David Jaffe: I don't care about reviews like I used to

Twisted Metal creator says he doesn't 'connect' with the opinions of modern critics
God Of War creator David Jaffe has revealed that he no longer "connects" with specialist press review scores - and prefers reading fan feedback online.

Speaking to The Official PlayStation Magazine (UK), Jaffe said that games journalists are "going out of their way to praise the artistic for its own sake at the expense of video games".

He added: "Don't get me wrong - a good review makes my night, but I no longer find myself connecting with what a lot of reviewers go for and so it doesn't matter as much to me any more."

Jaffe's rumoured to be hard at work on a new Twisted Metal game, but he's yet to confirm the whispers.

UPDATE:We've clarified the original headline of this article - 'David Jaffe: I don't care about reviews' - after the man himself had a bit of a pop at it on his blog. It's okay: We can take it on the chin.

We felt that the previous headline was a fair short-form interpretation of his comments to OPM - but we're not in the business of misrepresenting people. So to be clear: Mr Jaffe does care about reviews of his games - especially when they're good ones. Just not as much as he used to.

I say good on you Jaffe. There are very few reviewers I even trust anymore. Most of the big magazines and websites talk so much bulls**t these days anyway due to all sorts of issues rather than if the game is any good or not!

The way reviews are done is terrible. I never read them because they are always bull%$#@. The only reviews I trust & always 100% agree with are Dave Halverson's from PLAY magazine. They also don't use scores, which is the best idea ever....

I no longer read reviews myself (Ngamer is the exception), the main problem nowadays is reviewers review games differently to what they are, seriously I don't give a s**t if a jrpg doesn't play like a wrpg because chances are I'm after a jrpg, what I want is an analysis on how it stands up to OTHER jrpg's, it's just gotten to the point where I can no longer trust reviewers 90% of the time.

Reviews haven't meant anything since CVG (magazine) stopped using High 5 ratings! Crying or Very sad

Personally I do care about reviews. But I tend to go onto gamerankings.com and look for the worst reviews of a game, because rather than brown nose all the good aspects of a game I'd rather know about the bad aspects of it and if i'm still excited about a game after reading about all its problems I know its a game for me.

The only site I tend to trust over others is gamecritics.com because they are brutally honest in their opinions (with opinions being the important word).

I like PSM3's reviews, they will never give a PS3 exclusive a high score just because its exclusive. FFXIII got a 70. Also they have never in their history given a game a perfect score which i like.
