Microsoft looks to be hard at work on a new Halo project if the opening of over 20 jobs at 343 Industries is anything to go by (which it is).
The positions on offer include spots for software developers, artists and producers.
"Do you love Halo? Do you want to be part of the creation of a new game in the Halo universe? Are you passionate about the tools and infrastructure necessary to make great games?
"The MGS Halo studio, 343 Industries, is looking for a talented, experienced development lead to help create the next generation of Halo tools and technical infrastructure," reads one listing. "We are gathering an incredible team to help drive the future of Halo."
Some listings are for Natal, but it's not clear if they have anything to do with the Halo franchise - let's hope not.
This is one series that is going to be flogged to death.
Since the first Halo in 2001 there have been more retail releases of CoD, Mario, Need For Speed, even Gran Turismo has had more games available to buy (that's not even mentioning the likes of FIFA, Tiger Woods etc.).
In the scheme of things, Halo is fairly low down on the milking list.

Completely agree with you there mate. Considering it stays at the the top of the charts after 3 years speaks volumes. Even though I am not into halo, I think more titles would be justified and stupid not to do so. My first impression when I saw this however was it will probably be a halo wars style game. Don't think it would be another FPS so soon. Could be wrong.
Haha people who think Halo is being milked have no idea what they are talking about. Every Halo game released has been of AAA quality (Halo Wars could be argued to be AA, still great though) so i don't know why you kids whine. Its not as if MS is churning out release after release with crappy results. If the game doesn't suit you, then fair enough. Go f**k off back to counter strike or whatever it is you play.
Oh and CVG, MS is working on a Halo game!? No Way! Who would have thought ...
Top of which charts after three years? And comparing Halo to sports games is stupid. I agree with CoD and NFS being milked, but again, to say Mario is milked isn't exactly right. If we think main games, Mario's harldy been milked. But yes, using him in sports games etc can be seen as that, but that's the widespread appeal of the character. Its not like those aforementioned CoD games that seem to come out every year and do nothing new..
Give M$hite time to fully get this one going (which it looks like they are). And Halo is only an AAA game if your standards aren't set too high. And there's what, about eight GT games including those demo version? Since Halo is already on five, its not doing too badly in terms of being milked...
oh gods spare us from more of the same crap. Do a trilogy and then leave it alone... Bring back Soul Reaver, Streets of Rage, Rocket Knight Adventures...ffs Voodoo Vince, anything but another Halo on top of Reach.

Don't give me the standards crap. Halo gets AAA from almost every major gaming journalist. It get huge sales AND critical acclaim, and thats something you fanboys CAN'T argue with....unless you want to look a c**t.

There have been 8 retail releases of GT since 2001, only 5 Halo releases. And I'm talking about real, pay-with-cash retail releases, not just the free GT:HD download or anything like that. There were plenty more before that too. The difference is that more than half of those GT releases are either rehashes of older releases or previews of releases to come - at least the Halo games are full additions to each series (with an arguable exception in ODST, but even that had it's own campaign and new multiplayer along with the old).
I've got no problem with that number of GT games, or any other game franchise for that matter - if you don't want it, don't buy it. But there's a lot of people on this site who are very ignorant when it comes to accusing MS of "milking" Halo.

How is Halo on five games? Didn’t you and other f**kwits of your ilk keep saying ODST is just an expansion? You can’t have it both ways now can you….
What about Uncharted? Is that being milked? 2 games in three years, more spinoffs rumoured, a third a certainty as soon as they can roll it out? What about Resistance, 2 full games, a PSP game and another to be announced this year. Is that also milked?
I'm not entirely sure why Halo fans get so abusive when people disagree with their opinion. Halo may not be 'milked' than any game. But something that justifies people suggesting so is that unlike any other game that I know of Halo has it's own personal section on the console's operating system! A whole section devoted to Halo. If many games, and especially ones not owned by the console maker, were given the same treatment then perhaps there might be fewer comments. Personally I think Halo has very good AI and controls, but some of the worst designs and sh*ttiest maps in a first person shooter. Each to their own.

