Capcom has told its investors that it is ready to produce 3D games - and is looking into which titles would work with the technology.
A Capcom spokesperson told investors during a Q&A; last night:
"We can produce 3D games now from a technological standpoint. Although we are prepared to start research involving some titles, our decision about adding 3D to games will be made from a strategic perspective."
Capcom produces games series such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Monster Hunter and Dino Crisis.
Which 3D Capcom titles would you most like to see, readers?
I'd like em to get Devil May Cry and Resi back to their best before they just slap 3D on it. I loved the first couple of Devil May Cry's and loved Resi (but hated 5)
I am still in need of a Onimusha RPG game, but a 3D fighting title based on the series would be great! Also Resident Evil in 3D with zombies (Hear that CAPCOM - Zombies) jumping out of the screen would be great. Oh and while Capcom ponders 3D, I would like more details on the Resident Evil PSP title please.
fighting games need a new edge. as good as SF4 was, i'd done it all before.
3D could add something, maybe make the hitboxes more accurate, allow fighters to get much closer for longer and trade hits/counter/block more effectively.

who knows.
I do not think fighting games work well in 3D, especially precision based ones like Street Fighter 2. They have been tried and have been enjoyable while not ever getting close the the genius of the 2D games. There are so many games that do not work in 3D (just look at worms) so I am a very happy gamer now that the industry is realising this and are going back to 2D (and the gorgeous artwork that I miss so much) for some games.
