Rockstar has said that it understands the frustration of PS3 owners who haven't been able to play some of the firm's big releases, due to them being exclusive to Xbox 360.
During a website Q&A; Rockstar was asked why the GTA DLC wasn't ever relesed on PS3, a question they must get all the time.
"We know that it continues to be an often-asked question - and believe us, we understand the frustration of PS3 owners like yourself who haven't been able to play any of our most recent releases," was the response. "All we can say is that we at Rockstar promise to be very good to you with our releases in 2010. Please stay with us and stay tuned!"
And showing just how random the internet can be one kid asked, "I noticed that nearly every Grand Theft Auto box art since GTAIII has a helicopter in the top left corner. Why is that?"
The answer? "We are not really sure. It just happened that way, and we've kept it often as a sort of signature. On the boxes, we try to give people a flavor of the game, and in every GTA, helicopters seem to play a major part, so it always seems relevant.
"We also change the color palette and style of art between each game, but perhaps these changes are only apparent to us! Another interesting fact - only GTA3 featured different packaging for the US and Europe. After that, we decided to keep things consistent across the world."
Haha. Good news for everyone (provided you own both consoles). The PS3 is coming into its own this year, GOW3, Heavy Rain, possibly UC3, Agent... Just about time to invest in my own PS3 rather than going to a mates house, but the focus of my social gaming and multi platform releases is likely to remain the 360. Microsoft has really dropped the ball with exclusives, at least until Natal comes out.
Of course, the only games I am likely to care about OR play for the next several months is Mass Effect 2.
If you knew anything, you'd know that $50 million MS payed was a loan. Regardless of how the DLC done, they got it back because that was the arrangement. And the DLC actually done pretty well, MS and R* made a nice profit on it.
Moribundman, i wouldn't say microsoft have dropped the ball with exclusives for this year(depending on your tastes of course).
2009 was very poor though, the ps3 mullered the 360 for exclusives. This year though looks interesting(for me anyway). A new Halo game(yep i'm a fan), alan wake(i love silent hill type games), mass effect 2(getting incredible reviews already, even ign gave it a higher score than uncharted 2), crackdown 2(loved the original), splinter cell(always liked them)and a few others as well. For me it's a great year of exclusives on the 360 this year. The ps3's exclusive lineup looks good as well, not quite as strong as 2009 though(imo). God of war 3 i can't wait for though.
Rockstar want to be pally with Sony because much of the Rockstar fanbase were and still are Playstation gamers. It makes good sense, particularly because it's hit some hardships.
Rockstar need to do and confirm a few things to earn my respect back.
1.Gta v full exclusivity or failing that timed exclusivity or even failing that exclusive dlc at the very least. They owe us big time!!!!! 2.Agent info asap!! 3.Bully 2 info asap!! 4.La noire was really a ps3 exclusive all along. 5.San andreas stories for the psp is infact a reality. 6.Throw in some free max payne 3 dlc to put the icing back on the cake. 7. This would make me cum!.....wait for it....Manhunt 3 is in development.
if more than 4 of those come to reality espically #7 there is a f**king god!!
FWIW i think that if a game is gonna come out on both systems then there should be identical DLC for both systems,it shouldn't be exclusive DLC that gets the headlines...it should be exclusive games that do it,for either machine
@MPH: i used to own all 3,until i realised i hadn't played on my Wii for nearly 2 years, and sold it
@Dorian: i think Pmantis is just making a wishlist there,i think he is aware that LA Noire is coming to the 360 also
How they going to make up for it? Sounds like empy promises to me. Ms will just offer another 50 mill for Gta 5 exclusive content, then Ps3 owners are screwed again.
Microsoft paid $25 million for each DLC, not £300 mil, but that pales into comparison to the profits that they have had over the entire life of the series most of which was down to the Playstation and PC versions. I think the Microsoft deal we saw was a one off and expect that any future DLC will be multiplatform, it certainly makes more sense financially.

Absolutely mate. Don't get me wrong "I BLEED GREEN" and Mass Effect 2 is the only thing that can in any way distract me from my good lady in the next 6 months, Loved Crackdown and will play Crackdown 2, am avidly awaiting Alan Wake and praying it's all it's promised us it is, but I like the way the PS3 is shaping up and may consider going "bipartisan" this year.
The PS3 will always make me feel dirty, but it might be a nice dalliance once in a while.

1. - I don't care about exclusivity, but I would like the PS3 to get all content for GTAV and not to miss out on any DLC. 3. - Agreed. 5. - I want to see a san andreas stories a lot. I doubt this will ever happen, but if it did i'd be very happy indeed.

It is indeed. I have to say that past its awkward exterior the PS3 is a brilliant machine with lots of great exclusives. Not just the obvious ones like Uncharted and MGS4 but the Likes of Folklore and Siren Blood Curse and Valkriya chronicles. Its that moody girl in the corner. you know the one you end up drunkenly talking to at a party and end up dating.
As someome who owns both consoles, like lots of people do this gen I quite like the odd bit of exclusive DLC -
It helps me decide which format to pick up, which I'm sure is the point of Sony/MS paying for the exclusivity! So obviously I got GTA on 360 and Batman on PS3.
for all its fanfare, IV DLC did nothing for the xbox. i think they got sucked into their own hype. the game sold just as much ps3's as it did 360's. thats the last MS try that crap.
now, a nice bit of GTA DLC will tide us over till AGENT.
and i think i'll get my platinum for GTA while i wait for the DLC...
You'd be better off having a few pints rather than waiting on some GTA DLC to 'tide you over'.