Halo is a billion dollar franchise, does it really surprise you that Halo Waypoint exists? Im betting we'll see some form of Call of Duty waypoint in the future. And there already is things like the Rock Band store, the Guitar Hero store etc. So what you said is false, Halo isn't the only game to have its own personal section on XBL. And you cant call out Halo fans for getting defensive and leave out all the Halo haters who attack attack attack.
The only time Halo will be put to bed is when people stop buying it. There is demand for it so it would be crazy not to carrying on developing for the franchise.
On another note, I remember Frank O'Connor in his games reviewer days. That bought back memories
If a franchise gets constantly good scores and sells well, why stop making them?
I might be alone here (and I don't really care), but I also would like to see what a FPS (like Halo) would play like on Natal. If it fails, it fails but as the technology is there you may as well see what it can do.
halo games on 360 alone will match PD's entire number of games since ps1.
think about what you are saying. in the time GT5 has been in development, there will have been FOUR halo games in the same timeframe.
sounds like milking to me.
What about the prologue releases for GT4 and GT5? They were both retail. And the 3 different "concept" releases that previewed stuff that eventually ended up in GT4? GT PSP? These weren't mearly track/car packs, they were full games.

I want to see what they could do with Natal, but less of the grenade throwing and using your finger to point. Head tracking is where it's at for psuedo-3D.
The only people that say Halo is being milked are the non Halo Fans, in the grand scheme of things what does this achieve? Absolutley nothing, hee haw!
If you feel that Halo is being milked then you have no idea what the term means, get over yourselves and stop sounding so petty and predictable.
Halo bashing isnt cool anymore, the Game that should get it now is The Unchartered series, 2 in two years, comics, movies and more Games to come, go on Halo haters (Sony Fans), go vent your pent up anger and frustration in that direction .

they are "full games" when it suits, "demos" otherwise.
the work came from early builds. doesnt could as a "GT". counts as a work in progress.

Just like how ODST is a "full game" when it suits and "just an addon" otherwise?
And they're a work in progress that they have the audacity charge for, with a massive "Gran Turismo" logo on the front of the box. Sounds like milking to me.
I'm not entirely sure why Halo fans get so abusive when people disagree with their opinion.
Its becauzse they're a bunch of fu**ing retards. That's why they resort to name calling etc. Xbox Live is full of w****rs. M$ are a c**ky, yet stupid (when it comes to gaming) company. And the majority of their followers can't construct mature posts and get all p**sy with other people.
Conkers, I may or may not have said ODST was an expansion but it was still being classed as part of the main series and sold at full price. And at least the Uncharted games are good
gazza_be, CoD gets high rating each year, so your point is what exactly? The way I see it, no one has the balls to review Halo and say "average" or "nothing new" cos its most likely M$ will cry about it and send the boys round
I've owned all Halo games, played them to death, raped the losers online and took their insults and then came to the conclusion Halo is not that good
Bungie only make a Halo game every 3 years, Halo 2001, Halo 2 2004, Halo 3 2007, Halo Reach 2010. With most developers aiming for a 2 year cycle, (COD by each developer, Gears, Uncharted, Resistance, Fable, etc) Halo is one of the least milked franchises at the moment, just it's been going for a while now. Though with 343 and MS no doubt Halo will get milked soon, but it hasn't happened yet.

theres a GT logo on the box... and its GT in the box. imagine that. fucking toolbag. are they gonna ship blank covers?
and i never said ODST was an addon, the dev did. then changed their mind and jacked it up to full price after saying it would be half price...
Oh yeah, and like in this typical day and age, I'll have to come out and say "I'm not a Sony fan!". I may be a fan of Nintendo games, but I don't make posts due to some sort of blinded loyalty or something. I've owned a lot of console in my time and M$ games are not compelling enough for me to keep their machines.
And you won't see me taking offense at Nintendo bashing. I actually get incensed from retarded posts that sometimes it makes me want to post. You can call Mario or Zelda crap, that won't have me baying for your blood

Hang on...you said they don't count as a GT (well, actually you said doesn't "could" - but I assume "count" was what you were after), now you're saying it's GT in the box. Which is it, k**bcheese?

Wow. Two Uncharted games in two years? That's impressive!* Looking forward to Uncharted 3 this year!
*Or completely wrong.
Still, at least the Uncharted games are getting better, eh?
Won't Halo Reach be the 4th Halo game for the 360?
the liberty city episodes dont count as a full game. but that retails at a reduced price (like prologue)... complete with GTA logo.
And getting people to pay for games that are "works in progress" is a worse example of "milking" than the consistent release of standalone games? Right.
the liberty city episodes dont count as a full game. but that retails at a reduced price (like prologue)... complete with GTA logo.
What's the argument?
Even if you include GTrologue, the PS3 has seen the release of just one GT game.
There are 3 Halo games for 360.
Milk.
That's right, if you conveniently ignore the fact that there were shitloads of various prologues and concept releases prior to the PS3. And GTSP.
I'm not saying that it's wrong to do that. Fans will lap it up and love it, no doubt. But before people start accusing MS of milking Halo, they should have a look at what's really being milked.

