Apple tablet games are "sick"

Pundit bigs up soon-to-be-announced device
A pundit with early access to Apple's soon-to-be-announced tablet computer has gushed over the gaming capabilities of the device.

Speaking via his Twitter, Jason Calacanis praised a version of social network game, Farmville on the device, which he called "a huge game changer."

"Apple tablet games are sick. Basically nintendo wii-level innovation," Calacanis Tweeted. "You need to see Farmville on this thing... When 4 people have their farms out + lifestock walk from one screen to another."

According to the whistle blower, the Apple tablet features an OLED screen, HDTV tuner, two cameras, ability to run multiple apps simultaneously and will come in two sizes. "It looks like something between a giant iPod and a MacBook Air," he said.

"Facial recognition apple tablet is nuts. When you hold it up it recognizes you + pulls your desktop/apps, hand to family member it switchs," he added.

Earlier today EA boss, Peter Moore said the Apple tablet has "the ability to be a games machine." From the sound of these Tweets it already is a games machine.

The Apple tablet is set to be announced tonight. Check back later for all the news on its gaming capabilities.

benstevens on 27 Jan '10
sick as in sleep with sister sick or as in this free money is sick?
adgr19 on 27 Jan '10
apple sucks.

overpriced hardware for smart arses.
svd_grasshopper on 27 Jan '10
Sounds like a great device but the inevitable 1-2k price tag will put me and many others off. Good to see apple taking gaming a bit more seriously though.
DAEDALUS79 on 27 Jan '10
I am surprised the guy didn't have a accident in his pants.
kimoak on 27 Jan '10
It sounds more 'dope' than 'sick' to me.
ricflair on 27 Jan '10
Just as benstevens says it will inevitably cost £1000+ and that will price most people out. And if it's Wii-level innovation then I'm not sure I want it anyway, since most of it's games probably won't have any sort of substance. Game Party 3 at launch?
lordirongut on 27 Jan '10
I don't know about you but I don't trust the word of a man that uses the word sick in that context and uses Farmville as an example of gaming prowess.

Word!

Where's everyone getting a 1k price tag from. I doubt even Apple would dare price it that high. I expect it to be nearer 500 bucks to be competitive.

However Farmville... come off it. Is that really a "sick" demonstration of its power. I doubt it's going to be great as a gaming device anyway because it's touch screen.

I think the islate will be popular with the new crowd of Apple owners who just want something to show off in Starbucks.

At the end of the day if you want a gaming rig get a PC, if you want a fast and stable operating system (or just be a big girly show off with plums in your mouth) then get a Mac.
chunkyboymania on 27 Jan '10
so it has hdtv cable, two cameras, touchscreen, able to run multi apps, tilt sensors and a OLED screen (this cost alot last year when sony brought one 11 inches i think), 32gb or 64gb of hdd, so if this dosnt cost more than 500 quid, i will be amazed.
The_Hun1 on 27 Jan '10
Yeah but I still expect it to be nearer £500 so we'll say anywhere below £749.
chunkyboymania on 27 Jan '10
Gizmondo have a live blog with pictures from inside the reveal - worth checking out. If there are going to be 2, I can't see one being below £600, maybe £700, so the flagship model is going to be at least £800, probably £900.

Would be surprised to see an HDTV tuner in it, but you never know I suppose. And if it's best game is Farmville, then I'll laugh my bottom off.

... and uses Farmville as an example of gaming prowess.

That.

...
However Farmville... come off it. Is that really a "sick" demonstration of its power....

And that. Farmville? Really? Farmville?? Maybe his definition of sick is "will appeal to teenage girls and your mom."
strapp31 on 27 Jan '10
It has to be pricey, a 32GB iPhone 3GS costs around £550 at retail without a contract. I would presume that this i(insert name here) would easily cost more than an iPhone bigger screen, more power, more Storage space. If I had the money I'd buy one because from my experience Apple products are fantastic.
Mr S0L0 D0L0 on 27 Jan '10
Well it doesn't look as though it has a camera on it, let alone two, so it appears this guy might have just been making it up to get some publicity anyway.

Loser.

Awaits for MS's/other eletronic giants to release PC pads/tablets to rival Apple in the not-too-distant future! Wink

oh hell yeah, so how's that Zune working out for ya?

Currently its too expensive, but its a nice bit of kit. Hopefully it will drive innovation in the market place.

Still want that wrist mounted interactive hologram projector.
jazzy_p on 27 Jan '10
well its just been announced that the iPad will be sold for $499. so thats around £300. fairly cheap. 1 thing that i think will be a problem is that it only has a 1ghz processor. phones have that now with the snapdragon.
infernoxXx on 27 Jan '10
OMG!!! Farm animals can walk across one screen to another! WOW!!! I can't wait for that 'sick' gaming experience. Oh wait, that isn't exciting at all, but hey, some idiot will like it...somewhere.

Why hasn't this article been updated? Most of the crap in it is completely wrong. Two cameras?!? Not even one camera. Runs multiple apps, yea right, what device was he playing with? This tweet sounds like such a fake.
SavageEvil on 28 Jan '10
The only thing sick about Farmville is when your cute little animals contract foot & mouth and mad cows disease. They then proceed to wander on over to your mates iPhad and infect his livestock. Pile 'em up & have a bovine bonfire, Game Over. Please try again.
jamieleng on 28 Jan '10

Tramp.
altitude2k on 28 Jan '10
What I want to know is when will I be able to play Farmville on my PS3? To be frank, I'm getting a little tired of awesome graphics, gameplay, level design and storytelling. Come on Sony, before Microsoft buy the exclusive rights.