Quite where you read that there would be GTA DLC for PS3 in there is beyond me.
like that exclusive-to-disc radio station (or whatever it was) will come on the DLC. plus more.
ps3 DLC is guaranteed.
Why would I be disappointed? - I've already played it.
You have to remember, it's only people like you that gets their knickers in a twist over things like this. The only time that I'll believe that anything is 'guaranteed' is when R* say so themselves.
egg on the face for grasshopper dont you jnow thatt the gta iv dlc disc is still in the top 20 in the uk after 4 months nearly and has sold half of whar uncharted 2 has? rofl PWNED
remember when san-an was "exclusive" for ps2. that made it to xbox.
if an entire game can make it across, an expansion pack for an already-released game can make it.
do you really bet against it?
the code is done. microsofts loan has been paid back. there is nothing stopping it.
why wouldnt they?!
Again - 'the code is done'...you mean they've coded them for PS3? - have they?, really?
'microsofts loan has been paid back' - seriously, I've never actually read anything that backs this comment up. In fact, I don't think it's ever been fully confirmed if it was a loan at all.
it was a 50m advance. money that was coming their way anyway.
Far from a fanboy, but that accusation is very rich coming from you.
To be honest, I actually couldn't care less if it came to PS3 or not - I've already played it, that's all I care about. One of the main reasons I bought my 360 was for the GTA DLC, but I wouldn't begrudge other gamers from getting their hands on it. The same goes for Mass Effect - that's one game that deserves to be played by as many people as possible.
The thing that bugs me is the ridiculous 'predictions' you make with literally bugger all to back them up - for example, you say that they're 99% ready for the PS3 through the 360 development....that sounds more than a little optimistic. So, the only difference between any multiplatform title is just 1% of work between the two consoles? - nonsense.
The bottom line is this; if R* make an announcement and say that they're going to release 'Episodes...' on PS3, then I'll believe it. Until then, you're just talking b******s.
Well, I dunno if it's even WISE for R* to bring the GTA4 DLC over to PS3 so long after the game was widely (GTA4 itself) panned by a vast number of gamers(not me though as i thought SA was TOO gonzo and verged on the same stinky path as Saints Row)and a lot of gamers felt it was too late even on the 360. Would it even sell without a cut price and a lot of extras?
And , besides, R* have a three game deal for exclusives with Sony which I believe was done as part of the deal to allow R* to take GTA4 multiplatform. It also seems a fair enough deal when you consider that three new IPs aren't all, if any, likely to gain the kind of success an exclusive GTA would have for Sony, and GTA4 would have sold a LOT of PS3s had it stayed with them. IDK why people seem to have forgotten about this deal but even after Agent was revealed hardly anyone mentioned that it was just the first fruits of the deal I'm talking about.
I'm not making this up and it was never a secret as far as I know and i've seen it spoken about by press and and devs alike since the deal was struck and it just confuses me why noone mentions it when it's relevant-like here. The last time I recall it being spoken about was on, of all places the HHG BUT NOT by HHG but one of the developers he was talking to and for someone in the industry to go on record on a show like that really battened it down as fact for me as i'd only seen it in print before and there was no way this guy was edited to make it seem another way to how it was said. So, expect two more R* exclusives for PS3 gamers afer Agent-unless, say, one slips to next gen I guess.
It might also make more sense of why MS were happy tom shell oput for the DLC, trying to eek more out of those GTA4 gamers on 360 while they had the chance, no? Whatever, I might prefer my PS3 to my 360 myself(controller preference mainly and I also prefer more of the PS3 exclusives-but only just!)but, christ, I pity anyone too biased not to use both this year as there's must have games ALL over the place startiong with ME2 through to Reach on 360 and from MAG(brilliant game, imo, if not a true blockbuster and Zipper already know this is a niche title as no team based shooter ever sells like a MW2 or Halo but for SOCOM and TF2 fans it's amazing when you get a good leader and squad just as the perfect TF2 team was a dream for me. Seriously, I know alot want to bag on it but they've been mainly COD fans and it really isn't that kind of game but one that will thrive on a tight community -like a TF2 or Warhawk this gen)to TLG on PS3 with, I suspect from what we can safely guess AND what we can't, a little more to be added besides. Great year, Keep gaming:stop hating.
it was never confirmed that it was a loan and by the way rockstar went to sony first and sony said no to it because they did not have much money then they wasted money from buyin Haze s microsoft brought the rights and we have know idea if it is exclusive or timed exclusive
i havent got a PS3 and im looking foward to Agent cause my uncles got a ps3 but ive got an xbox 360 im not a fanboy or anything i like the ps3 but im not spending £250 for it i know its worth it GTA: Episodes from Liberty City (TLaD and TBoGT)were BRILLIENT and it did do something for the 360 i admit it was late but i enjoyed all the same.
