EA pays Wayne Rooney £200,000 a year

Publisher splashes the big bucks to win FIFA endorsement from England striker
Electronic Arts pays Wayne Rooney £200,000 a year in sponsorship money, according to the footballer's legal records.

The Man Utd and England striker appears on the box-art for FIFA, as well as in television advertising and other promotional activity for the series.

Details of Rooney's earnings were revealed in a Court case taken out against the star in Manchester this week.

Rooney and wife Coleen are being sued by former sports management agency the James Grant Group for £4m in allegedly unpaid commission.

Legal papers filed in December 2008 revealed details of the Rooney's wealth - at the time estimated to be £35m.

In addition to his club salary of £90,000 a week, Rooney got £760,000 a month for image rights.

He earned £1m a year from Nike, £200,000 a year from EA and £600,000 from a four-year deal with Coca-Cola.

Not a bad little earner...

I think they should pay me £200k a year. I'd look far prettier on the box, for starters.

Let's not forget all the money he made from starring in the Shrek movies. Those must have earned him gazillions!

John Terry's probably going for cheap right now. A real bargain!

Surely Tiger Woods is enough.

Rooney's going to need the 200k as he is getting sued for 4 million. Unlucky.

i wonder how many pies 200k could buy you...

I’m going to go with anywhere between 200,000 and 25,000 dependant on the quality of pie. The higher amount for the bog standard Pukka and Fray Bentos varieties, and the smaller number for your higher quality pies.

You could get 290,000 McDonald's apple pies, or thereabouts. More of a strudel than a pie though, I guess.

Right, so....what does he do with all this money? Neverminding the money he gets from physical extertion that doesn't go beyond running and kicking?

Does he not still spend it on O.A.P prostitutes?
ensabahnur on 1 Feb '10
Maybe he should buy a hair piece now? I always thought football was the beautiful game but in his case I don't think so.

This makes me sick, go out get a real job like the rest of us.

That's a ridiculous amount of money. On the subject though, if you think about it, the console wars are a bit like the competing Premier League football teams.

Microsoft's Xbox is like Chelsea: New title contenders with plenty of cash to spend and plenty of firepower.

Sony's PlayStation is like Manchester United: Current holders with plenty of competitive strength and quality but currently in dept with returns only made via a long term investment.

Nintendo's Wii is like bottomnal: Playing with the big boys at a budget price with some strong elements, if lacking the firepower that makes the other 2 contenders.

Seriously ?? I was thinking the complete opposite ...

The PS3 is like Chelsea cos only chavs are interested in it, and you need a brain the size of a pea to not see what a steaming pile of turd it is

The 360 is like Man United ... everybody wants a piece of the action and people who had no interest in them (probably Chelsea supporters) suddenly support them when they are winning, and then when they are not ... go back to Chelsea ..

As for the Wii ... I would agree with that assesment

I've never been quite sure why people moan about how much footballers earn. Considering they're the most important part of an industry worth billions they get a fair wage.
duncanskuse on 1 Feb '10
An industry that doesn't contribute much to the economy for all the money involved. Money gets swilled around, but productivity doesn't.
Desaima on 1 Feb '10
Spoilsport.
duncanskuse on 1 Feb '10
I have nothing against the sport, but rather the sheer commercialism of it all.
