UK Chart: Just Dance shoots down Modern Warfare 2

Nine weeks of COD chart domination brought to an end by Ubisoft's Wii dance game
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's nine week reign at the top of the UK all formats chart has been brought to an end by the most unlikely of games - Ubisoft's Just Dance.

Having released back in November 2009, the Wii exclusive dance title recorded an eye catching 114 per cent increase in weekly sales to claim the number one spot.

Wii Fit Plus held second place as Modern Warfare 2 slipped to third. Activision's shooter recently became the third bestselling game in UK history.

The only new entry on this week's chart was Army Of Two: The 40th Day in fourth, according to GfK Chart-Track.

01. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
02. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
03. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
04. Army Of Two: The 40th Day (EA)
05. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
06. Darksiders (THQ)
07. Bayonetta (Sega)
08. FIFA 10 (EA)
09. James Cameron's Avatar: The Game (Ubisoft)
10. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft)

Well that just shows how the casual gamer/bored lazy families has far more value £$£$ than the dedicated hardcore games.

I fear this is where all formats will be heading in the future, i just hope Sony continue to provide me with AAA gamimg like it has done over ten years now or i will have to resort to cliff hanging and whits water rafting to get a buzz.

Unfortunately i fear all developers will be following the £$£$£$£$£. they just cant help themselves.

In all fairness the red-head who's moves you dance to on the "Eye of the Tiger" song is pretty hot.

I think you've ignored the fact that this game was top for 9 weeks and has passed $1 billion in revenue ($1,000,000,000). I don't think that the publishers will forget about that, you just got to put up with the occassional casual game strangling the charts between major releases. It'll all change in a few weeks...

Agreed, although it's not just occasionally that a casual game tops the charts. Nintendo has consistently dominated the yearly charts for awhile now, and much of their stuff on those charts are casual/shovel-ware such as "Wii Fit", etc. You are right though: There is clearly a market for AAA titles (even though "MW2" is hardly a spectacular game by many accounts) and thus is unlikely to be overlooked nor forgotten by the gaming powers that be.

Xmas money combined with the huge number of reality TV shows about dancing has caused this. It's like the way you suddenly see millions of people on normally-ignored tennis courts when Wimbledon is on Smile

all i can say is hahaha.

Marlonjb on 18 Jan '10
This surely has summin to do with peoples resolutions and losing weight?

Either way I'm 50/50 over MW2 losing it's #1 spot.

On one hand I really wanted to see it go for a lot longer so it became legendary not just in the game world but in all forms of media.

On the other hand, imo, the game is soooo overrated that it needed to get a bit of a slap in the face, dropping down 2 spots, to old games AND their only on 1 console.

Still I'm sure their not complaining, they had a great run!

With news that Nintendo's shovelware dominated the worlds charts, Sony and MS both going after the casual market as well, I fear this could be the start of a general move towards more casualness.

Dangerous times for the hardcore gamer.

Yeah i thought MW2 was hardly amazing! but i guess it just surfed on the hype. Will be interesting to see if Sony manage to keep their motion controller for both casual and hardcore gamers or if it will be just a PS branded Wii rip off. Lets hope they keep us all happy.

infernoxXx on 18 Jan '10

i-am-from-space on 18 Jan '10
Guess the suppliers managed to sort themselves out... when I was at HMV over xmas is was impossible to get copies of Just Dance in stock. I'm not surprised its doing well... so many people came in looking for it!
