Activision signs Pokemon rival

Publisher acquires rights to Gogo's Crazy Bones, CVG reveals
Activision is to release video games based on the Gogo's Crazy Bones franchise after agreeing an exclusive licensing deal, CVG can reveal.

Gogo's Crazy Bones
has enjoyed huge popularity as a collectible children's toy - with shops struggling to meet demand on both sides of the Atlantic. The franchise is widely seen as second only to Pokemon in the collectible toy market.

CVG understands that Activision has signed an contract with the toy's creator, Magic Box International, with a view to releasing games on Nintendo formats.

The US publisher is thought to be keen to replicate some of Nintendo's own success with its multi-million-selling Pokemon software on DS.

Created by a Spanish family in the mid-1990s, Gogo's Crazy Bones has more recently won status as a bona fide 'craze' - with some UK schools banning the figures.

Its popularity shows no signs of stopping. A UK magazine, GoGo's Crazy Bones Mega Metropolis, launched earlier this year.

There are hundreds of plastic Gogo's characters available - with each set of three costing around 99p. Rare figures are also on sale as an incentive to keep on collecting.

CVG has contacted Activision for comment.

Oh Activision, if you weren't sniffing your own farts all the time beacuse you think your all that then maybe you would like to remember the massive clusterf*** that was Digimon and Viva Pinatas unsucceful attempts at de-throwning the unstoppable might that is Pokemon. The thing has been going for about 15 years now and isnt showing any signs of going (unless every single staff member of Nintendo is miraculasly assisnated at the same time) so you should just stick with your Cod and plastic Geetars. Wow, possibly the longest rant ive ever posted Shocked

Pokemon has been a cultural phenomenon since the day it launched in Japan. It's become the most successful videogame franchise ever created and has sold over 210 million games worldwide. This is the first time i have even HEARD of "Go Go Crazy Balls" yet Activision are thinking they're going to see the same level of success? Oh dear........

Pokemon HG/SS are the biggest RPG releases this year by far. Launching to a fan base that eclipses anything Fallout or Final Fantasy can gather, how on earth does ANY developer ANYWHERE in the world think they can create a game that can achieve the quality or sales success of Pokemon? The only games out there that sell as consistently well as Pokemon would be Grand Theft Auto or Gran Turismo. Activision aren't going to come close.
