Is there something you would love to be learn ?

Try and be specific in your suggestions as a good tutorial is short and to the point. Something like "how do i make a song in acid" is far too vague whereas "how to use the volume / fx curve (thing) in acid" is easier to cover

how about an idiots guide section...it's important not to alienate the newbies to music making by using getting too technical.. I found this really hard when I first started..

i think that most tutorials should be "an idiots guide" as when your struggling with something thats just how you feel :-)
This is why i mentioned tutorials should be specific, to the point and easy to follow.
Its better to split things into bitesize chunks |

my reply will be about FL studio,
well, I have made 1 tutorial on how to use FL studio...
but that tutorial is in Latvian language..
And that tutorial would be problematic to translate..
In tutorials about FL studio there should be detalized information on how to use specific plugins & stuff, becouse, there is already ''help'' in FL studio, there are terms which some people might not understand...
+ there should be videos, on how to use those plugins..
Youtube is filled with such videos...
Videos even help those, who doesn't understand english good...
if there will be made tutorial, then tutorial name should be ''detalized information on how to use FL studio''

Techn1c brings up a good point. I think it'd be nice if we could collaborate on making- "Multi-language tutorials".
Possibly having it be dubbed in various languages (preferred),
or have some subtitles for it.
Now, I'm going to recommend that we create a list for specific programs (and maybe even some hardware stuff, from those who are really into playing instruments, like the Guitar or Sax, etc).
Under the 'Tutorials' section break it down to each of these things and that's where you can place the various tips and things.
And I suppose there could even be a 'Links' area in each of these for external places where things can be picked up.

Ooh, I also think there could be something like a 'Set-up' section (or 'miscellaneous') to house the different cabling techniques people employ.
And... And... I'm tapped. Wait... No! Have a section for 'Making Loops & Samples'. Dunno if this'd be on it's own or within the other instruments/programs sections.

Honestly I would like to see a lot...but i think we should go more down south and honor Dj Screw...and have a tutorial showing how to make Chopped and Screwed tracks for real...

I usually just drop voc's in tune by 7 steps and then go to town on the wave's... but i don't know what the hell I am doing when I chop and screw (and yes, i chop and screw.)

hey shan, i have been obsessed about mastering for about 2 years, and i have done a lot of study into the dynamics (pun intended? ok that was a dumb pun), equipment, and techniques.
I want to add, that I am NO master of mastering, but something inside me cringes when i see a looperman song normalized to -6dbs....
I would be happy to write up a .pdf or just some html, to show others what i have learned...
(although i will have to contact some people that have taught me to make sure that I can quote them, plus getting permission from websites... ughhhh... hmmn... screw that maybe?... but websites too)
ahem...
I do plan to write this as plainly as possible, with a key point of MASTERING and then divided into sub-chapters about
DYNAMICS,
EQUALIZATION,
REVERB DO'S AND I DON'T RECOMMENDS,
STEREO PANNING AND IMAGING,
HARMONICS,
LOUDNESS (my biggest issue with a lot of mixes, you could mess up everything, but if it is clipping it pisses me off, and if it is too quiet it pisses me off),
and, finally, DITHER/BIT RATE/ENCODING.
probably using audacity or any other of the free GNU licensed programs out there, and i am already getting a headache thinking about using them... but oh well...(i use soundforge personally)
Of course, I want to make this as simple and understandable as possible, explaining the jargon (like wtf are HARMONICS?!?) and completely newbie friendly.
I may post something in the forums to see who wants to put together their two cents and create an organized idealization of whatever the hell "mastering" is.
Personally, I have read all the examples and descriptions of mastering, and they all make sense, just google "music mastering".. but to me, mastering is when your song sounds the best it can be, after the recording process.
If you mix your song and master it all in one take.. I kinda cringe.... that is a totally acceptable way of mastering, but in my opinion, I would use two different DAWs/Programs. Even if you decide on using your DAW, that just exported the very same song.. Try AT least two different programs.. the reason being is that your song changes after it is encoded, it finally becomes the little beauty or beast that it should be, AFTER it is encoded... Before exporting your song, you still have synths and loops, or .wavs clogging up your RAM, and I promise you will not get the best results you deserve. A fresh package of fully mixed music, BEFORE mastering is key.

it would be something like that, but organized, and more factual... i hope.

