Google has unveiled its latest social network, which it's calling Buzz, though it's got nothing to do with Sony's quiz game.
Google's new Buzz project is integrated directly with its Gmail service and allows users to post status updates, share content and read and comment on friends posts.
Buzz will aim to capitalise on the number of regular Gmail users, which is currently around 170 million people, says the BBC.
Google Buzz product manager Todd Jackson described it as "an entirely new world in Gmail" during the grand unveiling at Google HQ.
The firm has also integrated Buzz apps for phones running its operating system Android. The BBC says status updates sent from phones will record the location of the sender and add it to the message.
"You can see what people in your neighbourhood are saying," said Google's Vic Gundotra.
But is it enough to lure you away from stalking all those Facebook updates at lunchtime though?
Strikes me odd that people think it's not relevant news, considering that Facebook is now, for many people, a major gaming platform and this is trying to take a slice out of it.
