Motorola to break in two

Motorola Inc. will split in two in the first quarter of 2011, combining the mobile-phone and set-top box divisions into one publicly traded company and the enterprise mobility and networks units into a second business.

LONDON -- Facebook has deleted the pages of 30 U.K. prisoners at the request of the British government, the justice minister announced Thursday, after several incidents in which inmates reportedly used the Internet to plot with criminals and intimidate victims.

Motorola has new plan to split itself apart

Motorola has come up with a new plan to split itself apart that calls for the Schaumburg-based cellphone giant to auction off its division that makes cable-TV set-top boxes, and spin off its cell-phone and wireless equipment units, according to a Wall Street Journal report Wednesday.

Local nonprofit teaches youth skills for tech jobs
Beatrice Elizalde had given up her honor-student status four years ago to offer emotional support to her mother, who had just become a caregiver to Elizalde's maternal grandmother. Elizalde wanted to make enough money to return to college to get her bachelor's degree when she spotted an ad with the enticing question, "Do you want to get paid to learn?" She didn't realize she was walking into a life-changing experience at i.c. stars, a Chicago nonprofit dedicated to teaching promising young people to become community leaders and technologically skilled professionals.

Facebook launches redesign on 6th birthday
Facebook is redesigning its site yet again, this time to better emphasize applications, games and search. Links and items have moved around the home page as Facebook tries to streamline navigation and make games and apps stand out more.
