Greenpeace report slams Nintendo... again

Big N the least eco-friendly electronics maker, with Microsoft not too far behind
Nintendo is still the least eco-friendly electronics maker, according to Greenpeace.

While it's great at making multimillion selling consoles and games, the platform holder's not so hot when it comes to manufacturing practices, waste management or the use of harmful chemicals.

Greenpeace's latest Guide to Greener Electronics report scores Nintendo a pitiful 1.4 out of 10 for its policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change, the lowest of the 18 firms to make the list.

Microsoft wasn't far behind in 17th place with a score of 2.4 out of ten, losing most points on the chemicals criteria.

Sony, on other hand, was seventh with 5.1 out of ten, and was praised for its successful efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 per cent between 2000 and 2008.

iPhone maker Apple took fifth place with a score of 5.1, while Nokia phone maker Nokia was first with 7.3.

"It's time for a little less conversation and a lot more action on removing toxic chemicals," said Greenpeace's Casey Harrell in a statement. "Apple is leading and HP is playing catch up, but the lack of action from other companies is ensuring that customers and the environment are still losing out."

Is this like the last two times where Greenpeace gave Nintendo low marks because they basically said no comment to practically everything...
milky_joe on 8 Jan '10
It's because Nintendo don't give them practically any data. LOL

Greenpeace is a joke these days. They've been hijacked by the bankers & politicians & all they seem to concentrate on now is the fraudulent CO2/global warming scam, rather than the real environmental issues such as the cutting down of the rainforests, state of our oceans, recycling to combat landfills et al.

I've heard so much about global warming and this other rubbish that I've literally stopped caring one way or the other.
Athrun888 on 8 Jan '10
Are you seriously suggesting you think global warming is a lie, or a joke, and not real? Unbelievable... well the good news for you is governments around the world don't care much either. Economy is the all powerful deciding factor in everything so you don't need to worry about any upset to your lifestyle. And maybe all the scientist around the world that have come to the same conclusion, based on what they believe to be evidence will eventually get bored and what? ...give and do a proper job? ...maybe they'll start campaigning to bring back CFC gases?

I really don't understand why people are afraid to be honest and admit that they don't give a f*ck about the environment or care about the consequences of what global warming is doing to the planet or future generations. There's no shame in not caring about the planet; governments and industry have had this attitude for decades. And maybe you're right. We're very likely to die of old age before anything gets too bad. And things do start going bad in our lifetime, well it's poor nations who suffer first, so why should anyone care about them? What difference does it make if we lose a few animals... there's a constant cycle of animal extinction, so that doesn't matter. Sea level rise; well maybe that's all lies, or if it is true, someone will come up with a solution. Won't they?

Too true, more people should be thinking like you and less like "Jensonjet", who obviously has no idea what "global warming" is really all about(less than 2% of Co2 is man made).

Greenpeace? what a joke, like they'll change anything. The main problem is money itself - a lot of poorer countries owe billions in debt to rich nations amd are forced to cut down the rainforests and sell it to pay the interest on these loans. There is a solution being worked on now, its called thezeitgeistmovement(dot)com I urge everyone to check it out and if you agree - join us, we are growing and need everyone on our side.
We are at a crossroad - Either technological amazing future or economic collapse crap future. We are one species, one planet, one family Peace x

It certainly is no joke, but it is a lie my friend. A government spun lie for the purpose of their monetary agendas. There is zero evidence to back-up man made global warming & the whole CO2 fairytale. Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me. Why do you think it's real? Because you were told so on the news? Google it, look up the 'hockey stick' graph that Al Gore uses to try & prove its authenticity. You'd be shocked what your governments tell you is truth just to push their own agendas. Really.

If you really think man made global warming has no financial gains for the government, then you're mistaken & obviously watch/read too many government funded news sources. CO2 taxes & cap & trade are going to be a huge money spinner for the approaching decade. Again, look it up. I guess you didn't hear about 'climategate' either. The so called "scientists all over the world" (actually a very small number, 3000 in fact & mostly consist of lords & people with PHD's in psychology & other unrelated subjects) have been caught pressurising real scientists to go along with the scam or they'll lose all funding & be completely discredited. It's a scary world & you'd be shocked at just a small glimpse at what goes on behind the curtain & the reasons behind most things. Again, I urge you to look this stuff up yourself, don't take my word for it.

A good place to start reading about "global warming" is Ian Wishart's book "Air Con", it really opened my eyes to what's been going on, and he references everything he says, so if you don't believe something you can just look it up, and check for yourself.

OLD NEWS I read about the harmful manfacturing builds a long time ago Sony were the best for low use of toxic elements in the ps3 but was the highest in electricity use this however is no longer the case if u use the slim model.Nintendo and MS just dont care as long as the money roles in maybe a tax for harmful consoles should be introduced.

a3HeadedMonkey, I would no longer entertain a dicussion with you than I would with someone religious. As you believe governments and the scientific community are lying about the environment and unbelieveable think it's a money-making scheme there is absolutely no point in discussing the matter further.

At least check what he is saying, you never know, it could be you thats wrong.
I don't know either way at the moment, but I will read up on what he says. He might be wrong, he might be right - but to discredit what he says without even looking makes a mockery of your first statment:

You won't converse with relgious people becuase they are stuck in their ways? Looks like you are too.

There's nothing green about anything to do with Humanity, so what is the point in a toothless eco-pants party nipping at one company?
