10 new countries to get XBL Video Marketplace

Microsoft preps more launchs of its video service
Microsoft has said that ten new countries are in the firing line to get Xbox Live's Video Marketplace this autumn.

Hidden at the end of a press release for the Xbox console Microsoft confirmed, "In addition to the eight countries already enjoying movies and TV shows on Xbox Live through regional partnerships with studios, networks and providers such as Sky and Canal+ Group, starting this fall ten new countries will have access to Xbox Live Video Marketplace.

"Xbox Live will deliver the convenience of instant-on 1080p video to an expanded global consumer base including Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Australia and New Zealand."

Autumn though. Still a way off.

Well that's great news if you're already paying for a Sky subscription as well as XBL in those countries!

In the Danish market there has already been a complete switch to digital channels by all TV stations - public and private. It was mandated by law some time ago, so it begs the question of whether or not the "1080p" offer from Xbox will be of particular good value for Danish Xbox 360 owners since they already get high quality TV from their existing TV signal(s)? I suppose it depends on whether the digital feed is 720p or whether it is in fact 1080i/p. Regardless, regular TV already looks much better than it used to in that country at no additional charge beyond the TV license and whatever TV service provider you use.

Not really sure where this news comes from – In Finland, we have had access to Zune Marketplace since late last year.
