15-Aug-2001 A recent classic revamped to look prettier and introduce endearing characters. The only time it's not sad to admit a PS2 game could get you wet You remember Wetrix - building walls to contain water that fell Tetris style from the sky? Well here it is all over again, but better looking, and with extra story modes and multi-player action. Well not just better looking, but a million times better looking and all the better to play because of it.It uses the Tetris method of getting drawing you in. It's easy to pick up and play, and within a few minutes you'll have some pretty good structure going on before all hell breaks loose. Then you just have to try it again, and again, and again, and again. Then a few hours later when the dog has taken himself out for a walk, your dinner is in the cat and daylight has dawned you realise that you have got your hands on a devilishly addictive game. Two player mode kicks in a whole new dimension of vindictive action as the more success you have piles more agony on your opponent, crashing huge waves of water down when they least need it. Childish, but immensely satisfying - just as we like it.
Like all good puzzle games, it's easy gameplay and long term addictiveness that keeps you glued to Aquaqua. It lacks the all-round weirdness of Fantavision but offers more skilful gameplay as you have to plan what you are doing well in advance. With its cutesy graphics it will hold appeal for younger gamers as well.
