download audacity and find an instrumental of the track u want to use the vocals for and the actual track itself and load them both into audacity...then select the whole of the instrumental file and reverse the sound on the full track and voila...u have ur acapella..it wil leave some sound remaining but u can filter most of thos out.. |

Yep, once again,
Kindly disregard my 2 posts above, upon further inspection Voicetrap is a dino-gram from. '98. Looks like it too, think Atari styly!

The very best method of vocal isolation has already been suggested which is called Phase Inversion. Actually, Phase Inversion can be used for many different things not only for vocals. However, the "gotcha" with Phase Inversion is that it requires that you have at least 1 of the sources you want to remove.
If you want the vocal you will need the music track and if you want the music track, you will need the vocal. Most artists don't publish either of the two so many times you won't be able to phase invert.
I checked out the suggestion by Dungbeatl and that tool looks pretty promising in the case where you only have the complete mix. It offers both isolation of the music track or isolation of the vocal track.

Check the sample mp3s on the site and it gives you a good idea on what it can do. Its a tough thing to do this kind of isolation when you have only 1 mix so I'm pretty impressed with the tool.
I gave it a spin using the VST version with a random track from here and got an "OK" result, the only problem is that the demo only allows you to modify 2 parameter so I wasn't able to test it to its full capability. With the 2 parameters it did a fairly ok job, it just didn't sound as crisp as the demo mp3s on the site.
A good tool to try. |

I think it's impossible. The most advanced programs could not do it in satisfactory level. To do it perfectly you must have the vocals in a separate track. |
