The BBC has released new figures that show its iPlayer service broke 100 million requests for programmes in a month for the first time.
The on-deamnd TV service is currently available on more than 20 devices and allows users to catch up with their favourite BBC programmes.
The final two weeks of December 2009 saw a huge increase for people accessing BBC programmes through their games console, said the BBC, "with one in eight of all TV requests now coming from either a Nintendo Wii or Sony PS3 console, which is an increase of 74% since November 2009."

Erik Huggers, director of future media and technology, said: "Breaking the 100 million barrier is a great way to kick off 2010 and these figures show that by offering simple and varied access to BBC iPlayer people are really finding it easy to catch up with their favourite programmes at a time that suits them.
"I expect more people to start using the service as we continue to make it more widely available and I'm looking forward to some of the new innovations we have coming to the service later on in the year."
It's a shame that the other channels catch-up sites don't work on it
You can watch channel 5 and 4od via youtube, as they have both of them on there...so you can watch any of your favorite shows with your ps3 with there on those channels.
I use the iPlayer when in bed...if only for Top Gear lol.
I don't use iPlayer at all on my console. Unfortunately the console I own is made a company who isn't interested in content that doesn't bring them profit.
I do, however, watch iPlayer programmes on my computer. It's an amazing service. And one that a particular American company could learn a lot from, although there's nothing to learn about making more money, so I understand they'll never be interested.
I use it all the time on my PS3 and i find it great. Sometimes it crashes if i watch a programma and try to watch another, so i tend to come out of iplayer then go back in after each programme.
Microsoft take note. What, are they terrified that people who bought a games console and have yet to sign up for their paid online gaming service might get ONE non-gaming benefit for free? Are they feeling threatened?
Do they foresee LEGIONS of GAMES CONSOLE owners who will boycott the ONLINE GAMING FACILITY by saying "oh, I'm alright MS, I don't need online gaming or any of the other Gold member benefits; I'm sitting pretty with my BBC iPlayer and my offlien games"?
Don't they think maybe the people who would say this are already indisposed towards gold membership? Is BBC iPlayer such a catch that it would bring Gold subscription to its knees if they allowed silver members to use it?
If it's THAT amazing, maybe it explains the alleged "defections" from MS to Sony... (!)
Sort it out Microsoft - the sodding Wii has a better service than you do.
To be honest although I have it on my Wii and obviously can access it via my pc or laptop, I hardly ever watch it on anything other than my V+ box as it is a great service and also has catch up programs on other channels too.
Never really used the service on my PC but started using it a lot once it came to PS3. MS really need to sort it out though, they should enable european 360's to play which-ever catchup TV is avaiable in the country the console is in.
Although thinking about it now their could be a good reason why MS don't allow iPlayer on the 360. iPlayer would need to connect to a network (the internet) outside of XBL. This is why MS are still in talks with SE over Final Fantasy 14 on the 360, becuase it will connect to SE's playonline server. They did allow it wih Final Fantasy 11 but that was when the 360 had just been released and MS needed new games. It was funny playing that, walking around then chatting to someone who was in your team in the game but they were playing on a Playstation 2!
iPlayer is all my Wii does these days... it sits in the front room and does nothing but play Eastenders these days
I have to admit the last 3 times I've turned on my Wii, it was just to watch Easteners, I feel ashamed of myself.
Actually, I'd admit to that also. In the last year all that I've used my Wii for is Eastenders, Top Gear (I'm more embarassed about the latter, tbh) and to play Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

You have time to watch eastenders when there is NSMB to play? (Hang on, you choose to watch eastenders.......?)
I finished that game already, no i do have games I could be playing instead, but... I don't know, I just don't feel like it. It's not easy being a multi-console owner.

I know, I am trying to juggle NSMB, A boy and his blob, Little Big Planet psp, MW2 and Bayonetta.....
That does not get you out of the fact that you are choosing to watch Eastenders though