That's quite a lot.
I was taking the Michael, badly .
There arent many Franchises that could garner this kind of repsonse in a thread, Halo is one of them Games. Some people just like to hate on it, I dont know why?

Exactly, I can't understand why Halo always seems to get picked out for being milked round here. Like you say there's been far more sequels to other games like COD than there has been for Halo. I'm not a huge Halo fan, but the criticism it gets is unfair.
I think it's the over-exposure which quite frankly has made me sick of the franchise - remember I used to adore Halo before I saw the light!
The first game was excellent but the second IMO lost its way a little. It still played well but I wasn't fond of the whole Hollywoodish feel of it and the ways the aliens spoke in squeaky English dialect (?).
I much preferred the The Covenant when they were a mysterious adversary.
I'm sure the next Halo will have 50 Cent in it or something...
I don't think its a case of milking, but rather a lack of imagination on Microsoft's part, where they're content to keep making Halo games rather than look to a new project.
But why would they want to come up with a new project when Halo is still hugely popular?. Besides, they own plenty of other devs who can come up with the new franchises for them.
They are a business, and like any business they will stick with the product that is making them a lot of money. If Sony or Nintendo owned Bungie they would be doing the very same thing.
Its simple, Bungie have told M$ to p**s off and that they wana do something new, M$ don't like it cause of the success halo franchise brings to them, so technically yes the series is being milked, but im more intrested in what bungie will do next!

You know, this is what I was thinking when writing one of my posts. I'd just thought "fu** it" at that point as I couldn't be bothered going on about it anymore. They could push for another new IP but most companies don't seem to do that anymore since people are just idiots and buy the same stuff each year
halo games on 360 alone will match PD's entire number of games since ps1.

Ermmm - no, it's just that PD have taken a ridiculous amount of time to work on GT5.
Stupid comparison.
Bottom line is this: Halo is hugely popular. It sells. There is no way any company will stop producing something that makes them a lot of money - it is not about the fans, it's not about pushing boundaries (and it never is - regardless of what you may want to think), it's all about a successful series that will continue as long as people want it.
Halo = Extremely popular, critically acclaimed, commercially successful franchise, with a mythology and universe so well crafted and deep it has become a bit of a media phenomenon, branching out across many different mediums. It also pretty much laid the blueprint for FPS's when the original was released.
Despite this, and the urge there must be to cash in on such a popular title, I would say it is anything but 'milked'.
This is why I look forward so much to each new Halo title. Where I have little but mild disdain for those franchises who are now desicated husks due to over saturation (for instance CoD, Guitar Hero... hell, anything by Activision really), I always have time for Halo. Always.
And whoever it was that said the MP maps were rubbish, you sir, are an idiot.
WTF WHO GIVE A FLYING f**k IF THEY MILK IT OTHER COMPANIES MILK THERE GAMES FIFA ANYONE? THERE WILL 2 FIFAS OUT THIS YEAR AND THAT DOESNT GET A MENTION? JUST MORE HALO GOODNESS IF YOU CANT ACCEPT THAT GO HUMP YOUR PLAYSTATION AND YOU JUST KNOW SONY WILL MILK UNCHARTED AND KILLZONE
Well it is one of if not THE biggest game franchise Microsofts has, its like Mario to Nintendo, it'll will never die as long as MS are in the video-game industry and Halo is still popular.
I just find it so baffling why Halo is picked out for all this impotent rage.
It's a game, and a critically lauded one at that. I have enjoyed all of the games to an extent and I still go back to the third from time to time.
There's no great conspiracy; to a lot of people, including videogame journalists it is a very good series.
I understand that people like and dislike stuff but there is so much vitriol for Halo it's unbelievable. Did you vocal halo haters get this p**sed off about the second gulf war?
Any game that has had a sequel could qualify as a milked series. So I suppose some of you tools would be happy for every game series to only have 1 game in it, christ we'd still be in the NES era if games were like this.
halo games on 360 alone will match PD's entire number of games since ps1.

GTA still sells - much more than halo.
dont see them floggin it to death.
they take a break so they dont burn it out and keep it fresh.
I really wish svd_grasshopper would crawl back under the rock he came from, I've never known such a petty, narrow minded moronic penis in my whole life. Halo is a powerful cinematic brand that could be applied to pretty much any genre, GT is just cars hmmmm, I thought Prologue was rubbish and won't be buying the full game. Halo is one of the largest franchises in the world and it speaks volumes that Halo 3 was selling more copies a month 2 years on than Killzone 2...sorry yawnzone 2 was in its first 6 months, those kinds of sales figures only come from a quality product...FACT.
