Dante's Inferno review scores trickle out

Early verdicts for PS3/360/PSP title are very promising
We're not allowed to give our full verdict on EA and Visceral's Dante's Inferno until tomorrow (boo!). But we can tell you what some leaked early reviews have said (hurrah!) - and we're pleased to report that the story so far is a positive one.

According to ads for the game appearing online, lads' mag Loaded has called the title "incredibly impressive".

Other early reviews are equally positive, suggesting that those who dismissed this one as a poor man's God Of War may be in for quite a shock.

The title's due for release this Friday (February 5th) on Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP - and, as we've previously revealed, contains some pretty risque content.

The Guardian's Dante's Inferno review backs that point up. The paper gives the game 4/5, and reports: 'Dante's Inferno's most impressive aspect is its art direction and character design, although be warned: it won't be to all tastes.

'The scriptwriter and character designers have credits for films including the Hellboy and Hellraiser series on their CVs, which shows, and there's a pervasive undercurrent of gothic soft porn: the boss in the Lust circle, for example, is a giant naked houri who spews babies equipped with hands replaced by blades from her right nipple.'

(Those worried about the game offering nothing but low-brow culture need not worry though: EA is giving Dante fans the chance to win a break for two in historic Florence over at the game's dedicated site.)

According to today's online ad, Play Gamer scores the title 9/10, praising its 'mouth-watering set pieces'.

360 Magazine weighs in with a 4/5 score, calling the game 'highly polished and expertly presented'.

Of course, CVG's definitive review is the one you really need to read before you make up your mind. Mike's been giving this one some serious time - and will have his verdict up tomorrow...

Meanwhile, anyone getting this day one?

You bet your sweet ass I'm getting this on day one.

Can't wait!

The demo hooked me, so day one for me regardless of CVG's "definitive" review. Wink
Black Mantis on 2 Feb '10
I probably will, partly because I loved Visceral Games Dead Space so much
ranaraptor on 2 Feb '10
Defo day 1 purchase for me. Loved the demo and any game of this style i usually love. Finished Bayonetta so this will keep me going until GOW comes out, that is as long as i can get ME2 finished in between, and Bioshock 2, and AvP. Damn its like October 2008 all over again

How long before the "won't be as good as GOW" defenders are up and about though. Just like when Prototype and inFamous (both very similar games (and tbh both didn't live up to potential)) came out around the same time and we had the SDF out in force supporting inFamous as if Prototype was an xbox exclusive. I feel we're in for the same here.

got 5 out of 10 on IGN
Funny that, seeing as there's no review on the site and there's a review embargo on until 5pm tomorrow. Rolling Eyes

Games developers usually throw out their b games in between their A games. This is the b game while we wait for Dead Space 2. Don't think I'll bother it goes for cheap thrills over production values. They think a few naked birds will sell it. Sorry i'll wait for God of war 3. The demo for Dante's felt kinda cheap and tacky.
Nick33 on 2 Feb '10
Had this pre ordered for months and as I'm a huge fan of hellraiser I'm really looking forward to this one!
Marlonjb on 2 Feb '10
if its given above 8 by CVG then yeh, I'll buy it day 1. Its my 17th bday on friday so a new great game would make it one hell of a day.

I liked the demo, I thought the fight with death was pretty cool. Too busy with Bayonetta to buy anything else this soon.

Im happy its good though, to many people seemed to want this game to fail because of petty reasons.
roland82 on 2 Feb '10
got it yesterday and i am very happy to report its everything i was expecting AND MORE!
im going to need a whole lot of paper towels if 2010 continues the way its going.
every game released this year is incredibly good, so good in fact they give uncharted 2 or assassins creed 2 a good run for their money.
and we still have not touched the big hitters like GOW3 yet.
2010 is going to be the year to end all years!
blind_fools on 3 Feb '10
So where is the review for this game?
ranaraptor on 3 Feb '10
i've been championing this ever since the first reveal. can't wait to play it tomorrow.
