BioWare working on secret action game

Another online CV leaks news of unannounced project
The world of online CVs has done it again. This time it's dropped word that BioWare is working on an "unannounced multiplatform action title," which might even include PS3. You never know...

Rob Bartel's LinkedIn profile inludes an entry which reads, "Principal Designer, Lead Multiplayer Designer - Unannounced multiplatform action title at BioWare EA" (thanks Blues).

It probaly won't say that for long but at least now we know. Right then, onto the fun part, what do you wish, hope, prey it could be? The birth of a KOTOR action-RPG?

According to Mass Effect 2 producer Adrien Cho, the company reckons the upcoming sci-fi sequel will be "the best game in the history of BioWare." This unannounced game had better be good then.

While I have yet to play any BioWare game that I would deem to be "poor" or "bad", I do hope that this unannounced game is not "Jade Empire 2". Not unless they widen the scope and size of the game, provide more background and a much improved combat system. Even then I was never entirely convinced by the setting although I did like some of the character interactions - still, even these are not BioWare's best, IMO.

Some might question whether "Jade Empire" was an action game since it does contain RPG elements, yet I would argue that it is at the very least a strong mixture of action (see: combat features) mixed with some basic RPG elements. Similar to "Mass Effect" though the latter game does it much better, again IMO.

Looking forward to the eventual reveal!

I think Bioware have created an interesting and versatile universe in the Mass Effect series. I see no reason why this can't be their 'Star Wars' so to speak. It certainly has the potential to spawn many games, and as the popularity of Halo has shown it could also move into other genres.

I would love to see Bioware make a first person shooter in the Mass Effect universe. I see no reason why it couldn't retain the story side, conversation mechanics and character building that has made Mass Effect so good. With better designed maps, change of view, deletion of the stop-start 'magical' side to the ME series I can't see how we wouldn't end up with a great game.

In terms of combat Bioware have shown some of the best AI at times. Their grasp of simple concepts such as self-preservation, teamwork, suppressive fire is far superior than the AI seen in most first person shooters. As insulting to other developers as this may sound, Bioware seem like one of the more intelligent game makers out there.

Any developer, it seems, can make a shooter. Most do and more often than not create some pretty average games. I imagine Bioware stand as good a chance as any of actually creating a decent first person shooter and with the addition of their RPG skills I think they stand as good a chance of success too.

Jade Empire ?

Jade Empire ?

I hope so, that game was beautiful and I can only imagine what Bioware could do with that universe with today's technology. I suggest they cease all work on Dragon's Age and concentrate on JE!

Read my first post. "Jade Empire" is probably my least favourite game from "BioWare". There were times where it had me by the neck and then...I dunno. It would seem to fizzle. It needed more depth to character development, skills and gear, as well as more finely tuned controls. Still, I'm confident BioWare could out-do their previous "Jade Empire" effort at present time.

'Jade Empire' was by no means a poor game but IMO it wasn't the best Bioware has produced. It was too linear for an RPG.

However you can't deny the plot twist is definately up there as one of the best. Its hinted throughout the game but I never paid attention to it until it came back to bite our ass at the end.

If it is JE2 I would definately think about buying it.

If its KOTOR 3 I would buy it without question.

Lol sad I know, but i'm still holding out hope that KOTOR 3 will be made somewhere down the line.

I did read it, which is why I had to counter! Just in case Dr Ray Muzkya of Bioware hangs around the CVG forums. Smile
