The Sum of All Fears

It's the game of the film Americans wanted removed from movie theatres across the States. Based on the Tom Clancy novel, The Sum Of All Fears movie and game tells the story of the US Government's race against time with an extreme terrorist group. How extreme? Extreme enough to nuke a sports stadium full of people halfway through the story. Eep!

HELPING HAND
Based on the technology behind the Rainbow Six games, The Sum Of All Fears has much broader appeal, especially for PS2 players. All of the pre-mission planning and tactical-ops nonsense of the PC games (which we always reckoned was tedious) has been ditched. Instead you're given a simple briefing and are thrown straight into the action.
You control just one fireteam, instead of having a hand in all of them as in the Rainbow games, and the action feels a lot more focused and exciting as a result. The map has been simplified too, and you can even turn on a helpful guideline to literally lead you to your mission objectives.

DUMB, NOT BLOND
Such dumbing down may not impress PC heads familiar with the more taxing aspects of similar tactical FPS games, but it's sure to be far more appealing if you like your thrills more instant. The Rainbow Six PSone conversions never really worked on the teeny home console, but it looks like the PS2 version of Tom Clancy's latest blockbuster will bridge the gap between all-out tactical geekiness and super-sexy stealthy action.

Overview

Verdict
Will probably be better received on PS2 where there's less competition, but still a promising movie tie-in on both formats.
