Mass Effect 2 is "the best game in the history of BioWare," producer Adrien Cho has boldly claimed.
Speaking in a recent CVG Mass Effect 2 interview, the BioWare man said that he's not worried about competition from the large number of quality releases landing in the next month, because he thinks the RPG sequel will "blow people out of the water".
"We're so proud of the game that I'm not worried at all," Cho said. "[BioWare boss] Ray Muzyka was talking to me about this; of all the games we've made so far this was able to encapsulate everything we've been trying to do in games and present it in such a digestible form.
"Each game we've put out has been great, each game has flaws, where as this one represents the pinnacle BioWare experience. If you're going to play one BioWare game ever in your life, this is the one to try," he boldly concluded.
According to the producer, the reason the sequel's (allegedly) turned out so well is because BioWare set out to answer all of the first game's criticisms - including loading elevators.
"We wanted to address every single thing so... I'm not going to say shut up our critics, but it'd leave no room to deny that this is an amazing game."

tbh Mass Effect 1 bored me s**tless. I admire the efforts to make the combat more real time and it's nice to have an RPG that isn't about f**king elves & goblins. However, the combat was clunky and ended up just being Gears of War-lite. Typical boring dialogue trees, meh side missions, meh driving bits (although I didn't think they were as bad as a lot of people said). Jack of all trades but master of none. And the story just failed to grip me.
I can not wait for this fecking game!!! the 1st one was an incredible game that offered so much on so many levels & everything was beautifully designed & so well thought out, bring on ME2!

Seriously though. I could do with playing the first one... actually, I have never played a Bioware game in my life... aah, actually, Jade Empire for a little bit. I was too busy to carry it on though and it got forgotten.
I've no doubt this is Bioware's best ever game, as I'm pretty sure it'll instantly be one of the best third-person/RPG type games ever. I didn't have any complaints about the original other than wanting a first-person option. The story, the design and the characters were either as interesting as videogames get. And apart from the male version of Sheppard the voice acting was absolutely top-notch. A wonderful game. Shame the sequel's not allowing us to bring our original characters over as we all expected (with equipment, skills, money, etc), but apart from that I have no doubts about the quality of the new one. Mass Effect should be as popular as Modern Warfare. I believe a first-person view would actually bring onboard a few more fans.

I thought the original mass effect had a great story. All the info detail that went into the various alien races etc was fantastic. The music was superb as well, possibly one of the best soundtracks of the last 10 years(unless you hate retro synth music).
When someone spouts out comments like 'it'll be our best game ever', they have to back it up. I think we know it's going to be a classic and very highly rated i reckon on places like metacritic(94% metacritic score i'm guessing at).

ME1 was an outstanding piece of gaming, even if ME2 is "only" more of the same, it will be outstanding, however, from the hype, it seems it will be a bit more than that, they'd really have to pull something crappy out of the bag for it not to be a contender for GOTY 2010.
My only worry is that I am unlikely to finish DA before ME2 comes out, which means I won't get back to Borderlands which means, blah blah, so, so many games, so, so little time

I've got the same problem in regards to DA, also have Ratchet & Clank and Resistance to complete as well. I did finish the first Uncharted last night, so that's one down, three to go!

Still, this is the game I've placed above all others to pick up this year to date and in just 24 days (maybe less if one of the local stores slips up and releases a day or two early,) I shall be picking up the Collector's Edition of this highly anticipated beauty!

First of all: @ highlighted comment.
Second of all: BioWare is phenomenal at crafting story driven games. They are, IMO, second to none and I love their work because of the focus, dedication and skill they bring to the table. Their games are not always the best looking yet neither are they horrendous, so you end up with fantastic story telling and game immersion coupled with nice looks. It's a win-win situation in my book.
Do yourself a favour and try "Dragon Age: Origins" (preferably the PC version). The same goes for "Mass Effect" (again, preferably the PC version but watch out for the version that comes with limited activations and SecuROM that installs to your HDD; I have read rumors about a version that stays on the disk which is fine - a la "Dragon Age" - but this may just be the Steam version which is just another form of DRM). "Baldur's Gate II" is a masterpiece in game play terms although the UI and graphics have been hard hit by the passage of time. There is apparently a fan community mod that helps update this but I have not tried it for myself. "Jade Empire" was a decent effort yet far from BioWare's best, IMO.
what struck me about the first game was that most of the hype surounding the intial release was bulls**t. all this "needle in a heystack dosnt cover it" advertising was so misleading its untrue. Im not even convinced that mass effect is an rpg, sure its got level up and a monetary system, but in my eyes an rpg reprsents gameplay ofmore like 20 hours not 6 hours, (which is how long it took to clock). but all this aside it was a very fun game, but extreemly flawed. I really hope that tweaking the battle system and making faster elevators isnt all they have done because it will p**s me off no end

Aye, as of yesterday I have initiated a self-imposed moratorium on the purchase of new and old games (short of a smashing good deal,) since I have so many games that I haven't played yet between my PC and Xbox 360 - many of them have only had the wrapper removed. "Mass Effect 2" is the exception and despite wanting to pick up "Darksiders", "Dante's Inferno", "Splinter Cell: Conviction", "Bayonetta", "FF XII", "Alan Wake", etc., they will have to wait until the gaming library has been played through.

That is certainly one way to play a game yet to me it seems to defeat the purpose of playing a game, especially a game designed the way "ME 1" was.

Exactly, if you ploughed through it in 6 hours then I'm not surprised that you think it's flawed, as you probably missed about 70% of what the game has to offer. As KFD says, rpg's are about exploring and finding side missions secret areas etc. Take Oblivion for example, it's probably possible to finish that in around 6 hours(under 10 anyway) if you just stick to the main story and ignore everything else, however if you do you would be missing out on 100+ hours of gaming bliss.

Well that's bull, it's impossible to clock Mass Effect in six hours. Doing the Citadel with just the main points to actually get you into space to start with takes well over an hour. My first 2 runthroughs of the game racked up over 65 hours....
So i think you're slightly exaggerating with the six hours comment.
I think it's fair to say Mass Effect just isn't for you. We all hope to enjoy the games we play but some just don't suit us. Fans of Mass Effect are as enthusiastic as gamers get and for good reason in my eyes. I don't think you can choose which games you like, it just happens.
Incidentally I've played through the game completing all the main quests, mini missions and explored all the planets, had all the conversations I could and found everything there is to find, several times now, and each character takes approximately 35 hours. But I'm not suggesting you attempt to play any more. Accept that it's just not the game for you and move on.
Seriously I cannot believe there are Mass Effect haters if they've actually played the game.
The only reasons not to like it are that a) you don't like RPGs or any "deep" game b) you bought it thinking it was a shooter like GOW or c) you let small details like the lifts, random planets and Mako bits overshadow the major, major character-based, richly-plotted, detailed and fleshed out main plot and intriguing sidequests.
It is patently impossibly to complete a playthrough on EASY even just pursuing the main quest while skipping through every single line of dialogue. I should know, I've played it through on Easy twice purely to get the "ally" and biotic achievements.
For starters even if you thought the dialogue was a chore (and if that's the case don't even bother with an RPG) you'd miss what you were supposed to be doing and where. I knew exactly what I was doing and where I needed to go and I skipped through much of the chatter but the mechanics of combat, the toing and froing between planets would eat up half that time by themselves.
Even Fable 2 takes about 12 hours if you just stick to the main plot and in my opinion that's a whole lot more shallow than ME1 if you ignore any diversions.
