The Aliens Vs. Predator multiplayer demo is now available to download on Xbox Live and Steam.
The multiplayer demo gives access to all three species - the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien - and Deathmatch mode on Refinery, one of the game's multiplayer maps.
A PlayStation 3 demo is due to arrive on PSN this afternoon.
link to demo posted in the other thread. Doesn't seem to have gone down well with the PC community, i can't comment till after work. looking forward to the other game modes though much more than deathmatch

Yeah alot of folk bitchin about no dedicated servers, match making and no ping checking. Though have been alot of good comments also. Will have to wait till after work to see for myself, going to download the 360 & PC versions. I feel species team deathmatch should of been the way to go with the demo rather than just deathmatch, but oh well.
played the demo last night on the pc, cant say that im impressed. what a hassle it was to get a game going,"unable to connect" messages. no dedicated servers is a nono
just downloading this now. I think that with agame like this there is going to be so much mixed opinion, and think the single player games are going to settle better with gamers.
think multiplayer is going to change a lot over time with this......
It's pretty good actually. I've only played as an alien so far, but I enjoyed it & didn't have any problems joining a game.
Once you master the controls, running around at breakneck speed as the alien is pretty cool. While sprinting it looks like the first person POV used in Alien 3. Transitioning from wall to wall is a little tricky & can be a little disorientating at times, but with a little practice I'm sure it will be more fluent.
Creeping up behind a marine, grabbing him & then plunging your second set of nashers into the back of his skull is as much fun as it sounds.
As the marine the movement seems really clunky, and the inability to aim (which is standard these days) is a bit of a disappointment, also the pulse rifle seems to lack 'weight' when fired.
Playing as the Alien was more fun, if tricky to master the movement to begin with, the way you can change from floor to wall to ceiling works well though, and the finishing moves were fairly cool. It does genuinely give the feel of playing as a xenomorph. Unfortunately there is only one mode available at the moment - standard deathmatch, I would imagine team deathmatch to be more enjoyable, loads of people playing as aliens on one team and a small number of marines fighting them off.
The graphics look extremely dated, even on max settings, however they weren't helped by the incredibly boring map available in the demo.
I for one will definitely be waiting for single player reviews (or demo?) before purchasing based on this demo
Had a quick dabble of the demo on 360 (d/lin PS3 as we speak) and I must say it's pretty good.
Very hard to get used to and I never realised how to do the predators jump until it was too late but a good game.
D/M is VERY intense even with just those 8 players and as the Marine...well you will never be top of the table put it that way, they are the bitches of the game.
Alien very hard to use but as soon as you get used to use RT/2 to attach and detach from surfaces it gets easier.
Well I downloaded the demo on steam and it cant seem to find a game to join which is a concern as I pre ordered it on PC for £17 at Zavvi. Thinking of cancelling the order now, as I also downloaded it on PS3 and although it took a couple of minutes to find a game, its not as bad as the Steam one..
Played some more of it now. I pwn as an alien. 27 kills. I did okay as a marine too, came second. It's pretty tense as the marine though & you definitely felt like the hunted. You can't see sod all either. You have to rely heavily on the motion tracker & keep checking the ceiling for sneaky aliens. ¬_¬
Still not had a go as the Predator yet. It only allows two of them in one match & everyone goes to pick him straight away.

The problem is that the demo doesnt have dedicated servers, but as far am im aware the full version is to have dedicated servers so should be much easier.
I'll get the demo as soon as I get home I think. Nice to have a demo of a game out before release for once. Developers don't seem to bother too often anymore.
Can't comment on the actual game itself as I have spent the last hour and a half trying to connect to a game, any game without success on my PC. So from that point of view all I can say is epic fail. The connection screen gives you no details what so ever of what is going on, it's a shocker.
If you can't connect (PC) try reconnecting, it worked for me. As for the demo, i know its not fully functional but in terms of just the demo alone the demo is really bad! I was predator, and couldn't change species.

You can change species, but it uses an open/close slot system, if other players are all the same species, then you won't be able to switch unless they do, I think its Pred - 2 max, Alien - 3-4 max, Marine - 2-3 max. It's silly for deathmatch really.

It's not that I couldn't connect it's just there were no games to find. I eventually got into a lobby of a game only for the game to go down before it started.
Really enjoying it and there's no problems on Live as far as I'm aware. Species deathmatch would be better but me and my mates are honouring that regardless.
I'm so glad it's not a complete feck up. The fact that I'm mad for Aliens really helps me paper over the game's weaknesses. The hand to hand is a bit mashy but their does seem to be some strategy to it. Apart from that it's all good. I've been playing the demo all day so I think it's a defo first day as long as the reviews aren't really s**t.
Been trying on and off for hours on PSN to get a game and ive never even connected to a lobby yet, epic fail. Maybe all of us on here with PSN should add each other and try to get a friends game going, if you are interested my PSN is Bevington.
I like the bitching when it says quite clearly at the start BASED ON A PRE-RELEASE CODE DOES NOT REFLECT FINAL PRODUCT well done.......you've just proved you cant read
I can't join a game at all. I've tried the demo on both my 360 and my PS3. NADA. This is bull man, im excited for this game. Guess ill just go back to playing some Uncharted 2 MP.
Got it to work on my 360. First game, Marine, 1st place, 23 kills. Love it already. The map I played was overly dark with the torch doing sod all. I'd prefer the room to be darker and the torch to cut through the darkness abit more. The balance seems pretty good.