I'm gonna go one further and say that 'Mastering' is a problem for everyone, novice & master alike. Coz it doesn't matter how good you've gotten- If the equipment you're dealing with stinks then it's a real challenge to get the stuff to sound good & proper.
Think of it like phones versus two tin cans on a string.
We all could really use some sound advice on this one (oh look, a pun, haha). Good call! Lates.

I have a suggestion I would like to request.
but first I need to say something about tutorials.
Many people on this site will give a tutorial for the exact same topic one requests. how can we sort through these tutorials given.
which tutorials are the best to use and which ones work.
lets say I do want a mastering tutorial and 8 people come up with one..Im not gonna go through 8 different tutorials on a test run to see which is best. using that as an example.
well most likely im gonna go with a tutorial from someone I know better on the site than someone i never heard of.
I would like to see a tutorial on rather mixing than anything..how to properly seperate each idividual instruments track from one another.. I know panning is involved but need more info. but i dont want to have to sith through thousands of tuts either |

Tutorial section;
-- Format (vid, aud, text)

------- Title space (eg, DVs Stereophonic technique)

...
And I'm sure other things could be added to it. Like
*Date added
*Amount of feedback (reviews or responses)
*Quality (comprehensive and functional)
...
It could also add a new bracket to someone's profile stats (along with something else maybe).
Oh, and I'm also thinkin that it could be divided down into what kind of tutorial it is (format-wise). Like...
*Video tutorial
*Audio tutorial
*Text-only tutorial
(lemme go add that above)
...

I'd like to see some piano exercises and tutorials on here. Im struggling always with:
1. finding a chord that suits what im doing
2. finding an alternate chord(that isn't generic) that goes with the previous chord.
3. playing in live time as apposed to multitracking it.
I guess chord progression would have to be one i'd like to see firstly i guess. |

how about vst's and audio pluging for beginner's tutorial
1.which are the best
2.how to set up
3.and describe all their different types. like difference between drums,synths, etc.
i found this hard to understand at first and still sketchy on it so by all means any extra help is useful.

I will do one on tension and release. How to get that WOW factor in to your solos/playing. I don't know if people would be interested in this subject. If you are leave a comment here. I feel if there is support for this, it would have to be a video feature in maybe 3 parts. Let me know!

I'm definatly interested in that tutorial Slap. And some additional info on the range of the instruments would be more than usefull so we won't have to play a sax patch in reason and then have people asking "is that a flute?". It would be good, well atleast i'm interested, to know how high or how low can a specific instrument go in order to keep that natural sound, something like a graph based around middle C. And to be more specific about what instruments i'm interested i'm gonna say horns, sax, flute, trombones...i always push 'em to high or bring them to low. Ok that's all i can't think for now but if something pops up i'll let you know.

Orchestration too. Ranges of instrument (like the one Mahloo wants), playing techniques, etc... |

my rudimentary problem/ question is, how can I get my monitors/phones to produce the sounds the way they would be heard in a car or through Windows media player. It's discouraging as a beginner to Burn one MP3 after another, only to find volume levels, pans or effects are overdone. also, how to analyze and/or minimize existing reverb on loops and tracks, to get an ambient match. |

but, shan, i was thinking that an effective wiki might be a good idea?
that way, you could have base facts, and then under it, discussions, recommendations, opinions and such?

I made a tutorial for reason4.0 with print screen and paint ,
I took a color pencil and marked specific points and gave a very simple explanation ,its about 5 pages , if anyone is intrested
offcourse.
