I like the news. Being a spartan and perhaps MC (as its is happening days before halo 1) and love that its going back to halo 1 style game play. hopeful vehicles will be confirmed soon

It's not MC. Noble 6 is a Spartan III, the only Spartan II is the massive guy, Jorge.
Hopefully this game brings something new and interesting. I've beaten both Halo 1 & 2, but never saw the appeal or was interested in Halo 3. I always thought Halo could use a little less color and be a bit more gritty, it's colorful; reminiscent of a childs coloring book. I will wait for a review and vids of this, I have no reason to part ways with money when the game itself wont provide me with hours of excitement.
i thought i would miss odst the only real appeal was the achievements and reach beta. I've seen it around for £20 so i might get it for reach beta and sell it on again.
halo reach is a must for me, loving halo 1&3 but i've been played mw2 recently and going back to halo 3 was a shock, it was so boring and the graphics looked so old and horrible. From seeing some leaked shots of reach, the game looks great. I would love to see some new original online game types, but no races. Also i love the social side of the online but its not that social with kdr and score all kept on your bungie online account.
I really hope mw2 does something like the online bungie thing where you can track your stuff (that vip section has been closed for ever on the IW site).
I also really hope the campaign is 10+ hours long but co-op is always fun, and online should be better (unless it all gets hacked with f****** stupid games like on mw2)
40-man battles? Please explain CVG... Does this mean 40 players in Multiplayer? because it says in your list 16 player MP so I'm confused lol I'm guessing it means upto 40 AI in the campaign on the same battlefield. Anyway Halo has nether addressed the latency problem that excists in the Halo universe even with 4vs4 it can still be horrible.
Sounds right up my alley. All I ever wanted from the Halo sequels was an improvement over Halo 1's outside battles. Can't wait for more details and hopefully some videos soon.
I'm still a big fan of Halo 3 multiplayer. True the graphics don't look as good newly released games, but it's a 2 and half year old games that is still going strong on Xbox Live, only losing its number 1 popularity slot to MW2 recently and still sitting in the number 2 slot.
ODST was a decent game and it took me longer to complete than MW2 did. The story was interesting, but the Firefight could have reached so many more people had they put matchmaking into it.
Looking forward to the BETA of Reach now. They need to expand the game, but it needs to stay unique. I really hope they don't try and make the MP into a COD clone.
Can't wait for this. Just hit Brigadier Grade 3 on Halo 3. CoD is good, but I usually get bored of it, and go back to good old Halo.
There are so many epic moments in the multiplayer, and it actually take skill to play, unlike the other big FPS on Xbox Live. Mortal Mad Matt on 12 Jan '10
Seriously, you can say that with a straight face? Yeah I know, . The stuff people say sometimes just boggles the mind.
I didn't know they had videos for this game in action, stupid internet explorer.
I was hoping that they had upped the maximum number for the Big Team Battle rotation, bringing it more inline with the experience you get from BF1943 (which manages to create a busy battlefield with only 24 players). 16 players in Halo 3 BTB is good, and all, but you do have periods where you're ambling around for a while before you find people, especially on the larger maps like Sandtrap.
Think I may have to pick up Edge next week to get a better look at those pictures, but some of those models and environments are looking great. Especially those jackals.

Its true though. While all games take some degree of skill obviously, some demand more than others. It takes more skill to master Halo 3 than it would modern warfare. Just as it would take more skill to master something like team fortress 2 than it would Halo 3. You can run around lone wolf getting 40 kill streaks in modern warfare for christ sake.
The scans look awesome, if the Beta plays well then its a definate day 1 purchase!
Can't believe so many people didn't like ODST, it was great fun, though a tad short lived, can't believe they doidn't make firefight with matchmaking though

Seriously hyped for this game now. Very Happy
They are all spartan 2s spartan 3s are just kids if you read the books!!!!
They are all Spartan IIIs apart from Jorge who is the only Spartan II in Noble (hence why he's such a big bastard).
Just look at their Spartan numbers in the scans. Jorge is the only one who has a number less than 200 (S-052). The Spartan IIs only went up as far as around 150.
Yes, the Spartan IIIs were only kids at the fall of Harvest, but not at the fall of Reach.
Does this mean people can scan the CVG magazine and post addresses to the whole magazine in these forums?
That would save many people purchasing it! Or alternatively perhaps CVG could just post an address to download a PDF. That would save people from scanning the thing then.

I quite like the fact that we'll play as a Spartan III, as it's a step up from an ODST, but still more vulnerable than playing as MC.

