The troubled Star Wars: Battlefront series is set to be resurrected by SOCOM: Confrontation developer, Slant Six Games, a report claims.
'Battlefront Online', as it's being called, is being targeted for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011, claim sources accredited to Kotaku.
Battlefront III was of course in development at deceased UK developer, Free Radical, before LucasArts mysteriously pulled the plug on the project. After very public money problems Free Radical was acquired and rebranded by German Crysis house, Crytek.
It's a shame because FR's version of the game, as you can see by this leaked footage, was looking brilliant. The series was rumoured to have picked up by Pandemic and Rebellion, claims which the earlier developer denied.
Hopefully the license will now make its way into safe hands... and to be honest we're not sure if Slant Six Games is quite our preferred calibre of candidate.
Going on how badly it went for these guys with SOCOM at first, i pretty much agree with your little sentence at the end of this article CVG.
Though saying that i guess you only improve from making mistakes in the first place. This game if done well could really put this dev up on the market.
Damn, all I can say is I HOPE that BF III isn't completely canned.
I realise Rebellion have a lot on their plates what with AvP and probably follow-up work such as DLC but I think that they had fair efforts on PSP and they could pull something good out on the new consoles.
I would much prefer that to SOCOM dev if I'm honest, dont rate them games much.
