God Of War 3 is a 'must have' - Sony

Publisher says title is 'set apart' from other next-gen games in exclusive CVG interview
God Of War 3 publisher Sony believes God Of War 3 will be a 'must have' game for adult gamers when it arrives in March - as it is "set apart" from any other next-gen title on the market.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with CVG, Sony's product manager for the game Claire Backhouse said that title offered "unmistakable realism" - and was four times larger than its predecessor.

She said: "God of War 3 combines these new technologies with the much loved gameplay elements from the previous games - Puzzle solving, brutal combat and epic set-piece battles.

"It also benefits from a deep and involving storyline, steeped in Greek Mythology. This is what makes God of War 3 unique and sets it apart from other next gen titles."

She added: "I think if you are over 18 and want an amazing single player experience this year then God of War 3 is a must have."

Sony didn't actually say that, CVG. Those were your words from the interview.

Please don't take the bait, people.

Good effort, but I fear it will be in vain.

haha I know I just read the interview and cvg are using their own "set apart" and "must have" quotes to flame a battle! way too look foolish!

CVG is it getting that bad????????

As much as i loved the previous 2 god of war games. I'm finding it hard to get excited for this. At the moment i'm more hyped about Mass Effect 2 Bioshock 2 and Heavy rain.maybe come the end of march i'll be more up for it. But thats when FInal fantasy XIII is coming out. Sony really have picked an odd time to release it.

Personally it think they should push it back to april. it puzzles me how they all ran for cover from MW2 but aren't worried about an impact on sales from Final Fantasy XIII. the reason i know many more people initially bought a PS3 for before its multi platform announcement,

I'm getting Trilogy version too Smile

Can't wait!

FF is far more popular in the East. I can't see it affecting GOWIII sales in the slightest.

In fact, the more I read about FF13, the less interested I become. No towns? Just a linear path?

Pah.
Mark240473 on 8 Jan '10
can't bloody wait.
Sinthetic on 8 Jan '10
no interest, but i hope it sells well.
jazzy_p on 8 Jan '10
It sure does look purdy, but I just can’t get into hack and slash games, I just get bored really quickly and feel a little detached from what is going on onscreen, I’ll give it a go mind as I’ve never tried another one of the God of War ones, but all the others (Bayonetta et al) have been a bit dull to me…
Conkers on 8 Jan '10
can't bloody wait.

that is one hell of a trophy collection m8 lol easy en!
bunneyo on 8 Jan '10
Just like Metal Gear solid 2 was 'must have'? Ill be ok thanks.

I got Bayonetta today on 360, Mass effect 2 at the end of the month. And GT5 and God of war 3 in March along with Alan Wake. 2010 is going to be the best year in gaming ever, no contest.
Nick33 on 8 Jan '10
I purchased god of war HD from eBay and recieved a demo code for god of war 3. Oh my f**king god!!! It was unbelievable with graphics that rival uncharted 2, in some cases better. The amount of things going on from the amount demon soldiers, lighting, particles and depth of field. Then the climax of the demo in which you fly up beside this gigantic chain and dodge oncoming fireballs and rubble...immense. But the end of the demo is where it hints that the next level of action and detail that is to come. It will be great (not as good as last guardian though...shadow of the collossus HD please).

Bayonetta is genius btw...

Pah.

strangly enough FF runs 2nd in the most popular RPG in the east first being Dragon Quest.

Not detracting from GOW3 being a great game. There are far more final fantasy fans out there than god of war ones and if the hype is to be believed 13 is looking to be a fantastic return to form.

Having played the Dante's Inferno demo I know which one of the two I'll be buying... and this isn't it!

Erm, they did say that. They didn't release it as a press release, but they did say it. Obviously you have to be over 18 as I imagine something this violent will have an 18 cert!

To be honest, with the crap that MS were coming out about Reach being the biggest game of 2010 (it may be) and other stuff Sony/MS have said in the past, saying a game is 'must have' is pretty tame!

And if you like the crazy hack em ups or whatever they get called these days, it probably is must have. It doesn't make me wish I had a PS3, like uncharted, but if I had a PS3 I'd be getting it, no question!
ricflair on 8 Jan '10
But just to add, no game will ever be 'must have' to everyone! We can take these things to literally at times!
ricflair on 8 Jan '10

I'll be buying both. If GoW 3 plays as well as DI then it will be magnificent for me, as I love Greek Mythology.

The Dante's Inferno demo was fantastic though and propelled it from a maybe purchase to a "Gots to have it" game! Very Happy
Black Mantis on 8 Jan '10
Yeah, I'll no doubt get GOW3 but I'm more excited for Dantes Inferno. After GOW 1, 2, and Olympus I'm struggling to see how this is gonna up ante, if at all.

Don't get me the wrong, I played the demo and it looks very nice, its incredibly brutal (the cyclops eyeball ripping was particularly nasty) and its still fun to play, but it is still just GOW that I played years ago.

There's a big enough fanbase to be happy with that, after all if its not broke why fix it, but I'm looking for something more interesting and the religious imagery and general wrongness that Dantes seems to be loaded with seems more interesting at this point to me.
khr0nik on 8 Jan '10
Dante's Inferno will be a poor man's GOWIII.

There, I said it.

Bring it on, bitches.

Laughing

I knew it was gonna be said and I half suspected it would be you, you swine! Razz

I know, I know, I know, it flat out rips off 90% of what GOW is, but you never know! At some point in the game it might bring something new to the table!

Either that or it will be a substandard clone, we'll have to wait and see.

And yes Mark, I'm gonna be getting the GOW Collection soon, it does need to be done.
khr0nik on 8 Jan '10
Never owned a God Of War game, but played the first one. Might buy the big bundle when the price comes down, i wouldn't mind having them and also getting the Roadrunner EP that comes with Razz

@sony, hype isnt actually a good thing. surprise is
i-am-from-space on 8 Jan '10
Didn't I hear them saying it was a game only possible on the PS3 days ago? Sony are probably some of the worst bunch of business folk, overselling a product before its release. It'll bite them more than their pre-console promotions someday.
Desaima on 8 Jan '10
i havent played the first 2, will that matter?
Tobal on 9 Jan '10

Not really, Kratos rips lots of peoples heads off. Gains the powers of a god, does odd jobs for some gods that involve ripping more peoples heads off.

Now your up to date with the storyline!

Can't wait for this, got the GOW HD Collection and its bloody amazing!