It's from a US-only magazine, and this site is catering for people in the UK who won't normally have access to that literature. But I'm sure this will really piss off the 3 people in the UK who spend a fortune to get it import it in
Looking forward to this, not overly concerned about the cap at 16 players as Halo multiplayer has always been more gladatorial than it's peers. What I am concerned about is length and variety of singleplayer and balance of the multiplayer, Halo 3 was almost perfect in the latter regard.
I really don't want Bungie to be cowed by the popularity of COD by making it an MMO lite with unlocks and whatever, just make the meat of the game really satisfying to play and allow the ability to run please.

if have read the books spartan 3s came just before th fall of reach and i no there was 150 in spartan 2 but all of there numbers were different ranged by quiet a bit spartan 3 also dont have mjolnir armor which in the pic they are wearing. jusst remeber every time they went on a mission (the spartan 3s) it was a suicide!! every time they got wiped out!!

I know all of this and don't want to keep on going in circles, so I suggest you read the scans or head onto Bungie.net, where there are a few forums explaining the Spartan III situation.
No doubt the Edge article will have more info as well.
40 kill streak? Unless you are on a team with great players and you are playing a bunch of noobs, that is quite hard to do. I have never seen a streak that high, I for one make sure I kill everyone on the team at least once. Doing it lone wolf is utter crap, everyone else would have to be completely garbage.
i didn't down Halo, but some idiot pm me with some stupid letter to defend his right to Halo. Yikes. Don't try to downplay another game because you're not good at it, or other players are so advanced they make your skills look pathetic. If that is how you think well, nothing more to say.
That said, I hope reach aims to be a bit grittier as the other Halo's were just too colorful and took me out of the whole alien world. Why do alien worlds have to be excessively colorful, what is the deal with that?
I just took a look at those scans, from what I've seen the single player looks great. I'm hoping firefight(with matchmaking, all maps and optional skulls) and forge(with no budget and every option on every map) make a return. I also think 6 player co-op would be great (as long as it's not too easy). I guess we'll find out what the multiplayer is like when the beta comes out, I wouldn't be disappointed if Bungie decided not to mess with the formula that worked in Halo 2 and 3 but I'd also like to see them try a class system like in Call of Duty. The armour options from the single player sound alot like perks to me.
The age old question is, can one game make you buy a console?
My answer is yup and this is it. If this can deliver on the promise of being a upped version of Halo and can deliver the goods while being a fully fledged next generation and most important "fundemental" Halo title then I cant wait.
That and Alan Wake but then I'd probably sell my Xbox 360 after that.
I thought it was 40 AI + 20 Vehicles at the same time.
Bungie.net/forums - Reach will NOT follow the book, Fall of Reach.
- We play as Spartan IIIs. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team, and as a result is larger.
- Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad.
- Jorge is a heavy weapons specialist.
- "Skully" now has a name, Emile 239. He's the silent type of the game.
- The sniper is called Jun 266. He's thoughtful and taciturn.
- We can customise the appearance of the Lone Wolf by a small degree. Awesome.
- The game is apparently darker than any of the other Halo games, even more so than ODST.
- Human Insurrectionists are possibly in the game
- Bungie have once again made the Covenant more dangerous and frightening, as they were in Halo 1.
- Covenant soldiers no longer speak English, they speak in their own languages.
- A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a "Skirmisher." They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions.
- Graphics have been improved drastically, as proven by in-magazine comparisons.
- Elites are back, and are more ferocious than ever.
- Larger scale combat will be in Reach. Where only 20 AI at a time could be on screen in Halo 3, now over 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time.
- Scenes are more cinematic.
- Noble Team splits up at a point in the story, but it seems they soon get back together.
- Health Bar is back along with energy shield.
- Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM)
- Sniper, AR and Magnum make a return. Gun sounds are more realistic.
- Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon.
- Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frags and plasma remain.
- Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon.
- Civillian vehicles are now drivable.
- Fully stealthy gameplay is now possible.
- Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button.
- Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic.
- Spirits, the Covenant drop ship in CE, return in Reach, alongside Phantoms.
- Grunts look a lot more menacing.
- Motion Tracker seems compressed, like an oval rather than the Halo 3 circle.
- Hud is yellow rather than blue.
- Marines look vaguely like Halo 1 marines.
- Phantoms now have a flashlight, like the one seen in the ODST announcement trailer.
- Elites seem taller, and are no longer hunched.
- All features from Halo 3 (Forge, Theatre, Co-op) make a comeback along with several new ones.
- We will be shown what Reach looks like before it is destroyed. We will see the levels of destruction progress as we get further through the game, implying the game takes place over a longish period of time.
