Halo Reach not a Natal title

New Halo created for the traditional Xbox pad, says Bungie
Bungie has put to rest any internet chatter that suggests Halo: Reach will be a Natal-enabled title in its latest studio update.

The latest blog update reads, "When it rains it pours.

"Coming off a pretty lengthy dry spell, we've finally lifted our frilly little skirt and let you get a good old fashioned peep at the intimate apparel we're pimping. Hot on the heels of the most recent media blast, we've deployed tons of high resolution screenshots, concept art pieces, 3D renders straight from the engine, and even a few delectable fictional tidbits to keep you coming back around to our little corner of the gaming universe from time to time.

"Of course, with great assets comes great responsibility and since there are now a good number of understandable assumptions and gross misconceptions floating about, we figured we'd take a stab at dispatching a few of them with extreme prejudice."

You can read the full mythbusting update here but the important bit to remember next time your mate says Halo: Reach will be Natalised, "Halo: Reach is NOT a Natal title and is being developed expressly with the traditional Xbox 360 controller in mind."

And that's that then.

Thank god. Ms, you've just sold a copy, if its as good as the others in the series that is(which knowing Bungie it will be).

The wording on the weekly update does suggest that even though it's not designed for Natal it's not impossible that some functionality be included.

Let's just hope it's less boring than the last 2 miserable efforts.

i don't get why people say halo 3 was really bad (and don't say they where too short) halo 3 was a great game raising the bar for multiplayer fair enough the story wasn't as good as the others but still not awful

halo ODST on the other hand was a little cheeky but not "miserable " both games are great because even today there campaigns are still being replayed unlike game like games like cod and such

bungie are an amazing games company with the only not excellent game on there list being ODST and i personally can w8 for bungie to not be tied down by the halo series

I'm glad that the new Halo won't be utilising Natal technology for Reach - Bungie's a respected figure in gaming, and if they start adopting Microsoft's latest, the sheep will follow. Besides, can anybody imagine how Natal would work with Halo? You'd have to sell gun peripherals, and what about the walking? The only plausible angle I could see Natal working with would be throwing grenades...
newsinthefield on 31 Jan '10
The only way I would like to use Natal would be to interact with buttons and devices, such as pulling a lever in Half Life 2. That raises the question though of, "Is it worth buying Natal just to pull a lever?"

Good news on Reach not being built around Natal though. Come on Bungie, bring back the magic of Halo: CE!

I think he's talking about Halo Wars and Halo ODST.
krilles99 on 31 Jan '10
halo wars was also a good game at the same level as odst but i wasn't made by bungie anyway

I was on about Halo 3 and ODST.

Halo 3 multiplayer - no probs. But the game just felt tired, it was a bit like a cheeseburger from Mcdonalds; not that much of it and once you've finished it you can't understand why you bothered in the first place cos you realised it was crap half way through.

My seven year old nephew came round and finished it on normal in 6 hours.

He thought it was crap too.

I rented ODST - it just didn't hold my attention at all.

Halo was innovative - it changed FPS's for the better but there are just loads of better FPS's with more fresh ideas now. Time to either totally revamp it or sack it off IMO (but as long as folks keep buying em they'll keep making em i suppose)
Mark Hayhurst on 31 Jan '10
Funny that people think Halo is stale, when Call of Duty has done little different since it arrived on PC and yet people scream innovation.

The Halo series has been great. Halo 3 is a great game, and for someone who continues to play the still massively popular online mutliplayer I am still getting my value out of that £40 purchase.

ODST is most likely the weakest in the series, it is obviously based on Halo 3 and maybe suffers for it because it doesn't introduce anything new. However it is still a great game and I enjoyed playing it single and co-op. Firefight was a missed opportunity and would have added value if it had allowed play with random internet folk. Instead it is limited because to succeed you need four players and get 4 mates together regularly is a difficult task for most people.

@Mark Hayhurst:

i think you've just described how I feel about Killzone 2.

@Bazza:

I keep meaning to kill you a bit on Halo 3- next time I notice you online, prepare for death! (maybe)

There's no way I can imagine Bungie using Natal, because they've already got most of the main work done and are refining everything else. Using Natal would slow them down a lot due to unfamiliar software demands.
Desaima on 1 Feb '10
Goddamn, some people have a serious imagination deficiency when it comes to Natal Rolling Eyes
altitude2k on 1 Feb '10
Natal is a gimmick, pure and simple.

I don't want to have to jump around like a t**t when gaming. If I did I would have bought a Wii.

I want to play cutting-edge, quality games; to this end I bought an Xbox.

End. Of.
