzone ect. Just because its not your 'thing' doesnt mean its a bad game or 'Laughable' as some have put it.
This is where I and everyone else who own both Consoles WIN, in this type of situation.
I like PS3 because it is free online and Games like Killzone are very good online. It isnt as good as XBOX 360 online, but it gets the job done with minimal fuss and i have never had a problem.
I like PS3 because they try something new and push new concepts and different genres, with Equal skill and Enthusiasm as they do with already established games, like Heavy Rain, Motorstorm and my Favourite, Little Big Planet.
I like PS3 because of the Huge Memory space it has for me to Put all my MP3's on aswell as pictures and Movies. Ofcourse, I can't forget my TV recordings. The Web browser is also a nice touch to overall a fantastic Console. I can watch BluRay DVD's with fantastic sound and Great Picture.
I Like Xbox 360, because with Exclusives like Halo, Forza, Mass Effect ect, they put more work into each one (apart From ODST, what was the point?) to make the Game more 'current' and just as good, even better than the last game.
I like Xbox 360 because The Online play is brilliant, even for £40, it is still worth it and if i can be assed, Talking s**t down the Mic of thge headset is a little fun, yet juvenile.
I Like Having both because Each System compliments eachother. They BOTH have great exclusives in their own right And BOTH run fantastically well. If ones self has one without the other, you are missing out. Don't bother preaching 'loyalty', its aload of rubbish, you can be equally loyal to both.
I also Have a Wii and a PC. Yes i feel lucky, but all systems are great. Wii is great for a laugh with mates/Girlfriend, or even Family members. I love getting my Wii out when a Group of people come over because it is fun. Just like you can on every other system. They all are Made for the purpose of enjoyment, not for Petty arguments and Put downs.
Get them ALL if you can and you can appreciate each quality they ALL bring.

On its release lots of people have complained about saved gamed corruptions and crashes. How is that not fail.

You misundertand. What I said (or meant) is that Xbox fans can lol at Sony fans after lots fo abuse coming the other way due to RROD, etc. I never said I supported this viewpoint I said I'm not suprised it happens.
one question: how long does it take to complete this game. considering it only came out today I'm kinda disgusted that people have completed it already. It looked like it was a real long, engaging game!!!

God of war is the old ps2 games with a slight facelift(just emulated games). Hardly anything new.
Bayonetta is indeed on the ps3, but it's nowhere near as good as the 360 version.
So out the original high scoring retail games so far in 2010 we've got:
360: Mass effect 2 96% Bayonetta 90% Bioshock 2 88%
Ps3: Bioshock 2 88% Heavy rain 88% Bayonetta 86%
By my understanding, the 360 is ahead quite clearly there. Although the mighty peggle may take some stopping.

Yeah, Xbox 360 has the brilliant Mass effect 2, no argument. Played a bit and want lol.
I was responding to a post which struck me as WTF lol they included Bayonetta and Bioshock 2 as Xbox exclusive games so I equally done a WTF on Peggle. I've never played it and don't plan to and I was aware it's on Xbox 360 (just like the 2 games they mentioned are on PS3) which is why I included it.
Bayonetta was built on Xbox tech and it took a bit of a hit when translated to PS3 (only slight though) which gave the game a lesser score in reviews.
However, another, similar game, built on PS3 tech is looking unbelievable, going by the name of God of War 3, I feel if put on Xbox 360 it would be somewhat limited (probably more so than Bayonetta on PS3) but its an exclusive and should deliver some great reviews.
If we're truly honest then the list this year would look like:
360: Mass Effect 2 96%
Ps3: Heavy Rain 88%
Not a bad start for either console.
Looking forward to God of War 3, Alan Wake, Gran Turismo and Halo Reach!!
