Facebook is set to see its own 3D first-person shooter released, in the form of "social shooter" Brave Arms.
Created by indie dev 3G Studios (which did SWAT: Target Liberty on PSP), the Facebook FPS will allow players to create and customize their avatars and then play against Facebook buddies in 3D environments.
Interested parties can reserve their slot on the upcoming public beta right here.
"Our new title, Brave Arms, will bring First-Person Shooter games to the masses," said 3G Studios boss, James Kosta. "It's about fast-paced action and either competing against or forming teams with your friends. We want people to feel empowered and to share in a real video game experience."
If you can paste your mates' faces onto avatars - and then shotgun them into oblivion - we're in.
A first-person shooter played through a web browser? Is that correct? What kind of framerate or key/mouse response would that give? I'm amazed. An RPG type game I could understand. But a game that requires quick response and the lowest amount of lag will die a death instantly if it's not compareable to console and PC versions of this game type... wouldn't it?

Quake live works great through a browser. You can play in the browser window or switch to full screen swhich is the best of course. You can't even tell it is browser based, they have done such a good job of it. Looks like these guys are having a bash too. Tooks quite promising aswell.
Quake live works well, but is much more simplistic in its textures and what not than what this looks to be like. I don't really think that control latency will be a problem with this, at least they'll spend time perfecting it. But then again, i doubt the casual facebook masses care about twitch perfect FPS through their browser. It'll a quick laugh/distraction at most.
If so, that's amazing. I'm sure it'll be no COD beater, but, I think we've all had moments on f/b where you just sit there doing nothing. This should replace this nothingness
Quake live isn't browser based. It's launched from a browser and the match making is done from there but the game runs in it's own environment. For a more 'in browser' 3d-experience you'll want to look at the Unity engine. The best looking project (not developed by unity themselves) is called Interstellar Marines and there are some demos on their site.
Ive never bothered to play many games on facebook, i have £300 consoles for that. also, id be interested to see a twitter game, just lots of people telling others how their day was and praying to god people are listening. Sort of like these comments then.
