"With the release of the new slimmer and lighter PS3 system combined with an exciting line-up of compelling software titles, as well as with the expansion of new content and services on PlayStation Network, with more than 38 million registered accounts worldwide, the PS3 platform continues to surpass its momentum every year and remains on track to further accelerate the growth of its worldwide installed base into 2010," said the company.
Sony touted titles such as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Assassin's Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Final Fantasy XIII (US and Euro releases take place on March 9) as titles that lead the sales push.
In 2010 the company says that it will "continue to deploy various measures to further expand the PS3 software line-up". This includes the release of God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Heavy Rain and ModNation Racers.
Mention was also made of Sony "vigorously" enhancing PS3's network content and services and "tapping into a wider audience through the introduction of a new Motion Controller supported with a variety of software titles as well as delivering outstanding 3D experience in homes with 3D stereoscopic games and movies".
Uncharted 2 was/is an awesome game. Out of the list in the article of forthcoming big hitters i'm only looking forward to modnation racers.
My gut feeling is that MAG won't be quite the experience people expect and that heavy rain may be a little pedestrian for my taste and the ultimate marmite game. actually it's not a game now is it according to the 'game' developer?

Modnation Racers looks superb. It could be the darkhorse of 2010 - and it isn't too far from release, either.
I wish I had your limited taste in games! I'm looking forward to nearly every game out this year!

Out of the big releases, MAG and GT 5 to a lesser extent (already have Forza 3), are the games I won't be getting this for the PS3. Heavy Rain I'm still on the fence about, although I can see myself picking it up on the cheap.
Good numbers for Sony and I'm happy to be one of the millions!
Gotta agree wit Mark,Modnation could be a darkhorse this year.Besides Brink and Rage Modnation is on the top of my list this year.As for the PS3 sales it is impressive but it will improve this year
this seems to be a poor amount ( i could be proved wrong) but this includes black friday week ( thanks giving) and this is world wide, nintendo sold 3 million units of wii in america and that was in december with out including thanks giving week. As for xbox my guess it sold a tad more than than that amount in the month of december. I await the sales numbers which i image will hit anytime soon.
As for 38 million psn accounts, i presume this includes the ps2, psp? and people with double accounts for devices

How about Modnation Racers in 3D...?
If despite some slight controller latency (60fps to 30fps) it plays just as well in 3D as 2D, could Sony be the one to clinch the kart racing scene away from Nintendo / Mario Kart?
