Over ten million unique users have played Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live, Infinity Ward's semi-official blog claims. But not a lot of you stuck it out to complete the final Airplane level on the hardest difficulty level. Lord knows we tried though...
"As of Jan. 3rd we hit 10,006,606 unique users who have ever played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Xbox 360 and have connected to Xbox Live at least once after playing," says community man Fourzerotwo.
"That number got us curious as to how many of those 10 Million+users finished the F.N.G. mission, or beat Airplane on Veteran (among other things)."
Incredible stats follow:
"71.1%, or 7,111,508 people have completed F.N.G. That's more than the entire population of Hong Kong (which is 7 Million).
68.8%, or 6,886,509 people have completed Cargo Ship. This is the same number of adults in the US who were morbidly obese in 2005.
46.5%, or 5,654,643 people have beaten the game on any difficulty. This is more than the current population of Finland!
2.8%, or 283,632 people have completed Airplane on Veteran difficulty. The population of Stockton, CA is 280,000. "
Cool. I love Call of Duty 4, and it's probably my favourite online game... EVAR!!
I managed to get 1000/1000 during the summer. The Mile High Club achievement took me something like 30 attempts on Veteran difficulty, but man did it feel good when I finally did it.
no wonder, that plane levels murder on veteran. i only manage to survive for about 5 seconds if i go for it and there's not enough time to take it easy. HARDEST LEVEL EVER!(not counting the first level of R-Type on the C64)
Ive completed mile high club on veteran, it may have taken over 2 hours, sweat, blood, tears and mega stress but its the most rewarding achievement ive ever earnt. The sheer feeling of ecstasy when i FINALLY completed it is simply unrivalled in the gaming world.

veteran on CoD is just FAKE. makes you just wanna switch off after repeated deaths.
unless the enemies are telepathic, sense in advance when your gonna rise up, shoot off a few rounds which convieniently travel directly towards your noggin and hit you within an instant of breaking cover... s**te, fake system. i.e. the AI isnt good enough - has to cheat, the sense of realism is absolutely NIL.
thats why people never finshed it. feels like your battling an infallible system not real people. its no fun to play against cheater in multiplayer is it? its the same here!
veteran difficulty is BRAIN DAMAGE!!! has all the fun drained out of it.
I will do Mile High Club someday; It's the only achievement I still need. I did manage to get practically right to the end but then one more guy came round the corner and shot me, otherwise I would of done it

Very true.

Yep, completely agree. Easily one of the highlights of my gaming life.
I actualy reached that guy at the end 3 times. First time I was so buzzing off the adrenaline I messed up the shot & hit the hostage. Almost cost me a pad that. The 2nd time I took too long lining up the shot as I didnt want to make the same mistake & ran out of time. But the 3rd time I finaly did it. Best feeling ever to top off one of the best games ever.

I managed to kill him the first time I got to him. I had the bottom part down really well, it was always when I reached the top of the stairs it started getting ugly. That swine of a bloke in the alcove near the end got me when I thought I was close, nearly chucked my pad then.
But yeah, on the run I did do it, the bottom part was nice and clean, the top part just consisted of random flashbangs and hip-firing like a bastard.
I didn't like how enemies only disappeared when you crossed an invisible line. But there are quite a few levels which are a lot of fun on Veteran - the extra challenge made them tense and satisfying.
I also shot my bolt too early and killed the hostage, I think I may have cried silent tears of rage. I was happy enough to do complete the game on veteran, but that level is still there, unfinished, like a monkey on my back, taunting me with it’s cruel jibes.

I agree too. It's weird isn't it. Who would have thought that Call of Duty 4 would provide one of the most satisfying moments in gaming. I've been playing games for over 20 years and it's definitely right up there. I think it took me about 2 hours too. It was about 3 in the morning and I said to myself, just one more go and I did it.

Yeah it was one of those achievements where when it got hold of you, it just wouldn't let you go. Probably took me around the 2 hour mark aswell. It reminded me of doing 007 mode on Goldeneye back in the day on the N64.
I completed the game on normal when I borrowed it off of a mate, I've only just bought a cheap copy 2 days a go and am half way through on Veteran. It must say something as there are very few games that I play through twice on different difficulties...
Here's hoping I get to the end!! Let's all make it 3%!!
I'm shocked that so few people have completed the game! I'm self-professed to be cr*p at it online, but still fare better than most! Maybe they need to play the solo experience!

One day monkey, one day.
lmao! Ahhh! Priceless! You, sir, had me laughing out loud in my computer office chair. Thanks!
CoD4 on the PC was for me such an engrossing experience that I felt genuine pangs of sorrow at the end fight on the bridge while finding the camaraderie forged under live fire breathtakingly beautiful. I actually felt a bit muted and morose the following day at work after completing the game and it choked off any desire to go back to the WWII theater after the modern warfare experience. Roll on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Infinity Ward!
Ah teh satifaction of Veteran, makes you feel immortal for a day don't it
Even after the great game rush of '08, COD4 online is still in the disk tray more then anything else.
Stick at the mile high club achievement, my girlfriend was ashamed to be with me with my whooping and hollering and air punching, but it was so worth it... shame the people round for dinner weren't of the same opinion.
I completed CoD1, CoDuo and CoD2 on Veteran, after CoD2 I swore never again! The AI is blatantly hacking! It's a real grind, and I hate grinding, I get that in my day job.
