Heist cancelled by Codemasters

Action title 'terminated' by firm - as it strives for top quality schedule
UK publisher Codemasters has cancelled action title Heist, CVG can reveal.

The firm told CVG today that it had 'terminated Heist as a project' - and that it was fully focused on 'high quality titles'.

Criminal action title Heist was developed by inXile Entertainment and was set to be published for PC, 360 and PS3. Its story was set in San Francisco, California, circa 1969.

The decision comes after a stellar six months for Codemasters, with games such as Ashes Cricket 2009, DIRT 2, Operation Flashpoint 2 and F1 (Wii and PSP) giving it an enviable Metacritic average in 2009.

"After a much extended development period, Heist has been terminated as a project and removed from our release schedule," a Codemasters spokesperson told CVG.

"Codemasters is focusing its future portfolio on high quality titles that will, in the majority, be developed and produced by our internal studios."

CVG understands that the firm is lining up announcements for some truly huge games in the next few months - and we'll be sure to let you know about them when they land.

Is this what constitutes as news these days ? So what if Codemaster's latest game has been cancelled. It's not like it was going to be any good anyway. Anyway they will be out of business soon.

You have obviously not played Dirt 2 or OpFlash2 online with 3 mates.

It's nice to see a company like that have some form of a quality standard and to know when to call it quits on a game if it's not up to their standards.

Good for them, we need more companies to follow along like this and to stop releasing CRAP!

Am I the only person in the world who seems to have genuinely loved this game?
daviddanut on 28 Jan '10
daviddanut no. I hear there are another seven fans of the game too. But for everyone else it was extremely unenjoyable after a few minutes.

What a joke that Codemasters are even suggesting they're going to work on 'quality titles'. Heist was probably cancelled because it was too good to join the Codemasters portfolio of s**te games.

I enjoyed OF:DR. However the bugs were its downfall. Maybe I should try playing it again now to see if they've patched it up?