Yeah i got just finding games and it didn't do anything for about 1min. Returned to previous menu and tried again. connected to lobby instantly. It match making system i think so it depends on the host. Being the predator was very limiting in terms what you can do. Also the animation for death kill is too long, you end up dead cuz someone is waiting whilst u do ur death kill. Predators leap is way too short to name a few dislikes.
People who keep moaning about the game being too dark, need to properly setup their TV's for black levels. And then adjust the brightness setting in game (Something I didnt need to do)
Seriously nothing wrong with this game from a lighting point of view ..
I enjoyed the demo, its a bit clunky and the graphics I will admit look s**te, but its AVP! Thats enough for me to get it!

...yet the fact that this is a promotional demo for a game that's due out in a mere two weeks does tend to make one worry.
"Here, have a go at this, with any luck you'll enjoy yourself and buy our game! And if you don't like it, errrr.... *beat* Don't worry, the real game will be completely different! Yes, that's what we meant, honest."
My bottom. The fact they put that disclaimer at the start only goes to show that they're all too aware of the game's current deficiencies.
On the positive side though, there's nothing wrong with the demo that can't be fixed given a good bit of patching time. Fix the bugs, tone down the muzzle flash on the Pulse Rifle, reduce the Alien's health a bit, fix wall-walking, up the speed by 10%, job's a good 'un.
I've already put my pre-order in on the strength of a couple of impromptu Species Deathmatches I had earlier this afternoon, where we all agreed (to try) not to kill members of our own species. The game's a lot of fun with Aliens and Marines hunting in packs.

I wasn't moaning and my tv is set up perfectly for every other game I play. I was making a point about how useless the torch is.
It's....ok. Maybe this is the bazillion other shooters i've played in the last year talking but I much preferred playing as the marine. The motion tracker adds tension and you feel great when you take down one of the title characters. But there's something about it that just doesn't click. Maybe the campaign modes will be better. Can't see it being added to my collection though.
Just been playing the demo for the last hour or so and I must say its very refreshing. Playing as the Alien and running all over the walls, hissing and generally scaring the poopoo out of the marines is jolly good fun.
Had some issues getting into a game (waiting 5 minutes at one point) but apart from that it seems pretty good so far. They've still got some time to sort out some general issues but I don't think its anything too major to be game-breaking. However, I will wait for the reviews to come out before I buy.
And if theres any open maps, the Aliens are screwed as they seemed pretty poor in open combat.
Didnt have any problems getting games on the xbox last night and i really got into it, I do miss the crouch button though. Loved being the pred and marine not tried the alien yet, going to try and get an 8 player private game on tonight. The close combat system i like, but i find it hard to see what the other player is doing so i can counter it, but thats just practice i suppose.
There are alot of haters but I think most of them just dont know how to play it. Takes a bit of time to get used to it and the controls. My first game I went a predator and sucked at it but after you suss him out and the weapon locations I was nearly always top with him. The Alien is great fun to, though the wall walk can be a little iffy but that might just be me and need to change the controls or need more practice. And the marine is fun, def the most intense, you cant go charging in, keep your back to the wall and work slowly through the map checking the walls and ceiling while having a eye on the motion sensor and weapon pick ups. Iv won a good few games with all species, I thought it was pretty well balanced. Have to mind the demo code is over 10 months old so the full game should be more polished. Still think they should of went with species team deathmatch rather than deathmatch but hey ho. Though did have 7 other friends in my party last night for a wee while so it was basically a private match, so we had our own species team deathmatch, which was way better

That's just a rumour that was started on the Steam forums by some over-zealous fanboys, nobody really knows if it's true or not. The fact that the demo code has been already patched twice in the last 24 hours already kinda nullifies the point anyway, as the latest build is technically only 10 hours old at this point.
I take back my earlier comments on the combat being mashy. Me and 3headmonkey were having some awesome scraps.
There's nothing quite like countering a xenomorph, smashing it in the face with your rifle and then finishing it off with hot lead while it's wriggling on the floor.
A really refreshing game. I played it all day yesterday, not bad considering it was one map and by far the weakest multiplayer mode.
My only concerns now are the length of the campaigns. Hopefully they'll be meaty.
I'm glad I traded in COD now, I'm having much more fun on this and the BC2 demo.

Suppose it could be but the pacthes will be to just fix the network issues rather than actual gameplay. I have feeling the demo could be the build that journlists were playing months ago to write up previews.
Had a good go of it this morning with all species...loved it you need to have a few goes to get into it, graphics are ok, it plays like the original really..think ill be definately picking it up.
Interestingly I think the Marine's are pretty good I didn't have trouble kickin Alien or Predator backside so it seems pretty balanced...but I had a swine of a time trying to find weps for the Predator in the demo...oh well see you all there later..
downloaded onto ps3 and been playing for the last 24 hrs now...and tbh the jury is still out.
As someone who remembers the original AvP on his old Jaguar ( yes i know i bought one long ago.. i was young. Tempest 2000 still rocks my world tho) the demo really bought the memories flooding back.
The PS3 build released is relatively stable however im praying to various gods and sacrificing a few small animals in the hope that rebellion have held back a more graphically advanced build because aside from the lovely intro there isnt really anything visually in the game that will float the boats of the hard core 7th gen gamers out there.
The demo map doesnt really help the cause either.
the only lesson i learned at uni was taught to me by counter strike and that lesson is that map design and balance will make or break any multiplayer game.
Playing as a marine feels detached and cold and although playing as an alien really is a blast once you get the hang of the controls. i cant shake the feeling that the upcoming game is gonna be just as bigger let down as The Conduit on Wii. So lets all say a silent prayer to the SpaceJockey.. please dont disappoint or we will be forced to unleash the demented clone of Gary Busey. Rebellion.. you have been warned.
